1. Curious to see if anyone is using the new Nokia 920 windows 8 phone. All reviews I read say its an outstanding phone and many are switching from I phone to it. Do we have any feedback from anyone on the board about it???? Joe
2. So after a not very painful process I got rid of MS Windows:) on both my laptop (HP with Vista) and my netbook (MSI with XP) and have moved on to Linux (Mint w/ Cinnamon on my laptop and Olicloud on my netbook). I might try some other desktop interfaces but pleased with my current setup, will give me some things to do this winter in case its cold and rainy. Everything running smoothly and faster. Now to go back and refresh my memory on all the unix/linux commands so I can play around in a terminal window. Only problem I haven't found an EASY linux solution for was updating the maps on my Garmin Zumo 550 (no linux support at Garmin) but I can use my wifes MAC for that as needed. Currently using Shotwell to organize over 10,000 photos in my spare time.
3. Just bought a new lap top with the Windows 8 operating system. Man I hate change. This is going to be a real steep learning curve for me.
4. Anytime I try to respond to anything on Craigs List or other things, my computer automatically goes to Windows Live Mail and I have never set it up and don't even know how to get into it. I use Comcast mail and Yahoo. I need to either set it up or change it to go to an account I now use. Any suggestions? If giving suggestions, please make it basic. I am somewhat computer challenged. Thanks, RandyA
5. I have a new WD 2Tb caviar green sata drive that I can not get to format. I am running a clean new install of Windows 7 on a SATA drive using a slightly old MB, ASUS AV8 deluxe, 2.5 g ram AMD processor, 9800 ATI AGP video. 64 bit I have tried Windows format with no discernable progress. I have used Acronis which goes to 3 of 3 - Creating partition then has no progress. Any suggestions. I do see the drive in Windows Manage - Disk Management screen Also having issue getting VIA SATA driver to run on 7. MB has 3 IDE inputs & 4 SATA. Also have an add in card with 2 more SATA & 1 more IDE input. Gary
6. REPLACEMENT WINDOWS Last year I replaced all the windows in my house with that expensive double-pane energy efficient kind, and today, I got a call from the contractor who installed them. He was complaining that the work had been completed a whole year ago and I still hadn't paid for them. Hellloooo,............just because I'm blonde doesn't mean that I am automatically stupid. So, I told him just what his fast talking sales guy had told me last year, that in ONE YEAR these windows would pay for themselves! Helllooooo? It's been a year! I told him. There was only silence at the other end of the line, so I finally just hung up. He never called back. I bet he felt like an idiot.

8. This last storm has been a bad one here. I know that Alabama got hit hard, but we had seven people killed at a local truck stop in southwest Virginia and my kid brother was at the same truck stop when it happened. He had a 2X4 come thru the sleeper in the truck he was in and all he got was some minor cuts from glass. My lady Linda had new windows installed in her house two weeks ago and 12 of them got broken and her vinyl siding looks like someone spent an hour shooting the house with a machine gun from the hail. My Maxima looks like someone with a big ball peen hammer went all over it. I am surprised my windows survived but my passenger side mirror is busted. My concern now is our eastern NC friends like Mini Muffin, ADC Aurthur, Beer 30 and others. This one is not done yet. RandyA
9. It's Friday, it's snowing, and I just don't feel like it!! Besides, just as fast as I brush the snow off the windows they get filled up again! Soooo, good day to tinker in the garage...
10. If you're like me and have been using the same old scanner for the last 10 or 12 years and the thing works for all you need it... but have upgraded to Vista or Win 7 only to discover your scanner is not supported by either windows or the scanner MFG .... DON'T THROW IT OUT!! I almost did this with not only my own personal scanner but also one here at the office. Then I found this program called VueScan ... http://www.hamrick.com/ It will install drivers for you. At least it did for our old HP scanners. Voila` ... both scanners now work in Windows 7 !!
11. I love to camp. This past week end was a camping date for me. Found out real quickly I needed a new tent for wind and cool temps. Need some help on picking a tent that has windows and doors that can be covered. Also want a tent with rain fly that goes to the ground. Something of a 4 season type.
12. Yall be careful when swapping USB drives from one Windows machine to another. Another Windows bug is being exploited out there: http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/lnk-vulnerability-in-Windows-Attack-wave-approaches-1044370.html http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2366651,00.asp Or you can just google lnk bug or lnk virus. ( thats a small L, not a capital i, as in link without the i) Be sure to keep the security software up to date!
