  1. My oldest daughter, biker name is Awahoo, who is a School Teacher now out near Sacramento CA hasnt always been a full grown woman.. A number of years ago (yesterday in my mind) her and I were on a bike trip out west.. We were riding a 1984 Blonde Royale who the kids named "Beeg" (Beeg's Blonde side covers can been seen on our current bike "Tweeks").. We had camped out in Badlands of South Dakota the night before, packed up and went looking for breakfast.. The west end of the Badlands pretty much emptys out into a place many of you have heard of, a place called Wall Drug.. We drifted into Wall Drug, found breakfast and got to goofing off in one of their many "Cowboy and Indian" tourist area.. I lost track of her for few minutes so, of course, I went looking for her.. I found Awahoo standing next to one of those Music Displays with a set of ear phone muffs on, standing there listening to a song with tears running down her cheeks.. I walked over to see why she was crying.. She handed me the ear phones and said "listen to this Dad,, they wrote this song about you".. Here is what she was listening to: When we left Wall Drug and headed toward the Black Hills a trail of water followed our bike and it wasnt coming from a leaking water pump!!
  2. Don't know if this has been posted before. Found and ordered one these wall clocks off of Ebay. ($25) He has all models of MC and other vehicles. Just received mine today. Here is the link: Merry Christmas to me. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-S-Wall-Clock-Free-USA-Shipping-/121033158081?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D4230751189823041217%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D121033158081%26
  3. Attention all VR Members: As you know, we recently took our donation to St. Jude's and toured the hospital. While on the tour, we noticed the "walkway" had several engraved bricks. We asked our tour guide about them and she let us know that for a certain donation, you could have a "brick" engraved. As we toured the hospital..we noticed there were walls inside with engraved plaques. Again..for a certain donation, you can have your name on a plaque on the wall. As we kept walking..we started thinking...wouldn't it be really neat to at least have a brick out there with "VENTURERIDER.ORG, For the Children" on it? So with Freebird's permission and Dragonrider's blessing...we are going to change up our St. Jude's Fundraising a little bit this year... With your help, we can raise enough money FOR AT LEAST ONE BRICK!! And who knows? If we get enough $$$ maybe, just MAYBE, we could get a plaque. The rates are as follows per the website: I went on the St. Jude's website and this is what I found: 1. Small brick: $1000 2. Lg Brick: $1500 On the TRIBUTE WALL: 1. Small Plaque: $2500-4999 2. Lg Plaque: $5000 SUPPORTER'S WALL: $10,000. If we could get just ONE DOLLAR ($!) from every member..we could do it! This is such a worthy cause. Over the years we have donated alot of money, but didn't know we could ask for a brick or plaque...This is YOUR chance to give just a little bit and yet..do SO MUCH! so what do you think? All you have to do is send your $$ to Dragonrider (Lewis Cramer) by paypal @ partin_guy@yahoo.com or by mail. Will have to add the address on a later post. Come on folks! We can do this! How about it? Are you with me? Thanks Patti and Don :fingers-crossed-emo
  4. I have some good used tires that I would like to give away to someone who could use them. They are all about 50% or better. Best if you could pick them up as shipping could get expensive especially if crossing the border. 1 Avon front black wall 1 Avon rear white wall 1 Dunlop rear white wall
  5. The Handwriting on the Wall A weary mother returned from the store, Lugging groceries through the kitchen door. Awaiting her arrival was her 8 year old son, Anxious to relate what his younger brother had done. "While I was out playing and Dad was on a call, T.J. took his crayons and wrote on the wall! It's on the new paper you just hung in the den. I told him you'd be mad at having to do it again." She let out a moan and furrowed her brow, "Where is your little brother right now?" She emptied her arms and with a purposeful stride, She marched to his closet where he had gone to hide. She called his full name as she entered his room. He trembled with fear--he knew that meant doom! For the next ten minutes, she ranted and raved About the expensive wallpaper and how she had saved. Lamenting all the work it would take to repair, She condemned his actions and total lack of care. The more she scolded, the madder she got, Then stomped from his room, totally distraught! She headed for the den to confirm her fears. When she saw the wall, her eyes flooded with tears. The message she read pierced her soul with a dart. It said, "I love Mommy," surrounded by a heart. Well, the wallpaper remained, just as she found it, With an empty picture frame hung to surround it. A reminder to her, and indeed to all, Take time to read the handwriting on the wall !!!
