Need new tires. So whats the latest word on the Avon Venoms? Cracking fixed? Stay away? Would be buying the new Michelin Commanders if they made a front that fit, not interested in running a narrower size. Thanks in advance for any input. Ross

Brought my beast in yesterday for the spring service. I'm planning a road trip next month and when we looked it over the service guy and I agreed the the stock rear (11000km) was looking a bit iffy for a long run. He had a pair of venoms in stock, and I said "Sure, why not." When I picked it up that afternoon I took it for a run to get the 'new' off the tires. OMG! I've never been willing to push the beast hard because it felt heavy in the turns, a little squirelly. Within 10 minutes I was taking lean angles I'd never dared with it before and the thing was running like it was on rails. I actually managed to touch a floorboard to the road. Felt like the v-star 950 I traded in for it... It's a completely different bike. I know I've restarted the tire brand debate, but I had to say it.... I'm REALLY impressed with the venoms. I'll let you know how the durability works out, but the first impression is amazing.

Gentlemen I just had to crow a little and tell someone ( at least someone who will appreciate it ) what I found this week. A 1989 Venture Royale with 2075 miles. Of course I was turning flips when I heard about it, being the kind of guy that I am. I already owned an 86 with 32K, but when I heard about this one...I had to have it. I won't brag about the price but I almost stole it. Now for the questions: 1) It still has the original Brickstones on and I plan to buy either Avon Venoms or Dunlop E-3s. I have the venoms now but I'm not crazy about the weathering and checking on the sidewalls. Do the E-3s have the weathering problems like the Venoms? 2) I just ordered a set of progressive springs and I plan on installing them ASAP. Compared to my 86, this thing bottoms out way too fast. Would there be anything else you guys would do to the suspension to make it more enjoyable/driveable? 3)Anybody interested in a nice 86 with 32K and fresh paint ? 4)What else would you do to a basically new bike with 22 year old parts? All help would be greatly appreciated Ken ( stuck on stupid )

I have MT 90 B 16 wide white walls Avon Venoms on my 2000 MM Venture. Need to get new tires. I know that some guys use the more narrow tires than the spec. My previous bike was a Gen 1 with Metzler 880s. I thought that thing handled great. I love the look of this bike but it has never felt like it handled as well. What is the performance difference between the more narrow tire vs the stock tire? I have heard many people saying great things about these Venoms. My tire shop said they dont make the rear any more. Is that accurate? Thanks, Bob

I have had Venoms on my RSV for about 7k miles. I maintain them well and there is plenty of tread front and back. I rarely ride in the rain but yesterday morning the roads were still wet from some overnight rain. I turned left at a stop light and came oh-so-close to laying her down. It wasn't just this one time but it seems to get very squirrelly on wet roads. I love them on dry roads but I think when I put new shoes on her next time I need to go a different route.

Hi all: What is the specific number of the Elite 3 rear tire that should be used on the 2007 Venture. Looking on line there appears to be only one (MV85HB15). Is that the one? I am running Avons Venoms at present and I know when I ordered it I had to specify which model as there was more than one that would fit Thanks for the help. JR

I've been running Avon Venoms for the last 3-4 years on the '83VR and they were great when it comes to handling. It's just the sidewall cracking issue that bothered me. No complaint about Avon's replacement policy. Anyway, because of some good feedback on this board, I decided to put a set of Elite III's on the '99RSV. I'm still running Avons on the '91VR, but figured the '99 will be a long range tourer, and I don't want to deal with possible cracking while out in the boonies. Besides all of the 1stGens I own, for the most part, came with EII's, and.. IMO... are as tough as nails. If the EIII's give the same results I'll be a happy camper. The EIII's also have a tread pattern that's very similar to the Venoms. So I went ahead and picked up the EIII's from Jake Wilson online. Another set of Venoms, with their $50 buck rebate would have been cheaper by $20 bucks. The EIII's ran $221 on my doorstep, and the Venoms would have run me $240. Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike rebates....

So, with a little over 400 miles on a pair of new Avon Venoms, I gotta say...WOW! Huge improvement over the stock tires. Quieter, smoother ride especially at highway speeds. As most Venom owners state, these tires seem to improve slow speed handling, almost makes the bike feel "less top-heavy". Did I mention that I really like these tires"??

Well just arrived home from a shorty trip of around 30 mile or so, on my new Avon Venoms (front and back). Man I really love these tires. Thanks to everyone for your help and replies about the tires. I tried them out on the two lanes here (US 60) about 12 mile, and then hit the big road (I-64). Fastest ever had her since purchase, around 105 mph, SSSMMMMOOOOTTTHHH as silk. Very good tires. The stalk Brickstones had 4000 miles on them, run back tire low on air for about 120 mile or so and it is almost completely worn out in center. I was having a knee problem (had to have surgery) and didn't relise the tire was that low, wanted to check but knee would not let me. I usually keep a good check on my tires. But I think it worked out best for me anyway. I really like those Venoms. Bike handles so much better at all speeds and conditions. Just got to get them skuffed in now. I did the complete tire change myself, with a little help from a friend and you all. I did all the grease on splines and changed differintial grease for the second time, just because it was so handy. I took the tires on wheels to a shop and he computer balanced them for me for $15.00 a piece. The back tire, after removed the weights from factory, did not even have to have any weight, perfect. The front had to have just 3/4 once. I have a question for those that have changed there own tires. Do the Venoms have a paint mark to go by ? I could not find any kind of valve mark. And what about when it comes time to change again, just put back the same ? I love my Laran jack. once again , thanks to all.

I put new avon venoms on my scoot and I find they feel a little slippery in the corners, almost like riding on a wet road. Has anyone else experienced this. Is it because the tires are new and not scuffed in yet? because the temp are cooler and they dont like cool weather? Or did they change to a harder compound ? At this point i really wish I had my dunlop elite II's back on the bike.

Has or is anyone using nitrogen in their bike tires. I've used it in my truck tires on my silverado and it's great and wanted to know about using nitrogen in my avon venoms. Bob http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/5/5_2_110.gif http://www.smileycentral.com/sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb112&pp=ZNxmk393BBUS
