Need some proper info on tightening the steering nut such as torque specs, procedures, etc. I installed new races and bearings top and bottom. Im attempting to install the tree and, following the shop manuals tightening procedures, it just seems to be a bit off. It calls for tightening the nuts to 37 ft lbs but when I tried that it tightened up well before it even would have clicked, which it didnt. The whole tree was way too stiff and hard to turn. Now, just to clear stuff up: the races are fully seated, bearings are fully greased with Honda Moly 60 and im using the machined spacer that SkyDoc sold a while ago to replace the rubber "washer". So, any suggestions? -
Is there a trick to tighten the front lower exhaust bolts? How do you get to them?

I received my Carbon One adapter w/legs ysterday. Today I installed the upper unit (fit perfectly), lifted the bike on my Sears ATV/MC lift and performed the Freebird recipe for tightening up the steering bearings. I now have tighter steering and all is well with the world. -
Hi guys, after some nice help from the lads here about tightening the steering neck bearings as a temp fix to some steering wobbles, it seems that now I'm going to have to get them either repacked or replaced.. The techs who did the tightening stated that they did not feel any flat spots so the bearings should be good as is.. just needs repacking and proper tightening.. fun.. I was perusing various cycle sites and came across this one.. listing bearings.. what's the thought on these? It's my day for posting. Nothing else to do when it is snowing and raining... Has anyone had a problem with stuff falling off their bikes? I bought my bike (07 Midnight Venture) last April. At 4,000 Kms (2400 miles) I came back from an 8 hour cruise and was washing the bike when I noticed the chrome do-dad on the front fender was loose. Turns out one of the bolts had fallen out. After further checking, I found that one of the bolts had come out of the trunk support and another was almost out on the same side. That would have been interesting as my wife was with me all day. It was Sunday evening by now and I was taking off on a 4 hour ride to work in the morning. I spent the next hour tightening bolts. Found a lot that were loose. Got to another dealer on Monday and they replaced the missing bolts. Later on in the summer I opened my side bag and the cover almost fell off. Both bolts had come out. (I had missed these in the previous tightening). More time tightening bolts. I talked to a VP from Yamaha at the bike show here and he pretty much told me to go bother someone else. Not impressed. Anyone else have this problem? None of the riders here seem to have had this happen. Thanks, John
