If you are setting on the right side of the bike on a stool and you are changing the plugs in the front right head and if you look in there you will see a little tube that comes up next to the plug (towards the inside of the motor) it runs down and then into the head . Looks like it could or should maybe have a small vacum line or something hooked to it. Should it? What is it for? Anyone know?

I have had for 15+ years a mercury sync stick. Lately during sync's on my venture, I have noticed a 'clear' substance, of different amounts, rises in the tubes above the mercury, and got me wondering when I sync'd, lineing up the mercury line, if I was really in true sync-ie:is the clear substance changing the vacum level imposted on the mecury? So today I decided to check calibration, went to fish store an got 5 way hose adapter, and applied vacum with pump up mityvac. My mercury lines are off a little +-.5", but more interesting, I had to apply continous vacum, as vacum bleed off fast, and was unable to hole mercury at a constant level to be sure where mercury was really at. Considering opening mercury tank and removing the clear substance, and vacum test all the lines/tubes. Q. Is it normal for sync sticks to bleed vacum? Supposedly thru the liquid mercury pool

When I pull in clutch on my new to me 86 it wants to rev and then drop back down. It will go up about 1k quickly and then drop back down but not as fast as it should. Hasn't been wanting to idle. Have to choke it to keep it running most of the time. Thought I just had some crud in it. Don't think this is related to reving. Sea-foam and it will idle now most of the time when it is warmed up. Sound like vacum leak? I couldn't find one but didn't spend lot of time looking was busy putting back shifter that fell off.

just finished clean and rebuild carbs 83 xvz12t, all new gaskets and orings, started rough but smoothed out when warm. during sync 1&2 come together good, 3&4 close but wont stabalize with each other. 3&4 much higher vacum than 1&2, and while trying to bring together, idle gets to low, and have maxed out idle adjust up to screw limit also notice that vacum sliders in bores 1&2 respone well, and vibrate with idle vacum. 4 barely vibrates at idle, but starts to open with throttle, 3 doesn't even start to open until even more throttle. rubbers diaphrams had no holes during cleaning any suggestions short of carb removal and teardown again history, got this bike 3 months ago in very rough shape-planned winter project. all kinds electrical problems-fixed, carbs and gas tank seriously coated in rust-tank cleaned, repaired and por15'd did i miss a vacum jet in carbs 3&4? which jet and can i spray carb cleaner stiil onbike? thanks for any input brian

Well the bike will be sent to the dealer at Sumter to fix the vacum leak under warranty. Fixed the helmet speakers on Wanderer's helmet too. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Mini%20MD%2020090613/

O K Carb guys when did Yamaha move the Ignition Vacum from the #1 carb I think it is and where did they move it to?? What else is different about thesse carbs. I got a set from E-Bay claimed they were 83 but no vacum line nipple on this one. Again without a nipple is it useless?? (couldn't resist) Useless for my 83 I mean..

With out a nipple are they useless ( couldn't resist) What else is different on them? They looked the same didn't really check that close when I got them.
