Went on a road trip through the NE corner of Pennsylvania last weekend. Stopped at a place near Titioute on Route 6 called Simpler Times museum. Happened on it by chance, found the door to be locked, with a sign "open by appointment or chance". Just then an old timer (88) stopped by in his truck and opened up. He lives just out back, so if it's closed you can probably get him to open up.....he loves to tell you about the history of the stuff inside. Mostly old cars, trucks, gas pumps, drilling equipment and tractors. He'll charge you $4 to enter, and it's money well spent. He has quite a collection in the 5 or 6 buildings on site. I particularly enjoyed the two ancient Mac Trucks he has. One of them is chain drive. My peeps and I were glad we stopped. If you're in the area, check it out.....you'll be glad you did.

I want to share a very close call I had as a reminder of the importance of getting past these transport trucks and not riding beside them. I always lag behind a truck for a bit then gun it to get past them very quickly so as not to be in there blind spot for long. Well, as I was passing this transport I was doing as I always do when a tire blew out from the truck. For what ever reason I had already moved further over to the left then I normally do. The tire literally exploaded forward, sideways and to the rear of the truck. I was fortunate enough to see the debris and swerve back towards the truck to fit inbetween the debris as I acceleated even faster to fit through the open air that I saw. Rubber went infront of my bike and just behind it. I was very lucky that I didn't slow down or I would have been knocked off my bike. I was lucky who knows what is best to do, slow down or speed up, it all depends on the circumstance. In any case I just wanted to air this to remind everyone to pay special attention and get as far away from the trucks when you are passing them. I'm going back on the highway this afternoon and riding to Niagara on the Lake for the night and I have to say I may not be passing too many trucks.

OK, in reading another thread, I read that someone suggested using Rotella motor oil for diesel trucks in their VR. Is this a correct and proper thing to do?

Warning to all members that might be going across Mississippi on Interstate 10, in the last two week two jerks in a red puckup truck has run two motorcycles off the road. Both riders had serious injuries. So if you are going east or west on I 10 watch out for red trucks!!!!! tew47

Okay, looks like somebody started something and it probably won't end here. One thread asked how many (Active/Retired LEO's in the group) and after this one, somebody will probably ask how many mechanics, etc, etc. But anyway, have had my Class A license for 43 years and have driven just about everything there is right up to 80,000 lbs. I won't tell you about the real overweight trucks I've driven. But did it for 33 years and took a long rest (retired, of which I only drove half a dozen trucks in 10 years of retirement. Went back to work after financial problems, so went back to what I know best and have been driving big rigs again for almost 3 years now. Cadillac's to what I ever drove back in the old days with much more power. :>)

Okay, got my first ride with the new Clearview XXL windshield this morning. Some first impressions. A bit less wind buffeting with the new shield, especially behind trucks. I used to get a slight side to side motion quite a ways back from trucks. That has been lessened and the only real buffeting I got today was from a truck with a bunch of huge, oddly shaped, concrete structures on the back which, I'm sure, didn't do much for air flow behind the truck. Seems like wind behind trucks is about 50% better than it was before. Took the bike for an initial ride around the block at home the other night and, since I didn't have my helmet on, the air flow just "tickled" the hair on top of my head. Noticed that my eyes also didn't tear up due to wind flow. Usually, when I ride the bike around that loop my eyes would always tear up due to wind flow. If I stretch out I can still see over the windshield fairly well. I do have to stretch a bit more with this one but can still see over if necessary. One effect that I did notice, don't know if anyone else has noticed this as well, or not. My chirp seems a slight bit quieter AND the "edge" has been taken off of the sound as well. What I mean by that is, at about 55 in 4th the chirp noise had a high pitch component to it that was, well, just annoying as H.E. double hockey sticks. I would say that component has been squelched very, very much and the overall sound has probably dropped about 20 to 30%. I'm thinking the rake has some affect on the reflection of the noise. Like I said, first impressions of the first highway ride this morning.

Guys...need some input here if ya'll don't mind. I'm lokking at buying a 1992 Ford F-150 XLT extended cab fully loaded and not a 4x4. 5.8L engine, auto trans with trailer towing pkg. color matching canopy. Extremely good condition (from what I can tell) and has 180000 Kms (just over 100000 miles) It's got the captains chairs, air cond. cruise, tilt, pw & pl ... near new tires, new battery (I helped the guy install that today). I'm gonna test drive it tomorrow. What I need to know is what kind of problems these ford trucks are prone to. What should I be checking for? I've only had 2 ford trucks in my life, the first was a new '76 which I only kept for 6 months and the other was a '78 that I bought in '85 and I only kept that for 2 months...(traded it in on a new Mazda). This Ford I'm looking at is on the second owner...he's had it for almost 3 years. The first owner used it mostly to tow a camper trailer to Arizona once a year and back. While there, it basically sat for 3 month's. The current owner also towed a trailer but they bought a bigger trailer so the went out and got a bigger truck. He's asking $4000 OBO here's a pic
