I happened to stumble across a Venture Touring Society (VTS) pin this weekend; kinda unique pin and organzation. I am curious, was this organization once VTS or what? If not, whatever happened to VTS? Anyone know?

The last two sunday mornings while flipping the channels I have found a show title LA Rider. Wondering if anyone else has seen this. It's a female named TW riding a harley and touring Louisiana. I think I saw a midnight venture in the commercial for the show. Anyone know?

Looking to talk to 86-93 Venture owner. [not someone selling one] I am thinking about buying one and would like to talk and look at one in my area. I am located in Stockbridge, Mich. Between Lansing and Ann Arbor. If you can help me , that would be appreciated. I am willing to travel to your place or will meet where you want. I currently own a BMW and two Guzzis. [can you ever have too many sickles?] Anyway, I think I want a touring bike and these bikes interest me. Please feel free to call [517] 851-7402 Mornings are best. Weekends I'm riding, but I'm always home for dinner. Or you can e-mail me here. Thanks, James

Hey all, flying down Sunday the 15th to buy a New to Me bike in Florida and riding home. I plan on buying a Side Car for the Grandchild were raising, and to help with weight balance if needed. Unfortuantly Reverse is not available on a RSV. Thought about a trike, but not for me, not yet. Charlene really liked the colors of the 105th Anniversary Edition on the Heritage we just sold. We both missed the RSV, and the touring line with all the extras, and I could never get comfortable on long rides with the Heritage due to my back. The touring line is a bit more than I want to handle, but the future side car will help out. We are buying a 08 H-D Ultra Classic with 2250 miles, like new. I hope the Ultra is as good a bike as my RSV, which is in great hands with Old School. Still enjoy being on this wonderful site and the Great people here. Later-James "Red Ryder" Beyer

A buddy of mine in Bowie TX will be in the market for a good used touring bike in about a month from now. He has a 3 hour ride to his corporate office in Mt. Pleasant TX (usually goes out on Monday and returns home on Thursday), and wants to start riding instead of spending monster money on gas with the big a$$ truck every week. So you guys in that area, keep your eye out for some possible referrals I can send his way in February in the under-$5,000 range. He's not sure he's ready for an RSV, but something in the VTX 1300/Kawi Vulcan/Suzuki Boulevard size and amenity range is more what he's looking for. Harley is OK too, but he's thinking liquid cooled. Clean, lower mileage, no maintenance issues, hard bags a plus, windshield/fairing, no specific color in mind. You get the idea. He hasn't ridden in awhile, and will be taking a MSF course, but really doesn't know what's out there. I'll touch base back in early Feb with this, or drop me a PM if you see something that might fit the bill that I can pass on to him. Personal referrals from reliable bikers (that would be you guys!) are always better then not knowing the bike's history. Thanks!

Was scanning some old pictures the other day and found these that were taken at Springfield, MO some time around 1990 at a "Venture Touring Society" national meet. Enjoy, BOO

I see I got an email Friday for 15% off on Baron's or LA Choppers stuff, good through today only, 10/2/11. The promo code is "secret15". Pretty sure that's not a secret,, just for me. STAR Touring members also get free ship,, I think (may have to call the 800# on that). Just google for Baron's motorcycle or LA Choppers. Mike G

Did the demo ride today on a Spyder Touring and was shocked and impressed. A lot nicer then I expected and well worth the price of a Wing. Thing is so comfortable and the clutch-less paddle shifting is great. Has more bells and whistles then you can imagine and all sorts of storage space. I got the adjustable on the fly suspension system set and I couldn't feel a bump. Before the ride I asked the rep about comments I heard that it was twitchy steering, it has power assisted fly- by- wire steering. He said the riders that felt the twitch was more the likely griping it to tight. Sure enough as soon as i took off I felt the twitchy steering and lighted my grip and all was fine after that. I started out downshifting my self but it will downshift for you and I started letting it do it and it worked great, thing runs 55 mph at 3200 RPM in 5th, I let it slow down to 35mph in 5th then gassed it and no bog at all. When you paddle shift you don't let off the gas at all and at one spot was able get it on and the thing is quick. Lot of thought has gone into this Spyder with the traction control, ABS and all the computers and all comes together real good. That trailer for it looks regular from the outside but when you open it up it's HUGE. The trailer has electric brakes and when you plug it into the Spyder it calculates the weight and adjusts the gas, shifting and brakes to accommodate the extra weight. The thing that would take time to get use to is cornering, gives you the feeling that it will tip over or throw you off, but it won't, just the lack of leaning gives you that feeling on the first few turns. If the Spyder Truck comes to your area do yourself a favor and go take a ride, there is a lot more to them that you might think. OH the stereo sounds great and it even come with adjustable hand warmers for the passenger. The touring and the Sport are as different as a RSV and a crouch rocket so if you rode one when they first came out there are a huge difference.

