Hey everyone, great forum as always. This is a cool place. Tomorrow I'm finally leaving for my 5th Annual Ben Kilik Memorial Ride. I'm going to do 30 of these total. Anyway, it's a killer journey every year spanning at least 2 weeks. I have a link to my friends website that has a rough outline of the route. It would be great to see any and all of you anywhere along the way. http://www.paulstocum.com I write an extensive blog about it which I as yet haven't started. I've been bowled over by the extent of ripping the bike and trailer to pieces to paint, repair, maintain, upgrade etc. Man what a job! So I wanted to publicly thank everybody for their awesome advice. I delinked the brakes. R1 calipers, ditched antidives (thanks Skydoc!), stainless lines, Vmax rotors, EBC rear rotor, HH pads, Dunlop E3's, final dirve off 09' with 10k (gorgeous), windshield, upgraded driving lights (w/parade mode, my personal favorite!) new trailer tires and completely disassembled and painted black. The bike rides great. Hate the progs but maybe they'll mellow. Stops like mother! I swear I could lock up both wheels and send myself hurling. Dunlops totally rock. I'll put a link up to my extensive blog (not nearly as good as Jack Reipe but I can dream!) for anyone that's interested and if anybody wants to tag along it'd be great to see you! We tend to camp 2/3 of the time. Give a text or call. Thanks for all the invaluable advice. I'd be totally screwed otherwise! Cheers, John K

(the headlinghts are supposed to be smoked ... best I could do without totally blacking them out) Should I leave it stock? Should I smoke the headlights? When asked about the number of dependants, I replied between refuges, illigal aliens, healthy but lazy welfare recipients ( including the royal Familly), teenage moms, Automotive Manufactures and fat over paid politicians. I have totally lost count. Its no wonder we can't properly look after our elderly.

After only one week of owning my RSTD, I have now COMPLETELY ruined a perfectly good motorcycle by riding it in the RAIN!! Sure it was only a couple of little drops, but I know that holding out any hope for resale (esp. on craigslist) is now totally pointless.

OK, I have a 2006 RS Midnight Venture which I bought new. I love the bike and want to keep it in tip-top shape. I have been changing the oil every 2500 miles or so, but recently switched to synthetic and plan on changing it every 5000 from now on. Let me be totally honest and confess that I am NOT mechanically minded and have some questions about which I am totally confused. So folks, I need your expertise on the following as owners, riders and mechanics on the Ventures. 1) If I put the K&N air filters in, do I have to have the carbs re-jetted? I have the RoadKing mufflers, and the mechanic at the dealer said I would probably have to let them re-jet the carbs because the increased air flow will lean out the bike and could cause problems. Another mechanic said re-jetting is not necessary when installing the K&N filters. CONFUSING!!! :doh:Who is right?? 2) Spark plugs - I have been told that the NGK Iridium plugs are THE best. At $12 each, they should be! Regular NGK plugs are $3 each. If the Iridium plugs are beneficial and improve start up, performance, gas mileage , or last longer, or something, I don't mind spending the $$. Problem is, I have been told "Yes, they are much better" by one dealer's mechanic, and "No, they just cost more and don't improve anything" by another dealer's mechanic. Also, one said change the plugs every 8000 miles and the other said just run the plugs until they give me a problem, like hard start up or engine missing. Sheeshhh!! :doh:Who is right? 3) Gasoline - I have used the 87 octane for the last few months and haven't seen any problems as of yet, but sure don't want to mess up my ride. One dealer mechanic said I should use ONLY 91 octane or higher in my bike. The other said 87 or 89 is fine to use. Oh brother!! Who the heck is right?? HELP!!!!! Thanks in advance!

alright team darkside- i knew a few ol skool bros who rode cts front and rear back 'in the day', but i am only finding very limited contacts that are doing this now (a few wings, valks, and rat bikes). anyone care to chime in... cause the dark dreams are increasing the regularity and i find myself sizing front cts. *if you are totally opposed to cts, thanks for caring. we all ride our own path. i am looking for feedback not doctrine - blessings,

got back yesterday afternoon, wifes first trip on a bike and had a great time! Went up to Ashville to see the biltmore estate and did about 900 miles total. Pulled my new piggybacker trailor and it worked out great. Also the new riser extensions on the handlebars worked great, they totally eliminated the burning between the shoulderblades and helped with overall comfort. If anyone else gets a chance to go to Gatlinburg make sure to go to the Alamo steakhouse, that is without a doubt the best steak I have ever had!!

Since my accident I get to get new speakers since one was totally destroyed, also getting rid of stock radio. I'm going with polk db401's but I'm sure they will distort at higher levels being only 4" speakers and since most of my rides are 55+ mph hearing them is harder without distortion. Anyone using bass blockers? Hows the sound? I like some bass does it totally knock it out? Any opinions?

Saturday morning I broke my stupid clavicle. Got a little road rash on my knee and the back of my shoulder as well as my left hand. I know how you guys like pictures so here it is: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/gibvel/100_0720.jpg Oh, and the bike? Well, the bike is totally fine. Perfect condition. I did this while I was jogging!!!

I am new to this "Post New Thread" thing but for better or worse, here goes. I have just picked up a first generation (88 DUC) with almost 37 K. Runs absolutely perfect in all respect except one. The whinning when decelerating is not really too annoying. It is just that it makes one wonder what could be going on. I also have an 83 TC with almost 50K on it and it has not unusual noises when decelerating. The 88 seems to have the same level and type noise regardless of which gear the bike is in. I have been reading through some of the posted topic and I am totally convinced that most of you have far more expertise concerning the VR's that I. So, any thoughts and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. One procedure I will soon be performing is the drive shaft maintenance posted here. Looking forward to anyone's reply. I thank you all my friends on Venturerider.org. I sit here totally numb right now, I have just lost the love of my life. Debbie passed away during the night. It was totally unexpected. I don't know what to do. I have family with me and that helps, but the loss is already so bad I can't imagine it getting worse. Many of you knew her and she was glad to know you as friends, a couple that deserve special mention are Cinderella, Jane (Boo's wife), Sweet Nothing and Linda Predock. Even if she didn't always keep in touch, she had a special place in her heart for you. I'm sure there are others but I'm kind of spacey right now. I may not respond here but know that I will be harvesting the love and care that you send our way in this time of sadness. Thanks for being here for her and me.

Has anyone figured out yet how to keep grease on the final drive gear case splines. Took my rear wheel off last week and found them to be totally dry again. What do I need to use to keep grease on these things. Suggestions PLEASE.
