  1. Im asking my VR family for an intervention here. I have had the bike apart for several weeks now. What started as a simple running of LED pod lights has turned into a fully blown tear stuff down to put it back together thing. Greasing the forks to changing the front tire to pulling the Wagner grill off for some paint work to removing the radiator for a thermostat change to removing the AIS system to schlepping around town to find plugs for the ports to replacing the rear brake canister because of some allegation cracks to, to, to......sheesh, and I havent added one pod light yet!!! And let me add...things in the factory service manual look easy. Too bad they dont tell you that some things are tucked away in some cubbyhole in the frame and you need the patience of a saint (which I sure aint) to access or hands like a smurf to fit in. So, if I ever, and I mean ever post that im going to tear the bike down for some foolish reason, would someone just put me out of my misery real soon..........please..
  2. My 2004 RSMV has developed a fluctuating idle, which seems to get worse the warmer the engine gets. It surges 800-1200 on the tach, and up to about 1500 rpm, then smooths out. I'm due for a valve adjustment and am planning to do that soon, but this happened suddenly, in the middle of a ride. I didn't start gradually and get worse. I pulled the carbs and removed the bowls and sprayed everything I could get to with carb cleaner, checked the float levels (all were good) and changed the fuel filter. I didn't split the carbs or completely tear them down yet. Air filters are fine, and I'll probably do plugs just to rule them out. I'm currently running some B12 thru it, and it seems a little better, but it's still there. Hoping this rings a bell for someone. I'm going to do a complete tear down on the carbs when I do the valves, and re sync if no one has any other ideas. Thanks for the help. Jon
  3. I'm about to check the valves on my '05 Venture.Do I need to buy new valve cover gaskets or are they rubber reusable ones?I want to have everything I need before I tear into the bike because I'm doing it in a friends' garage.Anything else I will need? Thanks in advance for the help.
  4. Hello all!!! After much thought about what our next bike should be, we are really liking the idea of either a used Venture or Deluxe. Thinking 2004 - 2008 but will go pre-2004 if there is really not much difference in features, ride etc. Our thinking is to keep this bike for 3-5 years then get something brand new. Are there normal maintenance, wear and tear, recall type things for these bikes that I should be considering? As an example; value adjustments at 5,000, cable replacements, etc, etc. Would like to try and avoid picking something up then finding out it needs $1,000 in work. Thanks...
  5. Wondering if my numbers are right. All I can find for the jets is 117.5 for the main fuel jets, and 37.5 for the pilot jets. If someone could confirm this, it would be great. Would like to get these first before I tear it all apart, and then wait, if they have to be ordered.
  6. The RSTD patches has arrived. I will get them out soon. Just one issue the package had a tear and so I maybe short patches. I'll take inventory tomorrow.
  7. Well, our zumo 550 has locked up....Beth used it last fall for deer widow's weekend, and had issues with it......we tried using it a couple of weeks ago and it was a no go...wouldn't "open" up.....I tried updating the maps today...and it wouldn't go past the initial page, something about saving trip data and the usb being hooked up....so I guess it goes back to Garmin for some TLC......it's been awesome up to this point, hopefully the repairs won't tear us up $$$ wise...and we should have it back before riding season, which is still 2-3 months away for us up this way, or thereabouts depending on Mother Nature. gunk:think:

    Peaches

A farmer was selling his peaches door to door. He knocked on a door and a shapely 30-something woman dressed in a very sheer negligee answered the door. He raised his basket to show her the peaches and asked, "Would you like to buy some peaches?" She pulled the top of the negligee to one side and asked, "Are they as firm as this?" He nodded his head and said, "Yes ma'am," and a little tear ran from his eye. Then she pulled the other side of her negligee off asking, "Are they nice and pink like this?" The farmer said, "Yes," and another tear came from the other eye. Then she unbuttoned the bottom of her negligee and asked, "Are they as fuzzy as this?" He again said, "Yes," and broke down crying. She asked, "Why on earth are you crying?" Drying his eyes he replied, "The drought got my corn, the flood got my soy beans, a tornado leveled my barn, I voted for Obama and now I think I'm gonna .. Get screwed out of my peaches....

