  1. At a wine merchant's warehouse the regular taster died, and the director started looking for a new one to hire. A retired Chief Petty Officer, drunk and with a ragged dirty look, came to apply for the position. The director wondered how to send him away. They gave him a glass of wine to taste. The old Chief tried it and said, "It's a Muscat three years old, grown on a north slope, matured in steel containers. Low grade but acceptable." "That's correct," said the boss. "Another glass, please. After tasting the wine, the Chief declared, " a cabernet, eight years old, south-western slope, oak barrels, matured at eight degrees. Requires three more years for finest results." "Absolutely correct. A third glass." ''It's a pinot blanc champagne, high grade and exclusive,'' calmly said the drunk. The director was astonished and winked at his secretary to suggest something. She left the room and came back in with a glass of urine. The old Navy Chief tried it. "It's a blonde, 26 years old, three months pregnant, and if I don't get the job, I'll name the father."
  2. Yesterday around 1:00pm I felt a slight pain in my right elbow, by 4:00pm it hurt like hell just to move it, by 7:00pm it was swelled up three times it's normal size and could hardly move it. 10:00pm it was swelled up, won't bend and turning purple. Called a friend of my Daughters Mother to see if my Daughter could spend the night so I could go to ER. Got to Er and set and set and set until they finally got me in and took x-rays. I have an infection in the fluid sack of my right elbow, pumped me full of antibiotics (after blowing out a vein in my left arm) and gave me a script for more antibiodics and sent me home at 5:00am. Called my family doctor and he said they should of drawn some of the fluid out to see what kind of infection I have, so he's waiting for the hospital report to see if anything else needs to be done. Now I hurt like hell, can't sleep, can not hardly use my right arm and drinking wine with my left hand with the hope the wine will let me sleep. If this is a sign of old age, I vote NO.
  3. Hard to believe..... Jeannette and I both did it this week! "When I get older, losing my hair, many years from now Will you still be sending me a valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out 'til quarter to three, would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm sixty-four?" http://www.elyrics.net/read/b/beatles-lyrics/when-i_m-64-lyrics.html
  4. glass of wine To my friends who enjoy a glass of wine...And those who don't and are alwaysseen with a bottle of water in their hand. As Ben Franklin said:In wine there is wisdom,In beer there is freedom,In water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials,Scientists have demonstrated that if we drink1 litre of water each day,At the end of the year we would have absorbedMore than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteriaFound in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop. However,We do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer(or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor)Because alcohol has to go through a purification processOf boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. Remember:Water = Poop,Wine = Health. Therefore, it's better to drinkwine and talk stupid, than to drink water and befull of sh_t. There is no need to thank me for this valuable information:I'm doing it as a public service!
  5. Did you happen to notice to date, we now have 11,450 registered members ? Can you imagine if all of them would participate and show up at Don's for MD next year? Dan you may not have room to park that Diesel rig next year! We may need to get Eileen a lot of boxes of wine! Yama Mama
  6. Our 5th annual wine party is this coming Saturday, Feb.19th....wine of choice this year is Shiraz...or Syrah, depending on what part of the world it's from. Warm ups start at 7:00, and the "official" tasting begins at 8:00 sharp. Keep the cost of your bottle under $30, keeping in mind that last years winner was $4.95 U.S.(Barefoot Merlot) Here's how it works....I take your bottle of wine, wrap it in a paper bag, # it.....and when the tasting time arrives, they are all set out, and the score sheets are given to those that want to rate the wines, according to their tastes. The score sheets are added up at the end of the wine tasting, and a "winer" is declared, along with the next 4 top rated so that you can rate your tasting against the "official results". Last year we sampled 19 different bottles, and had 60 winos attend.....it is a lot of fun. So, if you plan to attend, let me know, I'll get you our address and telephone #. There's a spare bed and 2 spare couches...and lots of floor space to share with the dog and cat Speaking from past experience, the food available is awesome, the mix of people is very entertaining, and it is a GREAT way to break up a long, bleak, cold, dreary, snowy, did I mention COLD winter? gunk:shock3:
