I have a meeting with a friend in NYC in mid-April and was considering a ride out there. I have couple of concerns - 1. I don't really want to ride into NYC. Navigating in a city I'm totally unfamiliar with is not my idea of fun. I'd prefer to stay outside the city and take a train in. Any suggestions on possible locations (towns & motels near a train station) where I could safely leave my bike for a day or 2? How far out of the city do the trains run? And what's it cost about? Gotta factor all that crap in. 2. Weather - Not sure how the weather is out that way in mid-April. I don't mind cold rain, but freezing rain or snow scares the $tuffing out of me. I know I'd have to cross over some mountains in PA - how likely is it that I may encounter freezing temps and or freezing crap on the roads? I'm thinking I can take I-80 most of the way there & I would guess that they keep the superslabs fairly clean, yes? Any advice, suggestions, locations to be avoided, etc. would be appreciated. If the weather is decent, and I have the time - I may run up to NH to see an old buddy, then down to NC to my daughter. May as well make a real road trip out of it.

I joined a local gym yesterday, they have a 30 day free trial with unlimited access during business hrs, decided I need to not only lose weight but need to strength train too. I'm a bit overwhelmed looking at workout routines. Other than walking and PE class, never stepped into a gym before.

Just got the bike back on the road after going through it after purchasing. It has 55K and wasn't taken care of like I would have. Just replaced seals, cleaned, greased-up what I could and cleaned the carbs and synched and all I can say is, WOW. What a great bike. Lov'n the V4. Moving it around it's like pushing a train, but get it on the road and!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Carl but you are no longer exclusive, Marita has now met and liked another Venturerider couple and on top of that I think Marita thought Bob was better looking ........Then you, NOT ME. so don't even think it. The weather was cold and wet, but the friendship very warm and the We both enjoyed riding the train. BTW Wayne I have something for you, I sent you a PM

The wife and I on separate bikes did 1200+ miles round trip for Star Days this year. Our first Star Days and we had a great time. Lots of nice people, the event was well organized, although the banquet ran WAY long and we left early to get a good spot by the pool for late night talk. We did some exploring on Wednesday and went up Signal Mountain. All the fun roads of Lookout mountain without all the tourist traffic. Went up Route 8/127, and that was fun, but the GPS found what the locals call the "W's". Actually called W road. Look it up on Google. All the thrills of the Dragon without the crazy crotch rockets, but a lot shorter. Sticky Fingers BBQ got our vote for best food of the trip, the dry rub ribs were the best I have ever had. The Tennessee Railroad Museum was a fun time, the short train ride includes a lot of history and you can run around the train, hang out on the very back of the cars outside or stick your head out the window without getting yelled at! Just don't hang out too far through the tunnel, only 15" of clearance! Best $15 we spent on the vacation. Highly recommended. Others in our group enjoyed the aquarium, and several went to the actual Dragon. Only downside was it was HOT HOT HOT. but then it is the South in July, what do you expect? We found the locals to be helpful and friendly, and plan to visit Chattanooga again soon, maybe outside of the main tourist season and when it is cooler! Hope everyone made it there and back OK.

On mother's day yesterday we had a little meet and eat. Didn't think too many folks would be able to come since it was mother's day. So we had Painterman (David) his wife Laura, Salty Dawg (Wayne) Krome Rose (Brandy) Riderduke (David) and his daughter Courtney Muffinman and myself. Not a huge turnout but we had fun. This time Courtney and Laura were willing to go on the train with me. Nobody ever wants to play on the train. Anyway here's the few pics I took yesterday. 1st pic is the back of Krome Rose and the front of Painterman & Laura. 2nd pic you can see the front of Krome Rose and Salty and part of muffinman get in the act. 5th pic is Courtney discovering the IPhone and it's apps 7 - 9 Courtney, Laura, Me on the train. Then it's time for ice cream. And before they think we're gonna move in at the place we head out to the bikes for a bit and eventually we leave. Oh for those who don't know what riderduke looks like he's the 2nd ice cream pic. Think I covered everyone. Margaret

even though there are hard times i got a great raise today. about $150.00 dollars a month. i turned my wifes hay burner (horse) out in the pasture. we had to put her in a stall for the winter cuz of an injury to her hoof. my wife loves her , i look at her as 1000 lbs. of meat when i move into my refridgerator box, and i don't have to shovel those little oval horse things anymore. oh happy day. :clap2: ps. really i do like horses just getting a little old to ride and train them any more. you think a bike will fold spindle and mutilate you, just train horses for awhile. i've got broken ribs and a collar bone to prove it.

you haven't seen the thread in the M&E section, the final North GA M&E of 2008 is this Saturday: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=29931 It is not an all-day event this time, given the demands of the holiday season, which will hopefully make it possible for you to attend (bring the family, by boat, plane, train, whatever it takes!). Please read the thread for more details, and be sure to join us if you can. After all, you can't party if you're not there! I hope you can make it... Terry

Well I went back to the test section to try and figure exactly why I am an idiot and can't post a picture like I want to...I did a couple of train pics and the view numbers were higher there than any motorcycle pic I have posted.......are we a bunch of train buffs in the closet? If so I took this pic last febuary on my way back from LA on Amtrak and thought it would be the perfect camping spot, park the bikes, have a nice fire, grill out,do a little fishing,do a midnight skinney dip,and maybe go back a hundred years we would be pulling up our horses.......... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/DSC_0207-1.jpg

I am going on a overnight weekend trip and would like to change the rear drive train oil today sense its been a little over a year sense I have had it done. I have done it myself on my old 2001 Suzuki Volusia but haven’t tried changing it myself on my venture I usually let the dealer handle it. I am at work right now and don’t have access to the owners manual to figure out what type of oil to get for it on my way home. Can some one please post a walk through on how to change the rear drive train oil and what oil is best to use?

Notice the Union Pacific truck in the corner of one of the pictures… FYI...The Good news?: It was a normal day in Sharon Springs, KS when a Union Pacific crew boarded a loaded coal train to head on the long trek back to Salina, KS. The Bad news?: Just a few miles into the trip a wheel bearing became overheated and melted off letting the truck support drop down and grind on top of the rail creating white hot molten metal droppings to spew downward on the rail. The Good news?: A very alert crew noticed a small amount of smoke about halfway back in the train and immediately stopped the train in compliance with the rules. The Bad news?: The train just happened to stop with the hot wheel on top of a wooden bridge built with creosote ties and trusses. Remember now, this train was loaded with coal !!! http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain1.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain2.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain3.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain4.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain5.JPG http://www.rockinghamremembered.com/CoalTrain6.JPG RULES ARE RULES! Don't let common sense get in the way of a good disaster!

If you are a fan of the old time train displays, here is the one we have in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has been a holiday tradition since 1946. We went there today.. I found this on U Tube of the display that someone taped last year. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv3zjXJ9VVA]YouTube - The Duke Energy Train Display 2006[/ame] Peggy

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm afraid we have lost another member. After reading a post on another forum, I found it hard to believe but I checked it out by Google search and found this. Condolences to the family.-Jack Greenwich (AP) _ Police say a man who was trying to entertain his family by putting a penny on the tracks has died after being struck by a train in Greenwich. Police say 55 year old David Buffa of Ripley, New York jumped onto the tracks at the Riverside train station Sunday afternoon to place a penny on a track and show his wife and three daughters how it would be flattened by a train. Sgt. John Rizzitelli of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the family members tried to pull Buffa back onto the platform. The Metro-North Railroad train, an express from Stamford to New York City, was traveling at about 75 mph when it struck Buffa. He died immediately. Buffa was a retired police officer from Baltimore, Maryland.