My wife and I were interviewed about M/C Touring and riding in general on this past Monday and Tuesday Morning Coffee hour show on BNNS Radio! My uncle runs the Station out of Belevidere, Ill. We went to visit him and he put my wife and I on the air. His co-host, 'BigD' out of Kenesaw, Ga, rides also as well as another Co-Host, Bruce. He asked what kind of bike we have then asked to describe it and why we ride, etc. It was quite an experience and I highly recommend it to anyone that gets a chance. If you are interested in our interviews and want to check them out, they should be in the Archived shows under 'Coffee Hour' at BNNSRadio.com. (each show is 2 hours). Both shows talk a lot about riding, but include other topics as well. I haven't listened to them yet. If you do check them out, let me know what you think - good or bad. Craigr

well, i have close to 300 miles on my liner and thought i would share the pros and cons. this bike is one of yamahas best kept secrets. why they don't push and advertise some of there really good models more is a mystery to me. this has to be one of the best v-twin platforms ever for the ultimate touring bike. as archaic that i thought the engine was in this age of high tech engineering. it is one well engineered drive train package. it has the broadest powerband of any bike i have ever rode. stump puller off idle and just keeps on pulling. the transmission is smooth as glass with short throw, and positive engagemant. low speed parking lot handling is the best of any bike i have ever rode. it has an ultra low center of gravity, and perfect steering geometry. the high speed handling is excellent. the frame is rock solid with no flex or wallowing when pushed hard in the twisties. i felt at times i could drag my elbows. well almost, a guy can dream can't he. lol. the fit and finish is impeccable with just the right amount of chrome. it has a near 50-50 weight distribution front to rear. the dealer in indy just called and asked if i was satified. i dug down deep for the cons and here is all i could muster up. the wind shield sucks. too tall, and some buffeting on the high way. i will cut about 2" off and make some lowers to cure that. there is a mild vibration around 65-70 mph that may annoy some , but it is overall very smooth for a v-twin of this size. there is some engine and drive train noise at lower speeds that is greatly amplified by the wind shield. i think most of it is drive belt howl. the belt sounds a bit tight, from my previous experience with belt drives. i will check it. the ergonomics are fairly good. the driver seat so far seems very good. i have long arms and the bars are on the edge of being a bit to far forward to reach. overall i was very impressed with this bike and i just love it. i think with a trunk and the rest of the normal touring luxuries yamaha would have one hot touring bike to meet the competition, till they come out with their detuned v-max powered flagship tourer. i still think that is their plan if the economy ever picks up. by the way this strat s is one georgeous machine. bill

Just thought this was neat. The bike some of us started with, a small dirtbike then on through the smaller street bikes on to the large touring bike. Did not have a sport bike to add to the lineup though, used to have a ton of fun on a Honda CBR. Shaun http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/reddog170/DSCF7053.jpg

I am just curious as to how many of you on this site have lowered your bike? I just bought an 08 Venture and it was a bit too tall for my liking and i had the dealer put a rear lowering kit on the bike and i gotta tell ya that it is so much better now then it was that it is unbelievable! The kit dropped the bike about 1.5 inches and now i have much better control of the bike then i did when it was at the stock height. The bike seems to handle better also and it doesn't appear to have hurt the ride any either. I just thought i would post this for those of you who may have been considering doing this to your bike but maybe were afraid to. Hopefully this post will help a few vertically challenged folks like myself enjoy their bike more. When i first bought the bike i was really nervous about the bikes weight when i would come to a stop etc, now i don't worry at all about it. Hope this helps. This bike is awesome and i cannot believe you don't see more Ventures on the road then what you do. I don't feel like the Goldwing or the Ultra Classic either one has anything on this bike, especially when you factor in the price. The RSV a great touring bike at a great price and should not be over looked by anyone when considering a touring bike.

Howie over at the MTA site is digitizing the various publications that the Old Venture Touring Society and later the Motorcycle Touring Association produced. I was browsing recently and encountered this funny story by our own Don Nelson (Freebird). http://www.mtariders.com/magazine/Nov_Dec%2002.pdf (page 14).

Hi from Atlantic Canada! Moncton, New Brunswick actually. I currently own a Kawasaki Vulcan 1600 Classic and would like to move up to a full-on touring bike for my wife and I by next summer. I've tried out various Harley touring bikes and find them quite nice but I've seen so many used late model Royal Star Ventures going pretty cheap, it's hard not to take these into consideration too. I've never had the opportunity to try one out for myself, so I'm trying to get as much info on the internet as I can find. Looks like a lot of bike for the money. I don't know if I'd go the Goldwing route, so the Venture might be the bike for me. It seems like a bike that falls somewhere between an UltraGlide and a Goldwing? Even though the Venture is only a five speed, when cruising down the highway, it doesn't cause buzzing at the handgrips or floorboards does it? Are there any negatives in dealing with the four carbs, rather then modern fuel injection? How are the brakes? Most modern large-sized touring bikes now have ABS or offer it as an option, does this cause you any concerns as it's such a big, heavy bike? Any input from you Venture owners would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Does anybody know what is coming down the pike regarding a new RSV. A new engine with fuel injection? Might be in the market for a new touring machine in a year or two.
