Has any put Baker Air Wings on their 1st gen? I got upper, mid, and lower ones but the two upper ones you have to drill into the fairing. No I' m not crazy about doing this. I wondering if anyone has had any problems with the fairing cracking eventually from the drilling? Do you like them?

Wife and I planned a trip from Northern Delaware to Western North Carolina. We just returned via the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. We had a wonderful time thanks to this site. We have been reading about seats for many months and slurged for the Russell Day Long based on remarks from all of you. Initially, I did sit about 1" higher and the wings were a bit of a pain. However, within the 500 mile break in period all was good. I am again flat footed when stopped (I have a 29" inseam) and the wings have broken in a bit making stops no problem. Wife was complaint free relative to butt issues on our trip, and so was I. Thanks for all of your great information. Here are some seat pics.

I have an '86 scoot and this year I decided to make some wind deflectors to protect my hands better and hopefully widen the air bubble a bit too. They turned out well so I thought I'd share them with you all. After a few nights in the shop tinkering I came up with a design that looks good, does not require you to drill holes to mount and works great as well. Basically it is very straight forward, I used the existing body mount locations to mount the wings. The lower support is from a metal clip board (thin and stiff) and the heads of the bolts fit in the recesses of the faring covers. The upper mount is a 1/8 x 3/4 aluminum that I put in a vice and twisted it. This turns out to be the trickiest piece to fit, but well worth the effort. Mike

Caveman bought the wind wings I had for sale and twisted my arm so hard, I just had to deliver them!!! So, got up this morning and with Wes as my navigator we headed south on US49 to the coast. Met Caveman to deliver the wings. Then he and I rode over to Ocean springs to show off a friend of mine's "museum" of old motorcycles. Simplex-es, Mopeds, an Allstate Cruizaire and a Zundap just to name a few. Had a fantastic catfish lunch (you really missed out Carl!!!) and headed home. All in all about a 350 mile day.

Hey all, Been lurking here for sometime while shopping for 'the one' for me, think I have found it!! A beautiful 2001 rsv with only 11k mi. only complaint is the screaming clutch..... Have read a lot of your input in the tech section and plan on some wrenching, sure I'll have lots of questions for you'll. I have ridden gold wings for years and used to the silky smooth 6 cylinder I guess, but love the looks of these ventures!!!!! I live in central Ar. on scenic hwy 7 later, yammer

What a great addition to my wing.Put on a Kuryakyn backrest and highway pegs what a difference especially the backrest. Did a 400 mile trip to naples Fl no back pain very comfortable ride. Highway pegs are ok but i don't like the way my legs wrap around the motor. Seems a little ac ward may have to try some floor boards. Also put on some baker hand wings there great keep a lot of wind off your hands. Can't wait to get the lower baker wings.

less gas mileage than I have over the last two years. I used to average 45 MPG. Now, I'm getting right around 40 MPG. The only two changes that I have made are: 1) Replaced my stock air filters with K&N air filters 2) Added a pair of Baker Air Wings Any thoughts on which addition would most likely be the culprit? I do have the Air Wings pretty much open all the way...would this cause a significant amount of drag...enough to lose a couple of MPGs? Or is the more likely culprit the K&N filters?

Anyone with the Baker Built Air wings installed have a GOOD, clear picture of the finished installation? The instructions showing a diagram of the fnished installation is about 2" x 2"...so it looks like a black "blob". I can't make out much detail...even with my "readers" on! Anyone?

As strange and against the grain as it seems...I want my machine as quiet as possible. Mine is a 1rst Gen '83 XVZ12 Venture. As you may guess the pipes have rotted on the ends. I've seen posts on putting HD Road Kings on as replacements and that is great. But I know that Gold Wings are verrrrrry quiet machines. Has anybody ever tried this exhaust? Or any kind of mufflers that are intended for silence? Blessings

For a little while I have been entertaining the thought of getting a Gold Wing. Well, after sitting on one today my brief visit with insanity came and gone and I think I found some new love for my RSV. As big as the wings are I felt cramped on it and the leg position, or lack of it really brought me to my senses. Just sitting on it with my feet flat on the floorboards (this one had floorboards) caused my knees to scream in pain. So, after mounting my RSV I felt like I was slipping into a comfy recliner again. For the life of me I just dont see how you all who have wings can get comfortable on one. But thats just me...........

