Ok I need help from all the motor heads.. I am at my wits end...I have a 2004 f 150 ford heritage , 6 cylinder 4x4 with a 5 speed in it (117,000 MILES ON IT)....my temperature gauge reads normal for a while(20,30 miles) then will go to cold, then back to normal, then will fluctuate back and forth about every 8 miles from normal to cold....I DO NOT lose any heat and the truck seems to run normal...I had a new thermostat installed about 2 weeks ago and all seemed well until today when it started doing it again.... I drive 30 miles to work. It did it once or twice today on the way to work but on the way home it did it about 10 times....I don't know enough about these things and an a little nervous driving it.. is there a sensor I should be looking for?.. Is it safe to drive? will I damage something driving it back and forth to work? Thank you for the help in advance....

Alright guys I changed the coolant Thursday evening ran it with the drain vale set to on for awhile topped off the coolant and set drain valve back to off. I rode it about 40 miles and the temperature gauge remained about 1/3 of the way from lowest mark on gauge with the temperatures in the mid 40's. I went to ride it today and within 5-6 miles gauge was up in the red. Temperature only in the low 40's here, so I pulled over and set the valve back to on to get it back to the shop. Thermostat stuck or what else could cause this? I don't believe there is any air in the system as it ran fine the day before

Hello: I recently purchased a wireless Tire Pressure / Temperature Monitoring System for my '07 RSV which allows me to set alarms for low and high tire pressures and high internal temperature on each tire. I can set the pressure limits easily enough, but I don't know what the normal internal operating temperatures are for the front and rear tires. Does anyone have any information in this regard? I've searched the Internet but nothing of value pops up. Thanks in advance for any assistance provided. Eric S. "alta55rsv"

For the last week I've been on vacation and have done quite a bit of riding and I have been observing the water temperature guage that I recently installed. The temperature doesn't seem to be very stable. Sometimes when cruising 60 mph it will hold at 185 and a while later it will be at 200, cruise on a while longer and it will drop back to 190. At first I just thought it was the thermostat cycling but it may hold the temperatures for 30 minutes or more. In the cars and trucks that I have owned the temperature is always very stable at cruising speeds. Have any of you with guages noticed this type of temperature swings? My guage is an electrical guage. Dennis

So with this extremely hot weather we are having here I am in need of a new helmet. My current helmet does not have enough ventilation and my head is overheating trying to ride. Any suggeations on the coolest (temperature rated not appearence) helmet would be appreciated. I am looking for a 3/4 with a flip up clear screen. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Rob

Ok, I know I put this here before and no answers. But situation now is different. I did everything except change the coolant liquid. The fact is on neutral, if I left the engine running for more than 20 minutes I never get the temperature light going ON. If I start to ride the bike on street for a couple of miles, sometimes I can see the temperature light starting really low (almost imposible to notice that during the day), and then disappears. If I keep running, it goes ON again a little strong but if I stop the bike, I can feel the fan on and after a couple of seconds the light goes OFF. I was able to see the fan working, and also I already check the level of Coolant. Also, finished to take off the thermostat, and test it on a vessel with water and it opens at 80ºC (177 ºF) and it close with no problem. Tried this at least 10 times, and it allways worked. I have the bike stop during the hole winter, and due to this I didn't ride it but I'm trying to have it ready for next weekend MD. Do you somebody think that I need to change the coolant? Should I mix the coolant 50/50 with water? I refill it with full coolant liquid. May be a 1/4 of the bottle, and it is a 1/2" over the Full Line. I 'll thank any help in order to have this ready during this weekend for test it before my 3 hour trip on Friday. BTW, bike is a 1997 Royal Star Classic, with 11000 miles on it. Thanks in advance for any help. calperin I don't want to do this next Friday!!!

These are the Instructions provided by the manufacture. How to iron a patch. Lay a piece of thin cotton cloth onto a patch. Turn your iron on 175 C /cotton/ and press /don't move the iron-just press/ during 15-20 sec. Big patches please start pressing form the center to the edges of a patch. After this please press once again edges of a patch - about 5 sec. Please use only good quality iron-we advise you against using poor Chinese irons, because they don't keep a property temperature. Please pay attention to all plastic elements in a nearby of a patch-hot iron may damage them!!! First washing of the pressed patch can take place after 48 hrs-max. washing temperature - 90 C. This iron-on patch can be iron onto cotton, all synthetic clothes, leather and some synthetic leather.

I have what may well be a stupid question regarding the battery in our '01 Chevy Tahoe. While having our oil changed at the local quick change place they told my wife that the battery tested out as having a dead cell. We have had no signs of issues with the battery since she was told this three weeks ago. The battery turns the motor over quickly, even with the temperature in the teens lately and has shown no sign of fading. But it has me wondering... Could this be true, or are they simply trying to fool the public?

