Well these aren'tthe best pictures in the world, but I thought some might be interesting. This bike was my first experience of towing. I was a mobile motorcycle mechanic, specialising in fixing punctures on couriers' bikes around London. The trailer had fifty or sixty inner tubes, a tool box and axle stands etc with half a dozen tyres on top. The bike carried two or three more tyres, a CO2 bottle for tyre inflation, a radio, spare cable and assorted other stuff. At 40mph-ish the bike went into a violent weave, but with experience and a strong upper body you could keep control. At the time we just thought that was what you had to accept pulling a trailer. The biggest hazard was climbing a kerb, when one trailer would hit before another, jerking the back of the bike to one side. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/venture/cx500andtrailer.jpg Later I picked up a trailer to pull behind a Suzuki GT550 bike and sidecar. I haven't found a picture yet, but I'll keep looking. I later fitted over-run brakes because I began to pull a lot of weight. After the GT (which I still have and is for sale..) I began using an XJ750 and also had use of a motorcycle trailer, so in answer to the thread about whether you can tow a bike with a bike, here are a couple of pictures of just that - a GT550 and a ZZR250: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/venture/towinggt550.jpg http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/venture/zzrontrailer.jpg And here is a picture of a sidecar body on a trailer: http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/venture/towingsidecar.jpg This was the only time that I ever got pulled by the police about towing. It was actually after I had dropped off the sidecar body and was returning the trailer (mine was possibly too small for the sidecar body). :cop:He was a young bloke and walked around the trailer, saying, 'You can't pull that trailer, it's too long, no it's too wide, no it's too heavy, er..' 'No it's not,' I said as I picked up a corner and put it down again. It was probably difficult to tell me that something was too heavy if I could pick it up with one hand, so he muttered something about a public weighbridge and went to consult some booklet he had on his bike. He then came back saying that the trailer couldn't be wider than 1m, max weight dada, max length dadada and that I really should check these sort of things. I apologised, but said that people in the sidecar federation had checked them and that the title on his page clearly said the regs applied to solo motorcycles. He went on for a bit longer, calling his desk sergeant, telling me it was a grey area, saying that I was doing something wrong and that he'd have taken me to the weighbridge (although he didn't know the weight regs..) if thetraffic weren't so heavy. I avoided saying that Construction and Use Regs, section (then) 81a (later 83a, maybe in the nineties by now), subsection one paragraph C says that a sidecar may pull a trailer, not being a broken down vehicle, which has an unladen weight of not more than 254kg, as that would have made me sound like a smartarse and nobody likes them... I'm sure there must be more pictures of us with a trailer on our travels, but this is a recent one of us after camping with the trailer tent hitched up. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2071.jpg And again while the tent was erected. http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh10/greg_in_london/sidecar%20rally/DSCF2011.jpg No particualar purpose to posting these, except I said I would in the 'can a bike tow a bike' thread. Hope they're of some interest.

Finished up the 87 last Friday and got her back on the road. She seemed to be running fine but I didn't get a chance to put some miles on her until Tuesday. So, Tuesday I rode up to Dahlonega to visir RandyR and do a carb sync. On the ride up she was running great, with great acceration and no sign of the 4200rpm stumble that she had been having. But, she is still sucking gas at 28MPG (1up averageing 70mph on interstate). :doh:When we hooked the carb tune up #3 was pegging and the others were fairly close. We did the carb sync and I headed back towing my trailer. The ride back got about the same mileage (1up towing trailer averging about 60MPH and about 30 miles of stop start in traffic) I had really hoped that finding and correcting the loose main jet tube on #4 and new main jet tube orings on all four would have corrected the MPG problem but it didn't. I did notice some black soot at the exhaust tips. I'm now thinking one or more weak or faulty coils. I'm about to go out and pull the plugs to read the fuel burn conditions. I'll post pictures of the results as soon as I do. All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

im changing the original rear leaf springs in my Ranger. the stock spring is rated at 1050 lbs. the new one are 1750 lbs. 2 questions...1. will it change the GVWR? and 2. will it change the tongue load on the trailer? im trying to give it a little more towing capacity over stock. i know the leafs are for cargo capacity, but will it change towing?

