Consider the following please. Instead of buying the full HF trailer with car topper kit for $399 with the 8 in wheels, How about the HF small utility trailer #90153 frame with the 12 in wheels. And one of the hundred or so used car toppers sold on craigslist? They are averaging 50 to 100 bucks. Different shapes sizes and colors to choose from. Saving a bit of coin and getting something a little more customized. I plan on adding a plywood floor to mine first so I can remove the topper and use it to haul other things. (and with our car too). My only question for the crowd out there that already have the HF kit trailer #66771, How are they attaching the car topper to the frame? Dave

I'm thinking I'd like to paint the trailer to match the bike...but it's a polypro...whatever plastic. Not exactly the same as the picture...but you know the grey "Explorer" brand car topper box. I'm not sure if paint would stick to it. Any suggestions? Lousy picture...but you get the idea

I have a plastic car topper to put on my HF trailer. I did not notice when I acquired it that it looks to have been crashed on one corner. There are some deep scrapes and the corner was pushed in and it rubbed thru at the crease mark. I cant complain, the price was right, which is why I did not look at it closely. I think the thing is vac formed out of ABS but I'm not certain about that. It is an off white in color and has a heavily textured surface. It is a Kartote brand. I was going to do the repair by laying up some glass cloth and epoxy on the inside, but after thinking about that, I realized that this cover is very flexible/flimsy and the glass/epoxy would not be, It will probably just crack off. Is there something flexible that I can use with the glass cloth to repair the crack. Eventually I will paint it, but that will not be for a while, at least not this year, unless I just buzz bomb it.

I am going Thursday to look at a new for me trailer so that I can get to Dons MD this spring. All I know so far is that it is a Menard's trailer, similar to the HF trailer, with a car topper from Farm & Fleet. The trailer frame and bottom half of the topper are painted black and the top half is painted Yamaha black cherry, I would most likely want to repaint it, to either a light color to reduce heat buildup in the sun, or to match my bike or sell the topper part and build the box that I really want. It was used once to Sturgis and back to Milwaukee. He is asking $400 which is way to much to me when I can get a new one for less from HF. Anyone know what specifically I should look at on it other than the obvious mechanical stuff?

This is my first "big" bike so I figured I need a trailer just to be official! I picked up this Harbor Freight trailer from a guy on CL for $100...Hopefully over the next several months I'll fix it up and customize it...If all goes well, I'll have a good trailer ready for the summer. My plans are to do something "different" and make it a truly custom trailer, not just throw car topper on it and call it good...we will see how much time I have...I'll keep everyone posted along the way if I can. Suggestions and recommendations are always welcome. I have some ideas of the "look" I want, but if you have any neat ideas, throw them out, it might give me more ideas.

Ill be starting on my new H/F trailer soon. Bought the 8" wheel kit this past spring and just picked up a Karrite Explorer carrier from Pep Boys yesterday. This will be my second trailer that I have built. The first one was stock size with a 20cf Sears topper and 12" wheels. I had diamond plated the frame, which was time consuming. The new one will be closely color matched, narrowed and shortened. Hopefully ill have it ready by Sept. I think the Explorer topper is sturdier than the Sears topper and it opens from the side. It also looks more aerodynamic than the Sears...you know, for less wind drag on those 150 mph interstate runs....