  7. Better than papertowels and a lot lessexpensive... COFFEE FILTERS Coffee filters ..... Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones. 1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers. 2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling. 3. It soaks out all the grease. 14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers." 15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliquing soft fabrics. 16.. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors. 17... 8. When inviting friends over for dinner, and if you cleaned your oven that afternoon, Miz Manners suggests having an ample supply of wine available prior to dinner, AND make sure the oven still works after cleaning it... We won't mention whose house we went to diner at!
  9. My wife and I just returned from what is probably our last trip of the year. We left for the Amana Colonies yesterday morning at 0700 and just now returned. It was a nice short trip, (515 miles), but most of the fall leaves have already fallen. We took our new LITTLE MD80 video camera with us and clipped it to my wife's dew rag. I am anxious to see the videos to see how they turned out. I will post them to YouTube if they come out okay. We took our Roadstar trailer so we could load up on wine, beer and Root Bear. I averaged 34mpg at approx. 75 to 80mph. - Better than usual. The bike ran great. But I will have to check the heater out. It didn't seem to work as well this trip. Craigr
  10. It was a very small group, me, Irene, and KDFranzen, but we met, we rode, we ate, and we had a great time. The ride was through some very scenic Kentucky and southern Indiana areas. We plan on doing this one again next year, though probably a week or two earlier. The leaves were a little past their prime this year. Photos here. Videos here. The main page, as always, is here (with corrected Wine Country videos). By the way, the first four are through the most rural area. Numbers five through seven are the Ohio River Road. The last one is in Corydon itself. If you go here you can see them in full screen mode, though the resolution isn't the best - old camera.
  11. Many of you have read about my unending oil changes with little to no change in the ugly wine that got worse as the bike heated up. On my ride to the Flight 93 Memorial (180 miles) I was NOT at all annoyed with the wine. On the way home the bike was hotter ( could tell with my temp. gauge) and it did get slightly louder. Before I left home on Tuesday I had a problem with my right behind the ear hearing aid, wouldn't work correctly so I left with the left one only. Now it must be said that my right ear is the better of the 2 but I'm not deaf without it. The wine had dissipated to hardly noticeable both ways - what I have found since is that the right ear 'pitch' with the aid in is magnifying the wine. Wish I had found this about 4 or 5 oil changes ago. Could have saved a couple hundred $$$$$$ So, from now on I'll just ride w/o the right ear aid - problem solved !!
  12. For those of you that have been to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, you may know that they have their own winery and do tours of the winery and give taste tests. Well, to maybe add to the culture of the early Asheville folks and especially since we had twelve bottles of homemade wine, we had a wine and cheese tasting session. What made this even better was Woody (SylWoody)and his wife Katrina brought some really good tasting wine, and I mean really good tasting. It really started out nicely in being able to taste the richness of the flavors and compare one particular wine against another. But unfortunately, after a few samples, I believe we may have lost some of the tasting abilities as I think some of our taste buds begin to loose their effectiveness. It was also a bit of a problem as some seemed to not have any interest at all in tasting any of the cheese. So, any way, I thought I would post some pictures in this endeavor to add some class to this group, but I am not sure how effective this was. RandyA

  15. Apples and Wine Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they'reamazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. Now Men.... Men are like a fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it's up to women to stomp the living daylights out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

Thanks for any and all info and be safe out there.
  18. Or maybe I should have said wine collectors....I have some limited edition merlots from 2001 and 2003 that are about ready to sell. They are from the Marilyn Merlot line. Mint condtion bottles and labels and the wine has been properly cared for and rotated to prevent sediment.

  20. This area is one of Western New York's famous Wine regions, along the shores of Lake Erie to the south. Sure smelled like grapes today!! Managed to come home with a trunk full of full wine bottles... MRAF, we turned around in Ripley but I couldn't remember where you said your place was. We turned right off or 20 at the light and went over to Rt5 and headed north again. Absolutely gorgeous day for an early fall ride. Leaves are just beginning to turn, and should be in full color for the Fall Floage ride coming up on the 13th (see the Other Events forum for details)...