I want to check the valve clearances on my 96 Royal Star. The manual states they should be checked cold (less than 95 degrees) at room temperature. I only have an old wood stove in my shop and although I can get the inside temperature high enough to make it comfortable for working, I don't think it would be considered room temperature. What do you think would be the minimum temperature to be sure I get accurate clearance readings? I would like to get the valves adjusted and reassemble the bike but would it be better for me to wait till Spring when the outside temterature gets higher? I don't want to do all this work and get inaccurate readings because the engine is too cold. Thanks Doug

Help Please ! This has probably been discussed but I couldn't find it. I'm looking for an air temperature gauge for the bike. I remember a long time ago someone had a neat little digital that was fairly inexpensive. Thanks -

Alright darn it....! I read it in the owners manual too so I know this site is right on but c'mon... really? Oil type/grade If temperature does not go below 40 F (5 C) Yamalube 4-cycle oil/SAE 20W40 type SE If temperature does not go above 60 F(15C) SAE 10W30 type SE I live in c o l o r a d o .... it is often above 60F and often below 40F (especially in the hills) So what now? 10W-40? Stupid question I know but in all my years of working for Toyota and Honda (cars) I've never seen anything like that. Hmmmpph.... LOL Many thanks to Dano for the help earlier... pics to come Dano, I promise. That way you can run this FNG through the ringer too.... LOL Kelly

Just noticed that my time and temperature icon on the bottom of my signature is missing. Anyone know where it went to??

The gauge on my 1986 VR is not working, but there is plenty of heat pouring off the manifold. I flushed and replaced the anti-freeze, but would like to know what the temperature is that is being sensed by the command center. Can someone tell me how to correct this problem? Thanks. Poledar

I was just returning to town, about 10 miles to go, and had been running the Interstates on a ride, for less than 2 hours, running at 70 MPH. All of a sudden my speed cut back to 60 and then less and increasing the throttle made no difference. I took the next exit, throttled back, went through town and back home with no further problem, but not going over 35 MPH now. This was earlier this morning and the temperature was actually rather cool. Recalling an experience with one of the pickups in the past, a similar problem proved to be a semi plugged filer. Anyone agree, or is there another possibility? Owen.

I know Moly-60 is THE lube to use but I ran across this on some bike guys website. "An alternative to moly is the new poly-flourinated lubricants made by DuPont called Krytox Teflon Bearing Grease. These chemicals are simply magic. They have almost no known solvents, are chemically inert, and don't burn at any temperature, even in a pure oxygen atmosphere. This is pretty clearly the only grease to use. See this article. Nascar mechanics have found that Krytox grease can reduce the temperature of spline joints on drive shafts by 150°. Also, this stuff lasts forever. It is, unfortunately, quite expensive." How expensive? The Moly60 is roughly $10 for 8 oz from your Honda or Acura car dealer. That same 8 oz of Krytox is... $147.54!! Or 2 oz for $44.55. :shock3: I'm happy with the Moly60.

After installing my temperature gauge this weekend I was able to ride to work today and it was my first opportunity to observe the water temperature. I thought I would share my observations here in case anyone wondered about the operating temps. On the way to work this morning the air temp was in the low 40's. During the 12 miles to work riding mainly on freeways at 45 to 60 mph the temperature held steady at 185 degrees. At lunch with the air temp in the mid 50's I rode through town in moderate traffic going stop and go through many lights and the temp would vary from 185 to 195. While at a stop light it would climb to 195 and then once I started moving it would cool back down to 185 until I reached the next light. At one particularly long light I had to wait through 3 light cycles and the temp rose to about 210. Once I started moving it slowly cooled back to 190. Had I ridden longer I'm sure it would have made it back to 185. At no time did I notice the fans kick on. On the way home on the freeway in the low 60's it held steady at 185. It will be interesting to see how the temps hold in mid summer at 90+ degrees. DT

After reading recent posts about mounting gauges it got me to thinking more about mounting a water temperature gauge. I wanted to do something that could mount from the handlebars via a RAM mount. I've spent a little time today and visited some local parts stores and online sites and I think I may have found a solution. It was recommended that I use a marine gauage because they are sealed better. I found a web site that has everything I think I need except the actual RAM mount. Marine Water Temp http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?Type=Elec_Engine_Temp&Series=Chr_Ultra_Mar&PN=ATM-200762-35 Sender http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indS.asp?Sender=ATM_95_Temp&PN=ATM-2258 Adapter http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=R7965 Housing http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=CD1200-52 I welcome your opinions on this before I place my order. I went to the Fayetteville, AR rally this weekend and found my temp guage reading about 1/8" from the RED zone while at an idle. A little too close for comfort, in my openion. The outside temperature was about 82 degrees. I would like to see it stay about half way into the GREEN. Am I asking for too much?

this one is puzzling me, since I changed to a new battery, my temperature sensor is acting erratic, I think it's electrical, poor ground maybe????,.... my old battery was always demanding a 16V charge, but the new battery, at idle is around 13V, at that time the temp indicator goes off-scale low ( reads less than zero), as soon as I rev up, it jumps to 1/3 scale, where you would expect it to be....... as soon as you come to rest it goes low again, and from time to time it jumps around 1/8" while riding,....I checked the manual, and it gives the location of the temperature sending unit..... can anyone tell me where the physical location to the ground is ???? JOHN ( or any other thoughts on the subject:confused24:

OK, I've lost another round of "Stump the Dummy." That'll be the subtitle to my autobiography one day, "King Loser of Stump the Dummy." I bought the Baron's 1.5" risers some time ago for my 03 RSV and am just now getting around to installing them--the garage and outside temperature are 38 degrees, plenty warm enough to do this simple job. To make a longer story shorter, there isn't enough slack in my cabling to allow the handlebars to slip into the risers. Oh, sure, I could hook a come-along to 'em and the garage wall, coul put it all back together and drop it off at the dealer, or I could even take Baron's up on their guarantee. BUT, before I do any of these, I wanted to check and see if there's a trick to this, or if the temperature is too cool to allow the lines to limber up enough, or is there a clamp I cannot see that's holding things up? Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. Snakebit.