Have any of you seen these? http://landingear.com/ [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOhP1HTZQwY]YouTube - Honda Gold Wing[/ame] They show them for wings & HDs but I wonder if they can be made for the Venture. I am going to have to do something one day, as my hips are getting worse and the Venture is alot to hold up - especially riding 2 up. I looked at Trikes this morning at a local trike shop. All they had were Wings & HDs. They said one of the kits do fit a Star Tour Deluxe but nothing for the Venture. I thought about ordering one someplace else and paying this shop to install it. But I am still looking at a lot of money! With this Landing Gear thing, I would still get to keep the leaning in the corners. I Just hate to give that up if I don't have to. What do ya think? Craigr

Were you on a blue VR riding southbound through Springfield, Colorado? Was it on Monday of this week? (03/23/2009) At around 11:00 MST? Did you turn westbound on 160? I was sitting in a Co-Way truck at the truck stop when you rode by. It caught me off guard to see a VR go by, I usually only see Harleys or Gold Wings go by at that location.

Well, I think I have had enough of the birds here in Iowa. Maybe the water is different in Michigan. A couple of summers ago, I had an owl try to take my helmet off. It actually hit my helmet with its feet. With my first gen I have dodged countless sparrows and blackbirds and actually hit two with the windscreen. Last summer I pegged a bird of some sort (I still don't know what it was) with the mirror stem of my nighthawk at 75mph. Gave a new defininition to the term: poof! I walked into the house, covered in blood, guts, and everything "else" that comes out of a bird. My wife looked at me, a confused look on her face, "What happened to you?" Well, today, they called in the heavy armor... I was following a car to work this morning at a nice pace. About two miles left on my 18mile commute I saw a turkey standing on the side of the road, facing away from the street. The car spooked it, and it started walking into the ditch. I was already slowing down, keeping an eye on the bird, sure enough, the fat bastard looked at me, turned around and started running back onto the street. I am braking as hard as I can now, and the bird lifts its wings and starts to fly. I am actually relieved, thinking I can put a shoulder into the bird easier than trying to run one over. By now I may be down to about 30mph, and the last flap of the wings lifted the bird over my head. I think the Gen threes should come with anti-aircraft missles.

I'm starting to look for a trailer to pull behind the Venture. I've pulled one a lot behind Wings in the past but I sold the old trailer. I'm now looking for a good used one if there's any available. I'm located in Central Ky. Eddie

While sitting around shooting the breeze in Kitchener...the topic of good glues came up. Someone mentioned a really great glue that was better than crazy glue, invisible and they used it to glue some..."angel wings" back on a ornament. Anyone remember this conversation? What was the stuff and how does one get some? Thanks

Is there another vendor who makes air wings other than Baker? I would like to compare the products. I saw in a earlier post that some where made using alluminum plate are there any pictures and/or fabrication information? I am mainly looking into the lower wings that protect the feet. I have the crashbar chaps by Airlite on my Nomad and they are great ! Easy on and off with velcro... http://www.airlite.ca/page_images/1/kawasaki_nomad_engine_guard.jpgt. Any other ideas ? Dave

I had Ventureline air wings on the bike and I took them all the way off because one of the plastic part of the wing was broken really bad. Just one of those will let me put them back on. Bakers wings are kind of high and I am not interested in their name on it. Not looking to get it for free, willing to pay for it. I have only ever seen them on ebay once and I was outbid. So, if you have an extra one and willing to part with it, please let me know.

Baker Air Wings on 2nd. Gen Venture
MickO posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am considering the purchase of a set of the Baker Air Wings for my 2006 RSV. I was very pleased with the Baker Wing's performance on my last bike (1999 Valkyrie Interstate). What kind of experience have others had on their Venture? One area of concern I have is the method in which the wings are attached to the bike. I appears that they are only attached at the lower engine crash bars. Does this provide enough support? Thx.
