There are much better ones out there and I am sure others will jump in also Do a search and I am sure you will find out much more that you needed to know.
Hugbare Posted October 27, 2007 #3 Posted October 27, 2007 I gave up on both years ago after one of the folks cut them both in half .. VERY THIN !!! I now use Super Tech ST7317 from Wally World ... Far Superior to both of them and at $2.50 a pop, not a bad price ...

Fram makes the worst filters on the market. Cardboard fibers have been known to come out of the filter element and ruin engines. Y's own filters are a close second to the worst. Here's a list of more than 50 filters that are better. The Supertech ST7317 is around $2.50 from Mallwart and is about the best deal around. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=523

Fram is JUNK I ues a AMSOIL EaOM103 for my Vstar 1100 and it has a check valve to keep the oil up in the top end of the motor so it dont let it drain back

"This is how an oil filter should be made. The anti-drainback valve is double the thickness of any other here, and obviously seals very well. The media is the best available, and there's a lot of it. The bypass valve is made from a laser-cut piece of stainless steel, and just can't bind or jam." I believe that all the Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha filters are made by Denso and are all the same. Ford,GM,Toyota,JD,HD, you name the filter we made them. After saying that I use Supertech in all my vehicles. I would never get between a person and there beliefs, so if you think something else is the messiah of filters or oil you go 4 it.............Ron
Guest kozman01 Posted October 27, 2007 #9 Posted October 27, 2007 I'm not a messiah on anything, but I've cut open my share of oil filters. Purolator Pure One are great filters for only 6 bucks. I have always used that filter and I do an oil analysis on EVERY oil change on my Venture and 06 Acura TSX(also uses the Purolator Pure One) and my particle counts are always very, very low. Just my two cents.

The Yamaha Filter is a complete and end-to-end connected ring of filter paper. The Fram (according to Yamaha) is an incomplete ring, and thus prone to allowing particles through that would be caught in the Yamaha spec filter.

kantornado Posted October 28, 2007 #16 Posted October 28, 2007 There where quite a few different brands of filters that ran through the line after FRAM same filter just different brand name. When we ran say Ford filters after there run we ran FoMoCo,Walmart,Sears,KMart for instance, they where the same filter but different label.Cost for us was less and we could off set the setup cost to Ford who ordered the filters and we never had to worry about holding inventory. The brand name of a label really only means something to the designer and the person willing to pay $20.00 for a name. I change my oil & filter every 3000 miles or before a long trip and after I return or even during the trip if it will be more then 3000 miles during the trip. In the general scheme of things all I really need to know is if the filter will do its job and I change the oil on a regular interval. That is more important then what brand of oil or filter we use. I tended to run vehicles til they died from exhaustion then would fix them up and run it some more. Most people keep a vehicle 4 years and trade it in. This 02 I will have 2 more years then will buy a 08 slightly used. I hope this helps you out Mackinawman and as you see there are wide and varied opinions on the subject. loehring Posted October 30, 2007 #18 Posted October 30, 2007 I have the Rivco adapter for my 1st Gen and use the Mobile 1 M-105. From everything I've read it's one of the best. I guess I look at oil and filters the way I look at tires, that's not the place to pinch pennies. Get the best you can.

LOL ithink in the end you are right.i put 150,00 miles on my 89 escort and used walmart oil and filters from day one.gave it to my niece and she drove it another 25,000.never an engine problem and never used oil.changed oil and filter every 2000mi.good oil and filters in my scoots just buys me piece of mind.bill
