  1. We have a family gathering at a sister-in law's condo today, about a 15 minute drive. 8:05 AM, I ask my wife, "What time are we due at Cindy's?" The answer----hang on, here it comes---- "We can't go until the potatoes are done." Now, I'm 75 years old, on my second and last marriage. I've been getting answers similar to this from the both of 'em since 1964. All this experience and I still do not understand the logic of our precious ladies. HELP!
  2. Iowa Guy

    Beretta

I have a Beretta 84F 380. Its a nice little piece except for one thing. After I have shot about a hundred rounds, the safety will not come back on. I have tried cleaning and soaking but nothing seems to help. Are there some good web sights I could go to that would help me understand what to do? Otherwise my next step is a gun smith. Iowa Guy
  3. Not sure why there is one on the bike. I hate hitting it while riding and would love to disarm it. is there a way to do this? I can understand more so on maybe an ATV or something. but why on the venture? please make me understand this . If you crash/fall off or something , why couldn't you just turn the key off? I myself would love to just disable it. has anybody done this ? Darn thing is just in my way. seems about as useless as the cassette player. thanks, Jeff
  4. I've rejected the need for an Ipad for a long time now but Dano sent me this video and now I finally understand that they DO have a purpose. I still think that there are cheaper alternatives but at least I understand. http://www.snotr.com/video/8965/
  5. My beloved Wifey does not like the current seat (Mustang) on my 2007 RSTD. I understand that the Ultimate Seat is, well, the ultimate. So, anyone care to weigh in on this?
  6. I am new to the forum and have already learned a great deal. Thanks for all the great suggestions and ideas. I look forward to meeting new friends thanks to a good friend of mine who introduced me to this forum. Thanks KIC I bought my "83" Venture back in October 2011 with only 5,400 miles and it now has 7,400. It's a great ride. I understand she's known on the forum as a 1st gen. Sorry 2nd gen'ers...lol Haha, had to say that... Just kidding... Thanks again and great riding...
  7. Hi all, I'm posting this question because I haven't been able to find a previous discussion on the matter, but can't believe there hasent been one. So redirect if such a discussion exists. I'm trying to find out, outside of color changes, what changes if any have occured for the Royal Venture from 1999 to the current 2012. I understand there was a seat change in 2001. Is there a tech bulletin that describes all the minor changes throught those years? Thanks!
  8. I want to be able to use my GPS ( BT paired with phone) and XM at the same time. I understand from reading previous post there is a limitation when more than one device on the "AUX"...I see where some have used an inline amp which will correct this issue. The question- I want to be able to use the CB radio also- I understand that you can use a mic-splitting cable (Buddy Rich Cable)- to interface with the GPS-however will this setup work ? GPS with BR cable ( to allow for phone functionality) - XM- connected to the inline amp. Will you be able to use the CB radio with full functionality ? I am thinking this may be a reach, but if you do not ask. You will never know. Thanks..... 09 Venture
  9. Hello, I disassembled and cleaned out the carbs last weekend per the service manual. To make sure I didn't miss something, I've been going through the forum threads and articles. "mbrood" did a Carb Overhaul write-up in Tech section. In the 3rd to last paragraph he talks about the "The factory-set needle-valve screw..." The problem is, I have no idea what he's talking about. I'm concerned that I screwed in something too tight and ruined the needle valve now. Everything I unscrewed was TIGHT, so I put them back normal tight. I understand the needle valve and float relationship. He talks about a spring loaded screw for adjusting fuel flow. I don't understand what screw he's talking about. Can you guys help? Any references in the manual pages/pictures/ID numbers would really help. Regarding float level, it never dawned on me to check or adjust for this change. I understand the principle of putting fuel in the carb and letting the float rise up to shut off flow. I don't understand (1) why fuel level is so critical in the bowl (I thought it just had to have enough fuel in there to be able to maintain flow... assuming more was better) and (2) how to know where the float is at shutoff point when the bowl cover has to be on in order to fill the bowl. How do you get the float to remain stationary so you can check it's position? I read Squidley's recent thread on float level, and understand what he's measuring, but what has to happen at that level - start compressing the float needle valve spring? Or just making contact with the float needle valve? I'm (obviously) very new to carb work and appreciate your time and input. I'm anxious to learn though Many thanks in advance!
  10. Just so you all know, we are getting HAMMERED with spammers right now. Over the past 3 days, there have been around 150 attempts by spammers to join our site and post their crap. Only 3 of them have succeeded in actually getting by the protections that I have in place and I caught and deleted 2 of those before they ever managed to make a post here. One did manage two posts before I caught and banned him. It's a never ending battle. I honestly don't understand what they hope to accomplish. First of all, even if they manage to register, it will be a very short lived experience for them. Second of all, do they not understand that NOBODY is willing to do business with a spammer? Even if they have a good price on a decent product, I would never give them a dime of my money.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSRVqsx9nG0&feature=youtu.be A co-worker made this and posted it on YouTube. If your a Jaguars fan you will understand it. Gene Smith is our general manager. Still funny as hell.
  12. Would any of you happen to have one of these coupons that you want to part with? I understand that they were in some motorcycle magazines. I would sure like to have one.
  13. Here's a question to everyone I've been trying to reason out in my head for quite some time... When you compare the RSTD or RSV 1300's to other types of bikes with v-twins that are said to have 1300 or higher cc's, what are we really comparing. I understand what 1300 means, just like I understand what 1700 means - but when you include the fact that the RSTD's and RSV's are 4 cylinder engines, what difference does that make? Should I feel uncomfortable talking about the power of my bike with a buddy who has a 1700cc or with another friend that has a 96ci? Are we talking about tourqe or horsepower or both or what? I would really like to have some ammunition in my back pocket so I can fire back at them when they say my bike is ONLY 1300cc's. My RSTD has their bikes beat on comfort but what about performance. What are everyones thoughts? I hope my question makes sense.
  14. I gave up on buying a used venture and got a new Victory Vision today. Just got tired of all the bs dealing with sellers who dont want to be straight up . Anyway I got the bike that impressed me the most , and 3 years of payments to go with it. Thanks to everyone on this site for the tips. Please understand Im not in any way kicking on Ventures , its just that for a little more money for new vs. new I think the Vision is the best for me. Now Ive got to go to the roadstar forum and say goodbye to some more great folks.
  15. First condolences to the Women's friends and family but how fast do you have to be going to flip a pick up truck. On the news they said the bike was torn in half. Just can't understand why some people have to ride so fast and especially in urban streets. http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.ssf/2011/06/burton_woman_killed_in_flint_c.html
  16. At one point during a game, the coach called one of his 9-year-old baseball players aside and asked, "Do you understand what cooperation is?" What a team is?" The little boy nodded in the affirmative. "Do you understand that what matters is whether we win or lose together as a team?" The little boy nodded "yes." So the coach continued. "I'm sure you know, when an out is called, you shouldn't argue, curse, attack the umpire, or call him a pecker-heard, D***head or a**hole. Do you understand all that? The little boy nodded "yes" again. He continued, "And when I take you out of the game so another boy gets a chance to play, it's not good sportsmanship to call your coach "a dumb a** or S**t head" is it?" The little boy shook his head "No." "GOOD," said the coach. "Now go over there and explain all that to your grandmother."
  17. Mel

