A utopia back rest. Need Black studded if anyone has one or hears of one. Thanks Rick

Installed my Utopia backrest yesterday evening. I have to say that it is comfortable and is well made. Reviews on this site prompted me to order it and that I'm happy that I did. Thanks

I had a chance to ride two up this weekend since I upgraded my clutch with kit from Skydoc. I synced my carbs with a vacuummate using the procedure I found on this site. My bike is running great now. Had a small backfire when decelerating. I found a set of factory pipes with tips that I put back on the bike. I think it had Highway hawks on it although I could find no markings on them. Sounding like my bike was over taching when going down the interstate at 80. Now it just purrs along. Ordered a Utopia backrest today after reading about them on here. Best 12 bucks I've spent.

I finally decided to buy the Utopia Backrest for my 06, and it is a quality product to say the least. It adjusts backwards, forwards, and up and down. It has one engineering flaw in my humble opinion---the tube presses so hard into the passenger pillion that it actually distorts its shape. They provide a protective shield to keep it from tearing the seat, but it still distorts the shape. The comfort level is very good. My stock seat is still uncomfortable, but I am looking at a pad by Butt Buffer and Comfort Max. Anyone have either of those? Anyway, its another step towards more comfort on the longer rides. Jim:)

I just recived my new backrest from Utopia and I'm just a bit concerned about the measurement back . They say 1 1/2" from the front of the molded drivers bucket. When I hold this in a dry fit it just looks off . Has anyone installed this backrest on a !st gen and is that right? thanks you all.Bill

I am looking for a Utopia studded backrest for my 2004 Midnite Venture. I have a Utopia backrest on the bike right now in new condition but it is the plain style and doesn't match the seat. Just out of curiosity, does anyone have one they want to part with or trade for the one I have. I can send pics if you need more info.

Anybody here have the Utopia backrest for their 1st. gen? How do you like them? Do they adjust forward and back? Is there room for a passenger with it installed? Is it easy to take off when you need to? I have the type with the brackets mounted to where the helmet locks are on the MKI. There's very little room for my better half so I take it off when she wants to ride, but then the brackets make the insides of her knees sore. Plus the Utopis rest looks so much simpler too. Thanks, Bill

I just wanted to say thank you to utopia as well as everyone else who posted input about drivers backrests. Because of the input, I recently purchased a new drivers backrest for my 2005 RSTD. Installation was very easy. I did drill out the holes a bit larger. The backrest is very comfortable, I put on 1000 miles last week to and from Sturgis SD last week. Highly reccommend!!!!

I have a mustang seat (both front and back) on my 2008 RSTD. Now I'm kicking myself for not getting the back rest. I know Utopia makes one but I don't think they'll fit anything except the stock seat. Does anyone know if the Utopia will work with the Mustang seat? or where I can buy a drivers seat back rest to add on? I sure hate to spend another 3 or 4 hundred bucks to get the seat and the rest when all I need is the rest. bjstone

Based on the recommendation of some here, I installed a Utopia backrest on my '06 Midnight Venture. The install couldn't be easier and what a tremendous difference, no backstrain or tension. Also, no more slouching and hurting my bad back. If you need a backrest, Utopia has m vote.

I need to get a backrest. After doing a search, it appears to be a draw between the Diamond R and the Utopia with everyone being happy with their choice. I'm leaning toward the Utopia because it's $41 cheaper. Is there a reason other than them being a sponser of this board, that I should fork over more for the Diamond R backrest? Thanks for any advice.

Hello Everyone: I'm the new guy on the block here I suppose. On Saturday I picked up my "new to me" 2006 RSTD. After putting on around 600 miles so far with my wife on the back, the stock seat just might be ok. After much moving around I seemed to find a sweet spot that wasn't torturing my tail bone. Anyway, here's my question (finally). I put a Utopia backrest on our 98 goldwing and my wife found that it really restricted her room on the back so does anybody have any input as to how their wife feels with the Utopia on the bike. Thanks in advance for your advice and input. Greg

Utopia Driver Backrest
Rick Butler posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hey Guys, Will a Utopia backrest for a RSV not work on a RSTD? I just assumed that since they both have the same frame design and basic seat fitment, that they mounted the same. However in looking at their installation information, it appears that the backrest attaches to the bottom of the passenger seat. I think I may have advised someone wrongly, so I need some info fast. Thanks, Rick -
I just listed a Utopia studded backrest for sale in the classifieds if anyone is looking for one.

Well, I took off today and drove 575 miles and I am so very pleased with the Utopia backrest. I am not doing a commercial, but I have to tell you, it was worth the wait!! Just thought some of you might be interested. Keep it tween the ditches! Sky Pilot

Ok, it is time to buy a backrest. I need your help. Diamond Accessories or Utopia? In the picture they look almost the same. Either one looks like it would match the stock seat. I know how the Utopia mounts but not the Diamond Acc. I think they both fold for access to the passenger seat. Can they be easily removed without hardware sticking out in between the seats? Can they be pretty much universally adjusted, and more important, will they stay there? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have the complete Ultimate set up for my 97 RSTD. Every once in a while I like to have just a solo look. With the Ultimate set up, the driver uses the backrest that is part of the passenger seat. So, I got hold of Bob at Utopia to find out if his backrest would work with the drivers Ultimate seat. He wasn't sure but sent me the bar to find out (at no charge mind you). Well, the bar fit so I ordered the rest of the backrest. Now, going solo with the Utopia backrest and the Ultimate drivers seat is nothing short of sweet. However, I discovered that you cannot use the passenger seat (minus the Ultimate drivers backrest) with the Utopia backrest as the seat cannot be pushed forward enough to get the rear bolt in. No biggie...use the Utopia baackrest pad with the Ultimate bar. So with this ability to have a mix and match combination you end up with the best of both worlds. Pretty cool! For my comfort I prefer the larger Utopia backrest pad, although the Ultimate backrest is certainly an excellent product. Andy
