My 1985 VR is weeping gas out of a plug on the top of carb #1. The manual is not much help. The plug is about the size of a dime and has four very small slots around the perimeter (maybe used to remove?). You can see it in the picture below (its the shiny spot next to the #1 carb throat). Can anyone help me with ideas on a fix?

Ok I'm going to tangent this problem which came up in my other thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=645718&postcount=23 The gas smell went away after 24 hours. I did not restart the bike. I reopened the petcock and the smell resurfaced within 20 min. Nothing is weeping or leaking, yet there the smell of gas is strongest right at the petcock. Anybody encounter this before? I want to avoid pulling the tank if possble, but if the lines need replacing so be it.

All, OMG where do I start? Mimi & I (Charlie) went on our fist ever weekender and camping trip on the Bike about 900 miles round trip. It is way to hard to list ALL THE GREAT PEOPLE we meet too many too list them all. Some THANK YOU's I must Post: Don, Thanks for everything... Brad, Thanks for Carb Tune "Tweak". Gene, Saddle Bags were Great and You were better (Vet Stuff) Rick, Mimi arrived with a sore tailbone (8-9 hours seat time). After fixing Her 2nd Gen Pillow Seat she arrived home with less stops and Zero, Nadda, Zipola Tailbone Pain. Now the only PITA left is me LOL. She wants to say THANK YOU PS... Don I filed for "squatters rights for 2010 and beyond" under the weeping willow tree. I figure I can rent out the remaining shade and donate to St-Judes. Also the folks talking to the Weeping Willow tree were no totally crazy (Shhhhhh....) Charlie & Mimi God Bless