    Go dawgs!

Some of you will understand, some won't. If you don't, trust me, it doesn't matter.
  18. I understand these are very popular in Arizona right now. I think I want one.
  19. this option looks promising. I googled the parrot sk400 and got a lot of good reviews. http://wireless.1saleaday.com/ Of course there is a newer version of this also. The one on sale is the original from what I understand DAvid
  20. I'm watching Wild Hogs (again). It's an excellent movie that someone that hasn't completed a cross country motorcycle ride would not understand.
  21. I feel I have to apologize as I have let some members down in areas in which I had not meant to. These last few months, particularly, the last couple of weeks have been very bad for me and I am not able to get my head straight. As much as I hate to air my dirty laundry so to speak, Clare and I have gone our separate ways, and I am stuck in a hotel room in Beaumont, TX, far from home for the holidays. I have lost my best friend, my confidant, and a large piece of myself in the process. So, here I am in TX, licking my wounds and trying to heal. I will say that I brought a large part of this upon myself, and will forever be kicking myself for it. That being said, no cheating, beating, or anything of the sort. I am sorry to have laid this upon all of you, but I know longer have the strength to carry it on my own. I hope you understand, and those that I have made promises to, please understand as I ask your forgiveness. Rob Wynn
  22. Thanks, Don, for this. I love having this always on me (my phone). I do have a question as to the E, S, R in the first column. I understand Expired & Supporting, but, what does the R stand for?
  23. I ran into a 2008 Ford F350 Diesel that's coming up for auction. Did the usual research on value and feedback. The feedback is mixed. Anyone here running a F350 or F250 2008 or later?? I understand they had a problem with the radiator leaking, but anything else I should be aware of??
  24. Can someone who rides daily share their experience of the life span of these lights. I understand that they do light up the path really good, but the life span varies.
  25. This is why we don't like to talk to techies in other countries: I was recently in Miami and decided to learn the Spanish language, so I could understand the check-outs at McDonalds. My next move is to learn Indian, so I can understand my doctors and the person that answers the phone when I have a warranty problem. Yep, by the time I read this, I was able to understand the 1st line. "TENJOOBERRYMUDS"... In order to continue getting-by in America (our home land), we all need to learn the NEW English language! Practice by reading the following conversation until you are able to understand the term "TENJOOBERRYMUDS". With a little patience, you'll be able to fit right in. Now, here goes... The following is a telephone exchange between maybe you as a hotel guest and room-service somewhere in the good old U S A today....... Room Service : "Morrin. Roon sirbees." Guest : "Sorry, I thought I dialed room-service." Room Service: " Rye . Roon sirbees...morrin! Joowish to oddor sunteen???" Guest: "Uh..... Yes, I'd like to order bacon and eggs.." Room Service: "Ow July den?" Guest: ".....What??" Room Service: "Ow July den?!?... Pryed, boyud, poochd?" Guest: "Oh, the eggs! How do I like them? Sorry.. Scrambled, please." Room Service: "Ow July dee baykem? Crease?" Guest: "Crisp will be fine." Room Service: "Hokay. An Sahn toes?" Guest: "What?" Room Service: "An toes. July Sahn toes?" Guest: "I... Don't think so." RoomService: "No? Judo wan sahn toes???" Guest: "I feel really bad about this, but I don't know what 'judo wan sahn toes' means." RoomService: "Toes! Toes!...Why Joo don Juan toes? Ow bow Anglish moppin we bodder?" Guest: "Oh, English muffin!!! I've got it! You were saying 'toast'... Fine...Yes, an English muffin will be fine." RoomService: "We bodder?" Guest: "No, just put the bodder on the side." RoomService: "Wad?!?" Guest: "I mean butter... Just put the butter on the side." RoomService: "Copy?" Guest: "Excuse me?" RoomService: "Copy...tea..meel?" Guest: "Yes. Coffee, please... And that's everything." RoomService: "One Minnie. Scramah egg, crease baykem, Anglish moppin, we bodder on sigh and copy .... Rye ??" Guest: "Whatever you say.." RoomService: "Tenjooberrymuds."