13. Ok....been getting the warnings lately that some programs will no longer be supported with Internet Explorer 7 so it's time to jump to IE8. No biggie right? I download the upgrade file for my Windows XP and go to install it. Dang...... I have the file BOIE8_MSCOM_XP.EXE as the upgrade but when I go to install it I get the message "BOIE8_MSCOM_XP.EXE is not a valid Win32 application" I spent some time on the Windows site and checked that I have all the needed updates installed on my system and it looks like I have everything I need. I can get around a computer pretty well if I know where I'm going but I'm a bit stumped on this one. Any suggestions? Mike
14. I just did everything possible that I can think of to bring winter back. I got the bike cleaned up and running. I put all of the snow shovels away. I took the snow brush and ice scraper out of the truck. Started taking down the storm windows and putting up the screens. I don't know what else I can do to bring back winter???
15. Anyone know of a free pic resizing program for Windows 7? Can those used in XP & Vista be used on Windows 7? Larry
16. It's beautiful since we don't get much snow around the Raleigh, NC area but it sure cuts into riding. It's been cold around here but I've been on a number of Patriot Guary missions; you can't go in this stuff. I guess you guys up north laugh at us down here but what can I say. Spring is just around the corner. Hope everyone is safe and warm; I don't send many threads but I don't have a lot to do right now. I did get my stebel air horn in but am waiting on the bracket to install. Can't wait to blow out the windows in the garage.
17. I returned home yesterday after a 3 day trip, when my wife turned on the desk top PC and was working on a word Doc. everything was acting very slow, as in she would type a word, and get a hour glass for a few seconds before the word she typed would show up...I had her re-boot the PC, then we got an error message about the HD, I do not remember what it said as I can not get it to come up again. The pc will start to load, up to the point of the Windows XP start up screen...thats as far as it will go, then it will cycle again, returning to the same page... I am thinking of buying a new HD and give that a try Vs. buying a whole new PC. We have had a few crashes with this one over the last 2 years.. any suggestions/tips would be great. Thanks, Kreg
18. I know several of you have the Go Pro cameras. I just got one and when I play back the videos there's no sound. I have Winders Vister (that's East TN. for Windows Vista). Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? TIA Jim
19. Hope Everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving with Family and Friends... Enjoy the Windows Media Video..... George In Virginia
20. OK....I posted long ago about a GREAT image resizer "powertool" that is the best and easiest I've ever used for quick resizing of images to post them here and in the pic gallery. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not release this tool for Windows Vista. So, I went searching for something for you Vista users and found the following program that supposedly works the same way. Now I haven't tested this because I don't use Vista but some of you who do might want to give it a try and report back. Note: I removed the original link to this program because I am now getting an "attack site" warning from there. Here is another that I found though that works exactly the same as the XP version of the image resizer. http://sourceforge.net/projects/phototoysclone/
21. Hi y'all. I just noticed these today, these round things on the sides of the hydraulic fluid reservoirs for my front brake and for my clutch. It appears as if these may actually be windows designed for easy checking of fluid levels inside the reservoirs. I can't confirm this though because there seems to be 24 years of hardedned road grime on these windows. I haven't attempted to clean them yet for fear of using too much pressure on them and causing breakage. I was wondering what the best way to clean these would be and if it's actually safe to do so.
22. Are you okay? Just saw the news and it looked like your area really took a big hit this morning with the storms that moved through. Did you have any hail damage to your vehicles or broken windows. We had some real high winds and lost some more tree limbs, and the power was out for about 7 hours today, but no damage to the house.
23. It was when moving the site to a new server that I realized or remembered that Windows Explorer search function would NOT search within PHP files for words and/or phrases. I was trying to find all the files that had certain database and absolute paths so that I could update them to work with the new server. This will be no use to many of you but for those who sometimes need to search within all file types, it worked very well. Windows Grep
24. Hi all, I really tore into it and I have most of the body parts painted. Just have the 2 bags bottoms to do today, and I have them done. Not perfect but good enough for the woman I go out with. I was looking at the side vents for the engine covers. They aren't really bad, but not perfect, and somewhere, I think here I saw that someone had made some smoked acrylic windows to replace them. Does anyone know the thread? I will post pics when IO get it together. D
25. No, I didn't buy a 2nd gen... I installed Ubuntu Linux and here I am! I set this up on my home PC while retaining my original Windows XP OS... now have a dual boot loader. Decided to move to Linux at home as I'm installing it onto one of my servers at work, replacing Windows 2003 Enterprise. Of the 5 servers we have, the Linux server will play a small role, acting as a "disaster recovery" storage box for all the data as well as the other server's images which are updated on a weekly basis. The decision to move to Linux was mostly monetary as we're replacing our first domain controller and didn't want to purchase another copy of Windows 2003 server. We can use the copy from the converted Linux box. I've been experimenting with Linux for several years; however, this is the first time I've used it in a real world situation. Gotta say...it's GREAT!
