  1. Any one know if the handlebar riser on a 2nd gen is a one piece or two piece item? I do not see any appearance of it being a stud threaded into the upper body, if it is it has to be countersunk I need to either turn down the stud on the riser or drill out the hole on the 1st gen triple trees I am using on the Hybrid project in order to get the 2nd gen bars on the 1st gen triple tree. Only about 0.030" difference, but it is a non-standard hole size in the 2nd gen triple tree, 0.550". There is enough shaft size that it could be turned down to fit and not get into the threads on shaft. A 9/16 (0.562) drill will work to open up triple tree if I put some shim stock I have around riser shaft. Gary
  2. are the triple trees the same on a royal star and a royal star venture. i found a set of barron raked trees but it says for a royal star/roadstar 96-12 need to know will they fit my 1999 venture and any mods if any needed
  3. ....for my '86, the headlight plug and the handlebar nut that holds it to the triple tree. I would gladly pay to get me hands on these
  4. has anybody replaced the stem (top and bottom) bearings on an 1800 GoldWing. I understand that is being done to Trikes because the factory bearings don't hold up to the triple tree revision. Is this a job for a real mechanic ? me being just a play mechanic
  5. Does anyone have a part number or ordering information for a Triple Pocket Windshield Bag that would fit a 1999 Royal Star Venture? Any and all help shall be appreciated. Gilligan
  6. I have had a Kuryakyn Triple Whammy on my Road Star for a couple of years now and have been looking for one for the RSV. Problem is they don’t make a plug and play Triple Whammy and I’m really not in the mood to cut on any more wires on the RSV. It is not available for the RSV as a plug and play. So anyway I bought a wire harness from a member here Steve Kawalcky aka M61A1MECH on the forum and in the course of the conversation I asked if he could build an adapter to plug the Road Star Triple Whammy into the RSV. After some discussion and pictures going back and forth an expertly build adapter arrived at my house. I plugged it into the RSV and wa-la I had triple whammy taillights on the RSV. Everything works the same as on the R* and I couldn’t be happier. No cut wires and things worked perfectly. I ordered another Triple Whammy for the R* so I will have that added safety feature on both motorcycles. If you are interested you will need to buy a Kuryakyn part number 4602. This will come with lenses red bulbs for the turn/running lights. If you have already converted to clear lenses and red bulbs you will need a Kuryakyn part number 4612 this not come with the lenses or bulbs. If you shop on line you can find better prices than on Kury’s site. Thanks to M61A1MECH for all your help. Kent P.S. If you don't know what a Triple Whammy is go to Kuryakyn web site and you can see what I'm typing about.
  7. Not sure what happened but they say I'll Have Another is being pulled from running the Belmont stakes. Something seems to be wrong with the horse. They are having a press conference at 1 this afternoon. So now we have to wait till next year for a possible triple crown winner. Margaret
  8. Not sure how many follow horse racing, but "I'll Have Another" just won the Preakness. Already won the Derby and now we wait to see if he can make it three with the Belmont Stakes. Been a few years since we had a triple crown winner. Of course the most amazing triple crown winner was Secretarait, that was one great horse. Margaret
  9. I bought a Steerite modified triple tree for my 99 RSV from Side Effects www.sidecars.ca Why did I choose this company? Customer service and a great product! Father/son team of Peter and Brock Smith are fantastic. Every email and phone call has been promptly and thoroughly answered, and they also gave me added information to help with the sidecar set-up. They even offered to call and talk me through the alignment process. The mechanic who did the work for me also stated that they were very helpful when he called. They had the triple trees in stock. You just send back the old one when you have the new installed. To say this has made a difference in steering my rig is an understatement. They tell you it's like adding power steering, and it is amazing. About 175 miles last Sunday throught twisty country roads and it was great! I know there aren't many folks here with sidecar rigs, but they also do work for trikes, too. (and if we aren't allowed to endorse a product, moderator, please delete )
