Cutting side covers
johnnydemonic posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hello all, new guy here with an 83 xvz12 I have had for about 15 years now. Great site, wealth of information here. Quick question, I am planning a styling change, based on a couple of bikes I have seen here which I call "semi-bobbed", basically I want to expose the engine more (it's a great looking engine, why keep it covered?) and remove the trunk, etc... Make it look a little more like a fairinged cruiser than a full dress tourer. My question is: Before I cut the side covers down, is there anything I should consider, best method for cutting, tips, tricks, etc? Thank you, Johnny. -
Got my new Utopia backrest in the mail today . Can't wait to install it. Hopefully I can get to it Wednesday night. For those of you who have already installed one, any tricks you want to share with me, or is it as simple as the pictures show?

Okay. So I'm out in the garage doing the clutch upgrade. It looks really simple and straight forward. HOWEVER, the old gasket is brittle and stuck pretty good most of the way around. (like 99% of the way around). Does anybody have any old gasket removal tricks, or am I just stuck carefully scraping for a while? I'm gonna go scrape for a while, then come back and check for answers. I'm using a glass scraper (handle with a safety razor blade that locks in place. thanks. dana

Taking my RSTD to the church this afternoon to do Trunk-or-Treat from the saddle bags... I thought of filling one with treats and one with tricks, but my daughter (and frequent pillion rider) insists that both have to have candy in them :/

Here is a couple of tricks that Rocket used when he completely overhauled my bike from top to bottom. For bleeding the brakes he uses a turkey baster with the end filed down and then threaded into the under seat resevoir so you can see how much fluid you have when flushing your brake lines. Also he had a tool put together that really helps when putting a clutch back together. Thank again Paul, I really appreciate all the help and sweat you put into my bike! Brian

Just purchased an 03 RSV with 13300 miles. Takes forever to start when cold runs great when warmed up. It take me 5 to 10 minutes to get it going with the temp in garage around 45.Any tricks or suggestions?

Got a factory radio to put on the rig, checked it last nite with power, button #2 for preset is sunk down in, keeps unit from operating, power comes on, have some functionality, but no channel changing. Any tricks or ideas? If not, I'll have to go back to aftermarket setup for this weekend. Dan
