I took my Roadstar lights when I bought my venture, the bulbs are 55 watts, are they drawing too much power? or are the the right wattage for the Venture? I'm thinking of going to a lower wattage bulb, because of all the lights I have on the back of the bike, and for the extra lights I have on the trailer. (4 3 candle watt bulbs as runners) & the LED run, brake, & turn on the back. How many watts am I pulling when I'm running the radio, 3 head lights, and pulling the trailer? and what is the Max out put on the system?

I recently installed a voltage meter. It has a stock Stator. It has a non AGM battery. My question is what should be the approximate proper reading when: 1) At an idel of about 900 rpms 2) At running speed of say 65 mph in 5th gear 3) After a 24 hour charge with a 2 amp battery charger. What mininum voltage reading should I be concerned with. My 89 VR has the standard lights with the addition of a set of Wallmart Plattium Burners (55 watt). I heard many postings to swap out to 35 watts, with a couple that says that 55 watts are ok. I thought that if I knew the proper voltage reading that the reading would determine if I need to go to the 35 watts. I do have several LEDs on. 4 Turn signals, 2 additional stop lights all from Custom Dynamics, but being that they are not all the time and they are LEDs thought they would have mininum inpact.

I'm looking to get a new set of speakers for my bike (Soundstorm F240's) for a great price. They seem to look great, and have great specs regarding what I'm looking for. However, I'm not sure what the output is on the radio amp? I'm gonna guess it's less than 50 watts as most cars in that time period usually had 35 watt amps from the factory. Thanks in advance, WHCC

Just curious if any member uses electrically heated riding gear on A lst Edition? I have had a full set of Warm Gear sold by Cozy Winters for some time but have never used it. I am planning on a Big Bend Texas ride next month and I expect the weather will get pretty darn cool, low to mid thirties and would like to use at least part of the gear. I was thinking bout using only the jacket (100 watts) and the socks (40 watts) and am not sure that would over tax the charging system of a lst Gen. Since most riding will be during day light hours, no other electrical accessories will be used (driving lights). Any advise?

Gerbings Heated Gear and my 09 RSV
csogbk posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just purchased my 09 RSV last month and as the temps turn somewhat cooler I am looking at installing my Gerbings. I have the pack that connects to the battery and controlls two inputs with adjustable knobs. Does anyone know off the bat if the 09 RSV will support that much power useage (ie jacket liner, gloves and pants)? I have no passing lamos or anything installed, would perhaps plug my ipod / gps in the accy. plug, I know I could add up all the watts but was hoping someone already knew?! From the Gerbings Website the following watts are used, I would assume when the item is on at full power: Jacket 77 Watts Pants 44 Watts Gloves 22 Watts -
Found at Wally world the "Burners" small chrome foglights that would work great on a motorcycle. Problem is they draw 100 watts and most bikes dont have that to spare. Swapping down to 35Watt bulbs drops the load to 70 watts but that's not good enough for me. I work for a company that is on the cutting edge of LED lighting. the image attached shows 2 different lights in the same small Burners foglights. the white one is a 1 watt white LED matrix, the other is a blinding 3 Watt assembly with focusing lenses. The Image does not show it, but it hurts to look at the Yellow one. I went 1 block down and the bike was incredibly obvious. And yellow is an attention getting color that is legal for the front of the bike. the white ones are a wide flood, dont light the road any. the Yellow ones light the road. what do you guys think? Oh the high power yellow ones draw a total of 6 watts. I can put 3 sets on a bike and still be way under the typical foglight draw. I love how stark the yellow color is, very attention getting. Note photo was taken in bright daylight. I'll take another tonight.

I have a stupid Qustion... Why, for icing reasons do the carb heaters only turn on at 68 degs? what would freeze at that temp? -somthing to do with how cold fuel is? And each one uses 15 watts to boot. I think I will disconect them. (60 total) I could use them watts in other places. The thermostat is calibrated to turn the heaters on at 68ºF and off at 78ºF. The purpose of the carb heaters is to eliminate the possibility of carb icing and to ensure proper performance under certain weather conditions.

I was thinking of adding some driving lights to our bike, but I don't want to over load the charging system. Does anyone Know what the electrical system can sustain, ie, amps watts?