  10. I am offering them to everyone here at a lower price. I just do not want to do it until later tonight after everyone has signed off. That way I may not interfere with anyone's conversation/post. I changed the Black Triple flag to $85.00. I will finish the rest later tonight and will be changed by tomorrow morning, Monday (5 -14 ) if no problems come up. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=34 1- Triple Flag - Gloss Black 4- Double Flag - Two Grey Primer & Two Gloss Black * I made more of these because I figured people would like these the most. 1- Single Flag - Gloss Black If you want to pay by check, just send me a message. 11. The Metro Diner in Jacksonville was featured a while back on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives with Guy Fieri. We were never able to even get in as this is a breakfast/lunch only place and its fairly small. They finally opened a second place at the beach and I went there today with my wife. Man, I never knew what I was missing!! This place rocks. No wonder it made the triple D show!! The menu was fantastic. We ended up having a new item called the Vortex burger. Lets break this thing down: Take 2 grilled cheese sandwiches with thick bacon slices, very nicely grilled. Now add a 1/2 lb fresh Angus burger, more cheese and cole slaw between both sandwiches. Stack it on a plate with fresh cut and fried potato chips and I mean a stack of them, not just a few and you have a triple D worthy heart attack on a plate. I should have only ordered 1 and split it as it was I was only able to finish just under half of it. Had some more for dinner with enough left over to satisfy the dogs. I looked around at some of the other tables and all the food looked fantastic. The table next to us had a 4 piece fried chicken plate with a thick Belgian waffle under it all and topped with some type of a strawberry sauce! Amazing!! If you pass through Jax you owe it to yourself to stop at this place. Its that good!! I was thinking of having a meet and eat here sometime but the waitress said that weekends are just a total madhouse and they shut down at 3 pm. Im not sure we would be able to seat so many at once. I didnt inquire about holding any tables yet, but I may sometime in the future for a possible M&E.
  12. Hi all, Just lowered my front end, 2005 Venture. All was going fine until trying to get the triple tree back on. It's not quite centered on the middle bolt so when it get's down to the 'neck' of the bolt the triple tree is hanging up. Have tried pushing rearward on the front tire, and forward with the front brake on. Doesn't seem to change. Can't think of any way to get any leverage between both fork tops and the bolt to get it to 'lean' in. Any suggestions? Looks like I'm about a half hour from being done if I can get past this..... Thanks John
  13. I'm considering Progressive springs for my ol' girl and also want to lower the front end. If I remove the air ride system (as many seem to suggest with progressives) what will I find under the "clamp" on the forks? I want to raise the forks in the triple clamp but will I have to plug any holes which allow the air to enter the fork to prevent loss of fork oil??
  14. I need a triple tree for a 1989. I requested and purchased a triple tree recently. It turns out it's the wrong one. Triple tree facts: the triple tree I need turns out to have the same lower as the 1200, but the upper (on the backside will have the casting numbers 1NL) will facilitate the second gen need for a vibration dampener system. The important thing here is, lower half of triple tree fits both 1st and 2nd gen. Upper half of triple tree has casting number 1NL and has bigger holes to facilitate the vibration dampener system. So, bottom line is, I need one for the 2nd gen. Look for the "1NL" on the under side of the upper and that will be the right one. It's not very distinct, but the old style is cast with "26H".
