  1. Thunder By The Bay in Sarasota Fl was a huge event that went on for several days. There were many of the downtown streets that were blocked off on Sunday for the finale. Jagermeister sponsored the big stage and the music was awesome by several bands. There were thousands of bikes, a couple of bike shows and hundreds of vendors with everything from patches to parts to bike customizing on the spot. There were some pretty cool Ventures, Royal Stars and even side cars. I know you guys are gonna complain about pictures but it was pretty hot and most of the bikes (the ones I wanted to take pictures of) were parked in the shade and my cell pictures were all too dark or had pictures of people more than bikes. There was plenty of parking that was either on the streets or huge reserved lots for those that had registered for any of the events. The food was awesome for vendor food but hey who doesn't like the Italian Sausage with peppers and onions or a deep fried snickers bar? Budweiser was the beer sponsor and there were beer tents everywhere. There were even full bar tents and even though there were a lot of mixed groups from MCs to Veterans rider groups and clubs by ethnic background everyone behaved. I was wearing my vest with my American Legion Rider emblem on the back as well as some other veteran and patriot guard patches so I was especially thankful that a lot of folks stopped me to say thank you for your service and several even thanked me for belonging to the Patriot Guard. All in all it was a pretty great time especially the charity poker run and I would recommend that folks try to make it next year.
  2. We are heading out tomorrow afternoon from the ATL to PCB for the Fall Thunder Beach rally. The weather forecast is stellar with mid-80's and sun predicted every day. Got a steal of a deal at a very nice beach front condo for $80/night. Sharing with 2 other couples, so it's easier on the wallet this year. Should be a great week and weekend. Hope to see some RSV's there

  6. In a small group ride, I rode behind a set of Twin Harleys, His and Hers. They were exact duplicates right down to the last rivit....beautiful bikes. The colors were the only difference. Every accessory added they had to pay twice. They even sound the same. That was all I hear for the next 8 hours of riding. The Thundering of the Famous Harley. I could not even enjoy the throaty sound of my 91 VR, when hitting my throttle for the Harley Thunder drowned my 91VR out to liken an electric bike. Next time, I'll lead and show them what progressive springs are all about...
  7. Had a great long weekend with the wife and some friends at Thunder Beach Spring Bike Week in Panama City Beach FL. My first one, and it was quite the experience. The weather was awesome while there (not so great coming home!), the visual experience was "interesting" (I'll leave it at that!), and we met some really terrific people. Overall, it was pretty much what I expected. Local media put the numbers at between 75,000 and 80,000 bikes and 100,000+ visitors. Based on my informal survey of state tags, I'd say the vast majority were from GA (no surprise). We didn't get a place to stay until we arrived, and got a very nice 2 BR ocean front condo right in the middle of the action for about $120/night. Tons of availability from what I could tell. And everything is fee-free....no cover charges, parking fees, entry fees or any other kind of extra expenses for anything! That part was really nice. And there are more bike vendors spread out all over the entire 10 mile stretch of PCB then you could ever see in a week....anything you want, you can find. My only issue is that the entire event is sooooooo H-D oriented, which was OK for the wife, but not much for the Yami or Kawi crowd by way of aftermarket anything. The factory promo trucks were nowhere to be found either, except for Can-Am. But other than that, I'd say it was a pretty fun weekend to take in the total "biker" experience. We might do it again in the Fall for "Thunder Beach - Part II".

    Spring Road Trip - 2012

Greetings All I am planning on heading down to Rolling Thunder next May (2012), from Nova Scotia, and am thinking I will take a scoot over to Arizona, afterwards. What sort of temperatures am I looking at encountering in the Arizona Region, late May, early June, or early May and do Rolling Thunder on the way home?
  10. As you know my sister in law died in a crash on Monday. The service will be held today and my brother in law posted this.. yesterday Shirley's service will be tomorrow at 2:00pm Atlantic time(1:00 eastern). I would appreciate anyone, anywhere, with a motorcycle to fire it up at 3:00 Atlantic as there will be a huge motorcycle parade to bring Shirley home and I want to ensure that motorcycle thunder is heard in heaven. Thanks in advance...Fred and Stacey so that would be 4:00 pm eastern etc...

