For several years now I have been looking at used Miata's but unless someone wanted a war pension for them, they were usually pretty ragged out. Today, Linda and I found one locally for a good price and took a look at it and it looked a lot better than I expected. The guy that had it had just gotten it from his mother who has had it for the last five years. It looks totally unmolested. He said the timing belt had been changed about 20,000 miles ago and it had a new alternator and battery. The interior and the top looked to be in very good condition. The two things I am not real crazy about is it is white, but the paint is in very good condition and it is an automatic, which Linda wanted because she says she could never learn how to drive a stick. We took it for a short ride and it seemed to be very solid. The engine was quiet and the trans shifted nice and firm. I did smell the trans fluid before I started it and it smelled good. My hope is to upgrade the wheels and tires as it still has the stock ones and I want to add a trailer hitch so I can pull the Time Out camper behind it. With all the upgrades I am doing to my bike and getting this and being retired, I am really looking for spring. I can not post any pictures yet as I have not picked it up and he has not officially gotten the title yet, as it is in the mail where he transferred it over from his mother. I know I will never find another website like this one, but if any of you have any good suggestions, let me know. RandyA

Would anybody happen to have an ECM/PCM From a Ford F or E series with a 5.8L/351W, fuel injection, and manual trans, C6, or AOD? Somewhere in the 91 model year, give or take? I swapped in a 351W MEFI and an E4OD trans into my 78 F100 a couple years ago and the trans has been filled with gremlins. So I want to swap out the E4OD for an AOD. But I also have to swap out the ECM so the computer won't be looking for the E4OD and give me further issues. Thanks Bill

Ok now I ran across this and wondered a few things, like how can you put the icc sticker on the door, how long your trans will last. . . . [ame=http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/]www.metacafe.com/watch/1704445/motorcycle_tow_vehicle/[/ame]

Just bought it, has 43,00 miles and I have a couple of questions. The temp gage is not working, neither is the cruise. Found some good info on the sight regarding the cruise. Also the previous owner tells me he's never had any valve shim work done and was wondering if that should be done. The bike rides a bit rough and the gas mileage is around 30 mpg. I think it should be closer to 45, but not sure. Have to race the engine a bit to get going. I also own a 1982 CB900C that runs really smooth and almost takes off in 1st without giving any throttle (that's in high with the 10 speed trans). Any info would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

After setting the 2nd gen gear set in the 83 engine bottom half, I realized that there was an alignment problem. After I aligned everything, I believe that two of the three forks are exactly where they need to be. the problem is the one that controls 1st and 3rd gear. Yamaha increased the width of the teeth on that gear slide and with the slide not engaged, it made the 1st gear dogs too close and the 3rd gear dogs too far away. The next step would be to get the correct fork and see if that solved the problem. But that was a problem in itself. According to two different dealers, there was not a new fork available anywhere in the US and the only place to get one was Japan. I then went online and checked with any salvage yards and anywhere else that might have a 2nd gen engine that was being parted out. I had just about given up when my son Brian, who had just stopped by, suggested I check my paypal history in trying to find where I had bought the 2nd gen gear set . Not only did I find the purchase, which was Feb 24, 2010, but the purchase had a phone number listed. I called it and not only did I get an answer, but he told me where to look and the forks and tumbler were still available on an ebay - buy it now listing, where I rarely look. The price was $25 with about $12 for shipping and I have already purchased and paid for it. So, now I am in great anticipation on this being a viable option, not only for solving the 83/85 trans problem, but for any 1st genner that wants to upgrade their trans to the slightly wider spaced gearing that the 2nd gens have. For those interested, I will keep you upgraded on how this progresses. RandyA

New member joining. Love the sight, lots of good info. Have 2nd gear going out in my 84 VR. Was wondering if i put an 86 or newer trans in it if it would work without any mods? Also would i need to change out shift drum and forks? Love the bike, would like to fix it. Any members out there that has a trans that they would like to sell me would be great? E-mail me at arwest_11@hotmail.com Thanks for any help you can provide.

http://powersports.honda.com/2009/dn-01.aspx This has rather interesting styling. Might be a great ride for my better half. FI, ABS, Automatic Trans. I really like that combo of sport bike style and cruiser fit. What do you all think?

Have an 83 venture that has just developed 2 gear problems about 4000 miles ago. Sold it to my brother and he was doing fine but lately has a problem that I can not figure out. At times it will just not shift or will only shift to some gears. But when he calls me to troubleshoot it over the phone, it shifts okay. I figure it is something loose on the linkage but wondered if there is something in trans that would cause this. Runs great and no noise from trans.

OK guys I know this is not about bikes but I need some help. I have a 96 F150 that I bought with 70,000 miles on it could not find out about trans service done ever. So now it has 154,000 and i have been told for years not to service tranny because it could start slipping, And I had a 78 diesel F250 That I changed thefluid in the same circumstance ,and it started slipping. So I'm in a quandary on what to do. Any thoughts?.....Fred