As Alan has never used a GPS, or bothers with the computer at home, he has decided he would feel more comfortable if I had a unit on my bike as well as the one being loaned to us for our touring in the U.S. Better that I have a back up., as I'm towing the trailer, and when he gets in the "riding zone" can forget I'm back there waiting for him to tell me when to turn off! SO......Amazon has the Zumo 660 for $US649.99--is that the best I'll do????????? I can then purchase the aussie maps later.

On the GL 1800 what trailer hitch is the best for allowing access to rear wheel removal while giving good towing performance? There are a lot of different hitches out there as well as a wide price renge.

no, this isn't a joke ... but I figgured it would get somebody's attention I'll admit I am not very experienced when it comes to towing a trailer so I got to wondering.... do you put grease in the trailer tongue where the tow ball goes or just leave it dry?

Here is there website, I am interested on anyone elses experience on quality, ease of towing, etc. http://tailwindtrailers.com/

Hey I have recently decided to modify and old trailer I had around the house to pull behind my RSTD. Almost got the frame ready to sand blast and paint. Got a few guestions. 1. What is the recommended tounge weight for these bikes and what is the max that should be pulled. 2. What is the best way to wire the bike for the trailer lights, as I will be doing the wiring myself. 3. I have heard rumors that towing a trailer will void my warranty, is this true? 4. Any advice other advice you can give! Thanks in advance for the help!

What are you all using for wiring connections for towing? McHitch has a two piece circuit but it costs around $100. There has to be a better way. Any suggestions???

As you can see, I have the 87 for sale now. (I am no electrician) and Lonestar Medic found me a beautiful 86. But this one has the hitch on it. I don't plan on towing but thought it probably doesn't increase the sale price on the old bike. Is it worth the time to pull it off just in case, or give it up?

Hi guys and gals.. I'm rather new to the Venture with only 6000 miles in 2 months on my 06 midnight (bought used this july) I have a hitch coming soon and though I wasn't planning on towing anything this year, my friend has started building bike trailers, very nice looking.. 75 lbs, single wheel, fiberglass with a square top lid latch. Looks sharp I must say.. As far as trailers go, is there a preference to towing single wheel over 2 wheels? The only disadvantage to a single wheel trailer, to me, would be when you unhitched it.. how do you support it?! But when pulling these trailers, is there a diff in the handling? I typically ride solo but am also a photographer and would LOVE to haul my lighting system on road trips with the bike instead of taking the cage for this purpose.. I don't camp, hotels are fine for this guy.. sorry ; ) All I would need to do is now find a suitable trailer to hold the lighting system.. I did see a set up that was vertical in nature over the top of the hitch, say big enough for your golf bag etc.. that one looked interesting but exceedingly expensive.. I guess one of those set ups are only limited by the tongue weight? Interesting set up..

A while back someone asked if you could tow a bike with another bike, and yes you can. Last tuesday going down hwy 270 in mo. i seen a bike towing another one with a one bike trailer at about 60 mph. Looked like he had no problems doing it , this is the only time i have seen this done, who ever thought this was possible, not me until then. well that's all i have to say. So who ever posted the question can a bike be towed with another one yes you can.

I'm seriously considering this, but am not sure of how effective they are. I know this was asked in the past, but has anyone had any experience with one of these? I really don't have the room for a flatbed trailer but this would be easy to store. My main concern is what prevents the scoot from going over when towing? I don't plan on towing the scoot for any great distance, but it may be nice to have for tows of a couple hundred miles or so, or for emergencies... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260219854774&rd=1 Opinions, please.

The dealership I originally bought my VR from has since shut down after the last hurricane damaged it one too many times. Anyway, when I needed to bring my bike in for service they allowed me to borrow a motorcycle trailer as long as I left my DL & CC until I returned it. The place I am currently thinking of taking it to for service said they will come and pick up my bike, but of course for a towing fee. While that is ok, I am wondering if my old dealers policy is still going on in other sections of the state/country? It seemed like a nice customer service gesture at the very least. What are your experiences?