  12. and it don't rain in Indianapolis--- HAH, WANNA BET??? Lightning, thunder, rain, rain, hail, lightning, thunder, rain, lightning, thunder, hail, and then repeat. It's just plain nasty, and probably headed for Ohio (just in case there's anyone from Ohio active on this forum:stickinouttounge:) We're inside and dry, but it's been at this for around 2 or 2 1/2 hours now and no let-up in sight. P.S. forum name WATERING HOLE???
  13. I left Houston after work Thursday, rode to Shreveport for dinner with a friend, then bunked down in Jackson, MS. Got up Friday after a couple hours and rode in the [relatively] cool air, dodging deer. Made it to Indianapolis in time to collect my wife from her flight. We rode together Saturday to my parents here in Battle Creek, Michigan. It was a good ride, collecting MS, TN, KY, IL, IN, OH, and MI for my ride map over 1500-ish miles. Today's the family reunion, with a 70% chance of rain. We'll get wet but at least I'll have a good time tell whoppers to my extended family. After that, rain rain GO AWAY! We're heading up to the U.P. on Monday, touring around until I deposit her in Green Bay on Wednesday. I don't like to camp in the rain! Worse, after I drop her, I'm heading to Minneapolis for another reunion and it calls for thunder. Worster still, I am planning to head to Omaha via Fargo to collect WI, MN, ND, SD, and IA, and it calls for more thunder. I guess its a good thing I have 5 days to go those 1700 miles, because my future looks to include sitting under overpasses. I hate spending so much time carefully planning a trip and then having it disrupted by weather. But I ride so as to be part of nature, experiencing the world without the insulating cocoon of a cage. I guess weather is a small price to pay. I don't suppose riding in thunder is a good idea? I miss hanging out here and catching up on your lives, but I have a horizon to meet! Dave
  14. Anyone going this year? Its always a good time and it keeps on getting bigger every year? Let me know, Paul

  17. Been an odd day here, went to SafeWay Grocery Store for some supplies this morning about 7:30 AM. Very few cars in parking lot. I step out of the car, and for some reason, looked down at ground. There, in front of my foot was a " Live 9MM Cartrige " Hmmmm?? says I, looked around, nothing going on, Picked it up before some kid gets hold of it. Ok, about 1 PM I get ready to go for a ride, -- in the driveway, helmet on, engine warming up, and the little birdie, ( in the back of my mind ) seems to be saying, " no no don't ride today " Hmmm ???, so I take the car, go to Lowes, they no got what I want . Home for about an hour, and Heavy rain storm pops up, extreme heavy rain for about 5 min. In the middle of it is One Huge Thunder clap, a 3 banger. Sounded like 3, 500 lb. bombs went off. Seattle gets very little thunder and lightning! I been here 24 years now, and only heard thunder about 5 or 6 times. But this was really loud, Reminded me of growing up in Minnesota !!! Whats the point of all this ?? I don't know, but I ain't starting any more projects today !!

  20. Yesterday a buddy and I saddled up and hit the road at 7AM. From Connecticut we traveled North clear up to Vermont. On Route 89 in Vermont we hooked up with 1900 riders at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to do the Vermont Thunder Ride. Once the Ride began at 11:30 AM hundreds of other Riders joined in at various points. End result was that over FOUR THOUSAND Riders participated in Vermont Thunder. The Ride ended at Enosberg Vermont nearly 50 miles north of Montpelier(Capitol of Vermont). There was a short Ceremony honoring all Vets and our POW's still missing and unaccounted for from all past Wars. All total we rode over 700 miles yesterday. With the exception of riding in pouring down rain the 1st 45 miles of the Thunder Ride all else was EXCELLENT! The entire Ride route was lined with folks waving American Flags and cheering on the Riders. For anyone not doing the Rolling Thunder "Ride To The Wall" in Washington the Vermont Thunder Ride is more than worth the effort! This Ride is sponsored by both Rolling Thunder and the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. NO RIDERS FEES WHATSOEVER!! To those who have served or are still serving in our Armed Forces.......THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!! Boomer.......who damn well knows the price of freedom.
  21. Is anyone going to Thunder beach in Panama City fl. the first weekend in May. May 1 - 3 . Gregg
  22. How many of you motorcycle riding love birds have plans for Valentine's Day? I so wanted to go for a country ride. Mother nature has other plans, supposed to get thunder storms Saturday and Sunday. Maybe he will take me to the movies.
  23. A possible new Ontario record Bull Moose was harvested recently near Thunder Bay. It has yet to be officially scored as the rack must go through a prescribed "drying out" time before being scored. It apparently measures 64 1/2", and has more point scoring characteristics that the current record. Record or not, congrats to Thunder Bays Fred Hilliard.
  24. We did the Thunder Beach at Panama City Beach thing Sat. Took in the custom bikes and I took a few pics. They were more beautiful in person and some were very unique. Enjoy
  25. Just wondering if anyone is going to Thunder Beach this weekend (Sept 25-28) in Panama City Beach, FL. http://www.thunderbeachproductions.com/