  6. Just wondering if any members plan on attending. http://thepatriotride.org/ride.php The Canadian Vietnam Vets Assoc (CVVA) traveling wall will also be on dispay.

  8. Just in case anyone wants to put this on their calander.... We are very proud to announce the 2012 Patriot Ride in Ham Lake, MN. This is the 7th Year of Minnesota Motorcyclists are making a difference for our military here and abroad. Sponsored by Dennis Kirk this ride came from the idea that citizens needed to do more to show their support in more ways than just slapping a ribbon magnet on their cars. Last year just over $100,000 was raised to support the MN Patriot Guard and the Minnesotans' Military Appreciation Fund. That money makes a meaningful difference to those in uniform from Minnesota. What really matters is that you show up and show you care. The crowd size, the cheers, and the tears all help make up the biggest military support ride in the Midwest. Along with the vendors and military equipment displays is a special Moving Wall. Many of you have seen a Vietnam Moving Wall before and wondered at the sacrifice. This year our friends from the Canadian Vietnam Veterans Association are bringing down the Canadian Moving Wall. I was personally stunned to learn that 121 Canadians enlisted in the US Military and made the ultimate sacrifice. How they must have felt watching the draft dodgers going the other way to Canada as they were coming to America to enlist.
  9. here's a few interesting facts about the rolling wall, thought maybe you would enjoy knowing, steve , A little history most people will never know. Interesting Veterans Statistics off the Vietnam Memorial Wall There are 58,267 names now listed on that polished black wall, including those added in 2010. The names are arranged in the order in which they were taken from us by date and within each date the names are alphabetized. It is hard to believe it is 36 years since the last casualties. The first known casualty was Richard B. Fitzgibbon, of North Weymouth , Mass. Listed by the U.S. Department of Defense as having been killed on June 8, 1956. His name is listed on the Wall with that of his son, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Richard B. Fitzgibbon III, who was killed on Sept. 7, 1965. There are three sets of fathers and sons on the Wall. 39,996 on the Wall were just 22 or younger. 8,283 were just 19 years old. The largest age group, 33,103 were 18 years old. 12 soldiers on the Wall were 17 years old. 5 soldiers on the Wall were 16 years old. One soldier, PFC Dan Bullock was 15 years old. 997 soldiers were killed on their first day in Vietnam .. 1,448 soldiers were killed on their last day in Vietnam .. 31 sets of brothers are on the Wall. Thirty one sets of parents lost two of their sons. 54 soldiers attended Thomas Edison High School in Philadelphia . I wonder why so many from one school. 8 Women are on the Wall. Nursing the wounded. 244 soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Vietnam War; 153 of them are on the Wall. Beallsville , Ohio with a population of 475 lost 6 of her sons. West Virginia had the highest casualty rate per capita in the nation. There are 711 West Virginians on the Wall. The Marines of Morenci - They led some of the scrappiest high school football and basketball teams that the little Arizona copper town of Morenci (pop. 5,058) had ever known and cheered. They enjoyed roaring beer busts. In quieter moments, they rode horses along the Coronado Trail, stalked deer in the Apache National Forest . And in the patriotic camaraderie typical of Morenci's mining families, the nine graduates of Morenci High enlisted as a group in the Marine Corps. Their service began on Independence Day, 1966. Only 3 returned home. The Buddies of Midvale - LeRoy Tafoya, Jimmy Martinez, Tom Gonzales were all boyhood friends and lived on three consecutive streets in Midvale, Utah on Fifth, Sixth and Seventh avenues. They lived only a few yards apart. They played ball at the adjacent sandlot ball field. And they all went to Vietnam . In a span of 16 dark days in late 1967, all three would be killed. LeRoy was killed on Wednesday, Nov. 22, the fourth anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination. Jimmy died less than 24 hours later on Thanksgiving Day. Tom was shot dead assaulting the enemy on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The most casualty deaths for a single day was on January 31, 1968 ~ 245 deaths. The most casualty deaths for a single month was May 1968 - 2,415 casualties were incurred. For most Americans who read this they will only see the numbers that the Vietnam War created. To those of us who survived the war, and to the families of those who did not, we see the faces, we feel the pain that these numbers created. We are, until we too pass away, haunted with these numbers, because they were our friends, fathers, husbands, wives, sons and daughters. There are no noble wars, just noble warriors. Please pass this on to those who served during this time, and those who DO Care.