  10. I got "Brown Sugar" scattered all over the driveway. Cleaning a little and just getting to know her. How do you guys clean wheels?? I would just spray them off and let them go but don't seem right on this one. Those things are a B to clean! Tear fingers up!! Retire and ride my a** Only way I can keep away from Warden is tinker with Bike.
  11. So I have started the tear down of the 1st gen so that I may (after 10 Yrs) replace the 2nd gear. In the tear down I have come across a few problems that I am wondering about. The first question being do I have to remove the clutch release cylinder in order to remove the engine? I have found that one of the bolts is stripped :thumbdown:and its a 6MM? allen bolt. If you have seen or done this before you know how tight it is in there. Any suggestions on how to remove this bolt? Thanks in advance:bowdown: Michael
  12. After working all day, I (we) caught the back end of this movie (again). It is a powerfull story which left us with a lump in our throat and a tear in our eyes. I can't help but get pi$$ed off by the insult made against these brave men who gave so much for our freedom.
  13. Well at MD , I noticed that my pillow top seat was ripping at the seams . Within the pleats where the naugahyde was vulcanized . Scoot is just over 3 years old now with almost 52K miles on it . It's not a tear , rip , or normal wear and tear , just coming apart . I went to my dealer today to show them the seat . Service manager said that Yamaha would more than likely not cover it . Well I said to him , just call the rep and tell them to just call me direct to tell me that if they are not going to cover the seat . I told him also to tell the rep to be prepared to receive numerous e-mails from VR.Org if the seat will not be replaced also . 2 hours later , I got the call from the service manager that I will have a new seat with 2-7 days . So thanks to all of you VR.Org members in advance for standing behind me . Man , can I BS !! :rotf: BEER30
  14. Got new fork seals, not leaking there or from the rings on top of the forks where the hoses connect. Cant hear it coming out anywhere either, and it loses it quick, ie from max to 0 in 30 seconds. Before I tear the entire bike apart what is the easiest way to access the line going from the compressor to the forks? Also how do you get to the compressor? Just remove the seat? Thanks in advance!
  15. Made this one for Mom (Deb). this was my daughter's first formal, so I followed her around all day with the cameras, and you know how teenage girls love that, she ragged at me all day. But when she viewed it she gave me a big hug and awwww how sweet, so I was forgiven and Mamma had a tear in here eye so I knew I done good. Anyway, she growing up and hopes she enjoys this look back many years down the road! [ame=http://www.vimeo.com/1890878]First Formal on Vimeo[/ame]
  16. Heres a question in search of an answer. We all know that after 50k mile or so the washier that help hold seciond gear wears then. to fix it the enhgine must be pulled and the tranny opened . First question . Does the tranny open from the bottom without having to tear the whole engine open? Second question has anyone ever adapted a car body rotiserre to flip a venture over and repair the tranny without having to remove the engine? W#ould this be a viable way to get to the tranny with having to tear te engine out? If anyones thought about or tried this I'd love to know. Or is it even possible? Thanks Theres a free PB&J sandwich in it for anyone with a good answer. Phil.
  17. Hey folks, got me a new bike! Looks to be a 1986 Venture Royale. A bit of polish and some Sea Foam and good to go. Actually, I am going to go fetch it and tear it down for spares. (It was the only way to get the chrome fender bottom) JB
  18. Got this today. Brought a tear to my eye. http://s259.photobucket.com/albums/hh289/Impish_Dragon/?action=view&current=Untitled.flv
  19. I just talked with a service tech supervisor at yamaha. He said that none of the items i have brought up are warranty issues. He said it is not unusual to have to replace rotors at some time - 34,000 miles and a heavy rider -- normal wear and tear issues. it is my fault they have worn so much and are well below factory specifications. - not covered lower farings - not a factory defect norrmal wear and tear not covered antenna - not covered rear-end whine not covered they are replacing the trunk lock though. I talked with two people at yamaha - Erika xt 7692 and her supervisor mark xt 7442 their attitude was so sorry to bad go away. Yes, i am frustrated, i have tried to get the brake issue dealt with since the first months. Anyone know of anyone else at yamaha i can call or deal with? please let me know if you do.
  20. Well it's finally arrived,, 56,000mi and under moderate to hard acceleration it's starting to jump, first I thought it was a miss but now after reading here it's the tranny problem. It's a shame the bike looks pretty good for an 83. What all would I have in parts to fix this myself? I may just tear it down and part it out. Or sell the whole bike if the offer is right. Isn't it purdy!
  21. For those of you that like old cars, take a look at carsinbarns.com. Many are old muscle cars that have been sitting for a long time. Some will just about bring a tear to your eye. RandyA

    Southwood Road

The Southwood Road (County Road 13) between Torrance - at Highway 169 - and Severn Bridge - at Highway 11 - is a nice little 40 km combination of twists, ups and downs, and natural scenery. Can be done at a leisurely pace (speed limit is 60 kms/hr for most of the route) but be on the watch out for sport bikers trying to tear up the road. Cheers,
