My PC was fine and dandy on Thursday PM. I go on Friday AM and my desktop only had the wallpaper and one icon, the recycle bin. START, PROGRAMS,,,, none found. Windows Explorer,, no user files, programs unuseable. Cutting to the chase, the files are there but Icons and program listings are gone. Files (pictures, documents and such) are found, but not in folders. I do have a newer AV program in use, WebRoot (Essentials, a cloud AV product. been ok for months). So, my son, who is more current on PC installs, is working on restore. Said it's pretty nasty. There are several IT pro's here. Do you know what virus took me down? I have googled for info, found some info, but no one says what the virus is. Anyone know this one,,, and how to avoid it. Thanks, Mike G.

Anyone else see these? I don't see them on other threads. Also, a few days ago I noticed a round image of some kind infesting many posts. Just wondering what this stuff is. I'm on my new iPad, so, I'm pretty sure it's not a virus on my end.

Our internet provider just called and said our upload activity had spiked since 11:00am and asked if we were doing anything different. We asked what would cause this as we are just doing business as usual. He said it could be a virus. Anyone know what might cause this and how would you find out what is causing this?

While at work earlier this morning I went on the "Pics from Asheville" site and opened the photobucket URL. I immediately got a Trojan virus warning and a box about some spyware that I could not turn off. I rebooted and it did not help. I then did the free scan thing and was told I would have to purchase the anti-spyware program. When I finally got that box off and rebooted, I could not get on the internet or our company intranet. I had to call the IT department and have them go thru it. I did try our Malware program and it did not help. but with their updated program, IT was able to fix it. I have no idea what happened as it is obvious others were able to open the site. RandyA

Got a question for the geeks, I have been using Grisoft AVG anti virus, the free version, for a couple of years now. All of a sudden I get a virus, that now we can't get online with either the laptop or the home computer. Convienently it will go to AV's website and allow me to buy their anti virus. Now I believe that AV has something to do with this, I'm not that into computers, but it's too much of a coincidence that their website is the only one I can get to. 2 questions 1) Has anyone been having this problem with AVG free anti virus 2) Who uses what as far as anti virus programs, mind you I cant get online to download one onto my computer. I wont use Mcafee as I have used them in the past and been screwed. Norton isn't a popular option with me either unless someone can really give me a very good solid reason to use it. Any help is appreciated, my cell # is in my profile as until I get this fixed I can't get online from home.

Subject: Fwd: Fw: [GBRTK9] Fw: Virus coming!! READ ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to all your contacts ASAP. PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardles s of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C drive of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address on his/her contact list. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it! If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even if it is sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

I googled how to split the fairing and one of the results was at "venturer.org" when I clicked on it my virus checker stopped me saying that entrance could damage my computer...what's the buzz?
-
Im not looking to start a flaming war or anything. This is just being posted as a precaution. I went to the Venturers website to check on a tech link before and was immediately hit with a Trojan virus. Now I know that the site has been the victim of several malicious virus attacks in recent months and I was hoping the issue was resolved. It obviously is not the case. My McAfee system caught it and contained it immediately. Again, its just a warning to be careful.......

Anyone have any knowledge about a malware called anti virus pro? I started my computer at the office this morning and this program came up and said it was scanning for a virus. This is a scam. I turned off my computer and restarted. This program opens up and starts scanning. It has disabled all of my programs. I can't run any of the malware programs. This happened with another program before and a google search had blogs from people all over the US that had this problem and one guy had a detailed report on which files to delete from the registry. I did that and got rid of the program. This one is tough and there isn't any info on the web. I found the program but can't get it out of my computer because it has locked out all the other programs. Anyone know anything about this program or how to get it out? I am shut down.

Here's my problem & I know some of you guys here really know your stuff. Hopefully you can steer me in the right direction. My wifes computer has a virus. I thought I had it all gone, but apparently not. I ran avg and it flagged a trojan. I guess it could not get rid of it. I have tried to run malwarebytes, but the virus has disabled that program. Same thing for Norton. As far as I can tell at this point (been working on it all morning) I can open any web site including foxnews, google, etc. The problem is that when I try to use the search function from google or any for that matter, the virus will not allow me to place a cursor in the search box. I can place a cursor in the address bar no problem, just not in the search box. Malicious little buggers they are! I'd like to get my hands on one of these guys just once. Oh by the way, I tried to uninstall/reinstall malwarebytes, but it still disabled it at reinstall. Any help anyone may be able to give me would really be appreciated. It's an old computer, but we just can't afford to replace it right now. Thanks,

With Christmas fast approaching, watch out for this...be alert.. The newest virus circulating is the UPS Delivery Failure (there’s a FedEx version too). You will receive an email from UPS Packet Service along with a packet number. NOTE: The word packet is misspelled on this line. It will say that they were unable to deliver a package sent to you on such and such a date. It then asks you to print out the invoice copy attached. DON'T TRY TO PRINT THIS. IT LAUNCHES THE VIRUS! Pass this warning on to all your PC operators at work and home. Snopes confirms that it is real: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/ups.asp

I have a Dell diminsion 2400. I am running windows XP sp2. I have IE and Msn Explorers. I had a virus called anti virus xp 2008 to install itself on here, I uninstalled the program before I even knew it was a virus and the next day a virus called anti virus 2008 try to install itself. I was doing a search and 5 more tried to install. I stopped the downloads. My icons keeps disappearing every 5 or 6 seconds and reappears every 3 or 4 seconds,.The only thing I can get to stay up is IE and MSN. My Pc has been locked from recieving any updates and I cannot access any websites that has Anti Viruses downloads. If I try to access any anti Virus websites it fails to detect that I am connected. I had AVG anti virus installed and the updates to it were blocked out. If I try to do any searches it does not take me to the search that I type in or it takes me to the search pages but when I clicked on one of the links, urls another virus trys to install itself. This morning it was Vista 2008. Its probally the same virus just different names. I am unable to download anything at all. This is Pat (aka) warden. I suggested to Yammer that we redo windows xp and start all over with a clean Pc and get all the JUNK cleaned out from years past. But he insisted on me posting this so here it is. GO ahead tell him how right I am.

Just received this................. You can read about it on www.snopes.com Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report' If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'. PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY! THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/mailserver.asp