  10. One of a different kind...the escorting of the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall. I have never had the opportunity to see it, and to participate of the escorting of it is truly an honor. According to the internet site, the Wall will be at Lackland AFB thru Friday...I really cannot understand why it will not be at the Gateway to the Air Force over the weekend, but, I guess it is what it is.
  11. See Picture So as the drain pipe comes down the main floor wall from the sink area, it has to make a inward jog so the pip can come inside and down the cement wall into the basement. The leak is all along the circurmfrance of the long verticle basement pipe where it fits inside curved pipe. So what is the best way of fixing it?
  12. Before I tear the basement wall appart, sure would appreciate some plumbing and subflooring insite for I've no building experience. While remodeling my basement I discover a plumbing leak in a basement bedroom. The leak at first appeared to be near the clean out but after some investigation the leak is coming from way above the cleanout. The concrete wall is 66 feet long and it is about 3 feet from the corner of the side wall. Above the leak on the main floor the kitchen sink/ garbge disposal /dishwasher is there. I've ran the washer machine and while in the drain cycle it uses different plumbing about 12 feet away on the side wall of the house. That then leaves the kitchen sink/ garbge disposal /dishwasher for they are right above the plumbing leak. Now this last summer I put in new engineered wood floor on the main part of the house above the basement. I cut the nonollieum up to the kitchen cabnette and left nonollieum under the dishwasher. The refriderater does have water and ice. I therefore did not disturb anything 2 feet from the wall. I first ran water into the sink and after some time no leak found. Then I ran the dishwasher and during the drain cycle that is when the leak was found. Then when I add the sink water with the dishwasher the leak is worst. I've added 2 pictures. Now the house is about 24 years old and it was my custom built home. The basement stood unfinished and unstudded for about 3 years and the leak was not there when the basment was finished 3 years later. Could it be as simple as maybe pouring something down the drain so the chemical can find it way into the leak and fuse it together. OR Is the only thing to do is to just open the wall up and then go from there? Thanks for your advise.
  13. This is my Christmas gift to myself it folds up neatly and can be stored agains the wall.
  14. Viet Nam Veteran Statistics A little history most people will never know. Interesting Veterans Statistics off the Vietnam Memorial Wall "Carved on these walls is the story of America , of a continuing quest to preserve both Democracy and decency, and to protect a national treasure that we call the American dream." ~President George Bush SOMETHING to think about - Most of the surviving Parents are now Deceased. There are 58,267 names now listed on that polished black wall, including those added in 2010. The names are arranged in the order in which they were taken from us by date and within each date the names are alphabetized. It is hard to believe it is 36 years since the last casualties. Beginning at the apex on panel 1E and going out to the end of the East wall, appearing to recede into the earth (numbered 70E - May 25, 1968), then resuming at the end of the West wall, as the wall emerges from the earth (numbered 70W - continuing May 25, 1968) and ending with a date in 1975. Thus the war's beginning and end meet. The war is complete, coming full circle, yet broken by the earth that bounds the angle's open side and contained within the earth itself. The first known casualty was Richard B. Fitzgibbon, of North Weymouth , Mass. Listed by the U.S. Department of Defense as having been killed on June 8, 1956. 15. I have to replace the cable that sits on top of the gas tank (CB/Headset cable). When installing the driving lights I noticed the cable was frayed so at the time I just tucked it up under the cover on the gas tank as I don't usually use the CB. Does anyone know what cable this is called as I have talked to the people at Pin Wall and they are not sure which cable I need. I noticed some call them intercom cables and some say it is a CB cable. They have a bunch listed on ebay. I would like to know which is the proper cable so I don't order the wrong one. Possibly someone on here could look at Pin Wall site or ebay site and send me a link or ebay number. Thanks in advance Dana
  16. Any A/C experts? Our 14year old Friedrich giant wall AC crapped out last night, or so we think. It sounded like the compressor shut off. The fan was still running. Nothing i did could get the compressor back on. The filter was packed clogged though. Gave up, went to sleep. Today, no power. Main breaker tripped. Put that back on and the unit turns on and now the compressors back on. However, for 10 mins, foamy looking water was pouring out of the rear of the unit. This stopped and all seems ok. although the air doesnt seem as cool as it was, its not getting warmer after being back on for 2hours so far. Anyone have an idea what happaned here?