  15. Help Please I Need A Question Answered!!!! I bought a complete triple tree from Squid to use on my 89 1300 Venture Royal after I send it off to Steerite and have it modified. In another post about the difference between 83 to 93 - 1200 vs 1300 triple trees it talks about the 2 splined handle bar mounting posts bolting on the 1300. Does that mean if I have the one with the bolt on mounting posts it is a 1300 triple tree? Thanks, Vic
  16. I was looking to lower the front of my bike, checked in the tech forum and found an older post that Freebird and 2Mike2 had posted back in 06, I would like to make a couple of helpful notes: After you have the fairing off be sure you have a good pad on the tank or you will make a couple of dimples as I did! They both mention this, after you have the Triple Tree removed, the top fork covers off and after loosening the 4 Allen screws take a crescent wrench and turn the upper fork tube at the air valve stem to about 9:00, or you will have to loosen and re-due everything as I did after I got the Triple Tree re-installed! I lowered my forks 1 1/8" and it made the valve stem too close to the handlebars to get a air hose on! I had put the Leveling Links on a year ago, it did help in the handling but I have a 29" inseam and was getting harder to handle in the parking lots and at some of the stops, I took the links off and re-installed the factory links, I also had Rick Butler do my seat, I'm now down to a 27" seat height, I put 10# of air in the back and 0# in the front, that would depend on your PP. I took a 250 mile ride yesterday, a lot of up and down and twisty corners, what a difference! The bike seems so much better balanced it's like night and day to me! Another quick note if you have a light bar be sure and be careful getting that back on, it's very easy to strip the threads, I had to re-tap mine!! Be sure and have lots of tools and a good memory. Larry M
  17. Ordered the Kuryakyn grips #6240 for my 2009 Venture along with the Throttle Boss gadget that goes with them. Dealer just called and they have arrived. My mechanical expertise is not that great and I ain't just being modest Is this removal of the old and installation of the new grips something that I might attempt or should I have the service department do it? Back in the '60's it was so easy to change cables, grips, exhaust systems etc. :backinmyday:Heck back then I could, and did, even de-carbon my H2 triple. But this Venture ain't nothing like my old Matchless, R.E., Triumph, Kawasaki or even the Honda GL-500 I had. I sure don't want to get started on something I can't finish I searched for pictorials here on the job and did not find anything.
  18. Does anyone out there have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale triple tree complete with pinch bolts and the main shaft nut etc? With the information I received from a member I was put onto Steerite, which modifies your original triple tree. As noted above I would like to get a complete set to ship up and have modified. Then all I have to do is swap them out this winter. Thanks, Vic
  19. Well I'm sitting in a library waiting while my triple tree's are installed. They said about 4-5 hrs. Hopefully the wait will be worth it. Everyone says that my bike and side car will be a lot easier to handle once they are installed. 4 plus hours with nothing to do is pretty boring but its no worth have the wife pick me up and return me later, its a 1 1/2 hr ride and the shop is in a small town
  20. Finally got the Hannigan LT Sidecar installed. Already done a couple of rides with a pillion and sidecar passenger. I will probably get the raked Triple Tree's installed. Other than the arm strong steering I am really pleased with the set up:big-grin-emoticon:
  21. Installing a side car and will probably have triple trees modified to assist with steering effort. What alls involved with removing the triple tree's? Is this a job to tackle myself? I obviously have no idea whats involved as suggested from my first question:doh: Thanks
  22. I installed my risers today...pretty nice so far, although I am unable to go out for a spin (due to weather - ice storm). Anyway...regarding the rubber dampers. I got them out...they had them glued (double sided tape) to triple tree and butted up against the fairing...just like everyone said. Once I installed the risers and reinserted the dampers they are no longer touching the triple tree platform...about an inch off of the triple tree. So I was gonna build that section, but to me it looks like the actual pressure point of the dampers is between the handle bars and the fairing itself...the bottom of the damper not contacting the triple tree doesn't matter or am I missing something. Right now the damper is being held VERY FIRMLY between the handlebars and the fairing...isn't that what it is supposed to do? Wally
  23. Any views or comments on whether Seafoam would also work well in my Yamaha Venture snowmobile, which has 2 stroke 700 triple?
  24. I was told that the right steering is a little bend before i bought my Venture 1200 project. But now i found that it must be the triple tree. In Ebay there are some triple trees for the 1300. Extreme cheap, but high intl. shipping cost at some sellers. I found out that the lower part is the same part number with both models (1200 & 1300). But the upper part is 26H-23435-02-98 for the 1200 and 1NL-23440-00-98 for the 1300. Does anybody know what the difference is? Are these parts interchangeable? Or does someone have a good for me and will ship it for small money to Switzerland? Thank you Holger
  25. I have decided that I just cant make it to the Intl Rally in August so I was gonna cancel my room at the Hub. I dont know if they will let us transfer reservations from my name to anyone elses but if anyone wants a triple room at the Hub maybe give them a call to find out if its possible. Its sposed to have a fridge and 3 beds. Please let me know if youre interested so when I call to cancel I can give them your name, Then you can call them to finalize things. I will take the first name that lets me know if its possible to transfer the reservation. I would love to go, but the summer is just not long enough to fit everything in. SO you guys better take lots of pics so I dont miss anything..... Brian
