Hey all. It's been a while. Been riding too much to spend time in front of the computer! I think I have a problem. Went out to go for a ride this afternoon, and out of the blue, she wouldn't fire. ('07 RSV) Always fires on the first crank. I pulled the choke out all the way, and if I cranked it a while, she'd finally catch and idle real slow. If I touched the throttle or choke, she stalled. Then I started replaying my actions in my mind, and realized I never heard the fuel pump clicking. Off with the seat and side panel. Tapped on the pump with my fingertip, and when I turned on the ignition, the pump ran like the carbs were clear empty. Now it seems fine. Starts and runs like new. Is my pump trying to tell me something? Do they give warning before they fail? This was a New Old Stock bike, that might still be under warranty. Will the dealer replace the pump because I said it was having a fit? Looks like my Christmas road trip is out the window. Thanks for any help and opinions. Bert

My 84 Venture has aquired a little quirk. As I accelerate the battery warning comes on and the warning light will flash. Run down the road a little and it will return to normal. I can not make it happen, it seems to do it intermitantly. Any ideas?

I'm still in the process of getting my '83 roadready. I did actually ride it for the first time the other day. She really runs nice considering I haven't had the carbs adjusted yet. The problem I'm having now is that the red warning light is always flashing. Where do I begin in the process of chasing down the problem?

Hello. I've just bought 98RSTD from a private party. The bike sat in his garage idle since 97. I had the carbs worked/plugs/fluids and it runs fine except it'll shut off without warning even down the freeway at 65mph. The lights don't go out. After you stop it'll start back up just fine, but it'll do it again. Anyone had anything like this?. Thanks, P.S I'm new to VR.

If you buy stuff on line, check out the seller carefully, especially first genners when you buy on eBay. A friend spent $50 on a penis enlarger. The vendor sent him a magnifying glass, with an instruction warning, "Do not use in the sunlight"

Just clicked on a link in google to this site, thread #32541 and received the attached malware warning. Don't know if it's legit, just wanted to let the admins know.

Hi- looking for a cmu for the 85vr. I can't locate a reason why 3, sometimes 4 warning lights are on as well as the red warning light, so I am down to shotgunning it. Ordered a fuseblock kit from skydoc, and I'd like to locate a cmu in the meantime. I "think" 84-86 will fit but I'm not sure and hate to buy an incompatable one. (if I can even find one). Thanks! Kevin

Every so often the oil warning (bottom left) symbol comes on. It stays on for a while, then goes off. Sometimes it does it a couple of times in a row, then goes off. No particular pattern. There is plenty of oil in the sight window. I do know how to check it. Oil can be new or old. Driving fast or slow. Short haul or long haul. Level or hill. Once it goes off I may not see it again for weeks. The rest of my computer is working. I have two theories based on the best source - near total ignorance. Some kind of electrical connection issue working up on me, or an actual issue with the sensor/sendor. My understanding is this isn't an oil pressure sensor, but something else. What else I don't know. It works like my toilet bowl for all I know. Any clues or suggestions you can send my way much appreciated. Thanks Tom

This bike came with no owners manual and my search skills are apparently limited. I was wondering what the warning symbol directly below the side stand warning is. Maybe fuel? :confused24:Also I think I'm going to have to change the thermostat. Coolant is flowing through the radiator long before the temp gauge comes up. Then there's the battery warning mod I need to do, which I have found info on.

I bought a Canadian Custom cruisers HID kit for my 86 Venture and I was wondering if anybody has installed one of these on a 1st gen bike? Will it make the headlight warning system trigger?, If so is there a work around for this? Going to work on this over next week so any advice is appreciated Thanks, Gary

Hey all - Got an '83 Venture Royale that has started intermittently displaying the low brake fluid level warning light... usually it pops on during acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gears. Checked the fluid levels and they seem fine. no drips, leaks or missing fluid at all. BTW ... brakes are working just fine as well. Anyone have any suggestions or ran into this before? Thanks in advance J

This makes no sense at all. The PO installed running lights. a wire comes off the fuse block to a switch...then to the lights. Simple right? So why does turning on the running lights cause my sidestand warning to come on? Not right away....and not after any kind of predictable time. They come on after a random time period...but will stay on until I turn off the running lights. Turning off the running lights turns off the red warning light and computer graphic. Turn on the running lights and the warnings come back on...sometimes right away....sometimes not for quite awhile. When this warning comes on, it does not kill the engine( it works as it should when the side stand IS actually down) Its only a minor annoyance....but it's got me completely baffled!

Having a nice ride today , I start getting anxious because it was beginning to rain , and I didnt want to get caught in it. I dont mind rain but after 4 hours of riding I was too lazy to throw on rain gear. There was a car in front of me going way slower than the speed limit ( WARNING #1) He tapped the brakes a few times while comming up to intersections ( WARNING # 2). He puts his left turn signal and gets close the the yellow lines ( WARNING WARNING DONT DO IT) I proceed to squeeze past his right side just as I was passing his rear bumper I notice teh right turn signal come on!!!!!! I only had 2 feet between the car and the curb and I decided to hop the curb. i was pissed for a second at his attempt at assassanating me but then realized I was the one at fault. He let me know 3 times that he was gonna hurt me and I didnt listen. This time it ended nicely and I got home safe but I may not be so lucky next time. I know better than that! I guess i needed a refresher course. What was I thinking

Here is a picture of where I installed my Battery Bug Volt/battery monitor/thingy. When I bought my bike in November I realized that the battery was probably toast. When I installed the bug the replace battery alarm went off and both warning indicators were lit and it showed 0% of battery life left. So yesterday I installed a new Deka ETX20L, hooked everything back up and the bug immediately showed 100% battery condition, the warning indicators went off, the alarm stopped beeping and it read 14.2 volts. I installed it just to the edge of the right hand speaker since I always use my headset and it is easy to read there without moving my eyes too much. Also here are a few pics of the graphics I put on my bike. So touching wood, my bike is road ready for 2011. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta

Some of you have installed a water temp guage, and the question is where did you install the sensor?? Are there two sensors.?? One to power the warning light and another to kick in the fan like on the 1stGen?? And if so, can the warning light sensor be swapped out for a guage sensor??

While at work earlier this morning I went on the "Pics from Asheville" site and opened the photobucket URL. I immediately got a Trojan virus warning and a box about some spyware that I could not turn off. I rebooted and it did not help. I then did the free scan thing and was told I would have to purchase the anti-spyware program. When I finally got that box off and rebooted, I could not get on the internet or our company intranet. I had to call the IT department and have them go thru it. I did try our Malware program and it did not help. but with their updated program, IT was able to fix it. I have no idea what happened as it is obvious others were able to open the site. RandyA

When I wind her up through the gears I am getting an oil warning light. Several others have said this is normal for the VR. What say you? Squid? Dingy? Others?

I've reviewed the headlight posts and can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I have an idea what it is. The headlight warning kicks on randomly, but the headlight remains lit. If I toggle the high beam/low beam, the light goes out for a little while. It was with just the high beam, and would go off when I switched to low beam. Now it will come on randomly on either low or high beam and will randomly go out (the warning, not the headlight). Flipping the headlight switch usually works temporarily. I'm wondering if it's an issue of Computer cold-soldering...or a bad headlight switch? Any ideas? Thanks.

Could it be possible to have some kind of perimeter sensor installed so that while you were driving, if someone drove their vehicle too close to the sides or rear of the bike, the stebel horn would AUTOMATICALLY SOUND? Kinda like an advance warning... I know it sounds crazy, that's why I'm asking... Some of you people can get real clever!