  17. Sniped my first Ebay Auction tonight. After losing out by several dollars the last 2 times I figured out the system and with just seconds to go I pulled the trigger and gave it a nice head shot. Its an aluminum wall piece with patterns cut into it with a grinder. This guy, Jon Allen, makes some real nice stuff. Not bad for 61 bucks. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Modern-Abstract-Metal-Wall-Art-Contemporary-Sculpture-/00/$%28KGrHqN,%21jkE3LlE-htKBOJh6MZg2%21%7E%7E0_1.JPG
  18. I had the bike up on the center stand while working on installing the trailer hitch. The bike is in a little 8x10 storage shed. It has to stay on the side stand in order to fit in the shed. I just backed it up a foot or so an put it on the center stand to work on it. At this point the back end of the bike is sticking out the door. So when I was done working for the night and went to put it back in the shed, I rocked it forward to drop off the center stand, ready to grab the front brake to not continue forward thru the wall, it cam down off of the center stand hard like it always does but this time I had not raised the side stand first..... I bet you see where this is going...... Yup as it plopped down the anti dive did not work cuz the ignition was off, there was still no air in either the front or rear suspension from winter storrage, and it tried to drop really low, but instead it landed on the side stand and caused the bike to lean hard and fast to the right. Did I mention that the right side of the bike is the side up against the wall????? Well it is. It took everything that I had to hold the bike up and not let it tip over and land against the wall, if it had leaned another millimeter, I don't think I could have stopped it. So the moral is, from now on make sure the side stand is up when dropping off the center stand.

  21. I have two questions concerning the Run For The Wall. First: How many have heard of Run For The Wall? Second: How many are going to go with me next year, 2011? Last year I only saw one Venture and about 4 Road Stars. This year there will be one less R* ,mine, and one more RSV, mine. It would be nice to see a whole contingent of Road Stars and Royal Stars. RFTW really is a great ride and the experiences are irreplaceable. All motorcycles are welcome as well as non-vets. For the west coast rider you will end up on the east coast just in time for the Maintenance Day in Oberlin. The web site is RFTW.ORG. Give it a look see and see if you can fit it into your schedule.
  22. This was sent to my by a 'nam buddy. Thought I would share it with the other vets here. http://www.virtualwall.org/iStates.htm This may also be of interest to our Canadian members. There are 58 Canadians listed on the wall. For those that may not know it, there were over 40,000 Canadians who served with the US Forces in Vietnam. Almost made up for the 50,000 Americans that went to Canada to avoid the draft.
  23. Brenda's son went to helen Ga, and like it there, so we had to go too. first let me say that Labor Day weekend is not the time to do this as we ran in to bumper to bumper stop and go traffic for the last couple of miles and wall to wall people. Anywhichway, it was a great day with great temperatures and beautiful roads to ride on. We left around 1130 and got back at about 6 with a very tasty bratwurst sandwich at "pies and pints" for lunch. Even saw another MkI (brown) on the other side of the street a bit further down along with about 8-10 other bikes at another establishment (proly drinking lemonade:rotfl:). Earl, you said to think of you if we went out riding and I did just that quite a few times, wish you could have been there in person. Get well soon and maybe we'll get to ride together for real one day. God bless! this is the route we wound up taking, 185 miles and 5 hrs. plus stops. http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.com/rideplanner/ridePlanner.jsp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US
