I just checked out the Superbrace site and was blown away by the retail price of their 1stGen braces. $143.95. WOW!! I just want to let 1stGen'rs know that I still have group buy fork braces left for $60 bucks. The price just keeps getting better as long as SB keeps raising theirs..... Is it too early to get the scoot ready for spring???

Is the superbrace for 86-93 the same for 83-85? Thanks, Dale

Last night I received and installed the Superbrace I bought on ebay last week. It came as advertised with the correct hardware. After my morning ride, I am fairly confident that, while it is a very nice, hefty, shiny chunk of aluminum, it did nothing to change the handling of my 87 VR. My bike has the same slight propensity to mid-speed front end wobble and high-speed weave that it had before, and other than that handles fine. Exactly the same. To quickly review, I've been through all the suspension bearings on the bike, have 2 new tires, double-checked the stem bearings. Thru all this, the high-speed weave, which is NOT self-amplifying, reduced a little. The mid-speed wobble up front (which IS self-amplifying) was mostly taken care of with the new front tire, but not completely. Maybe I need to double-check the balance on the tire. So, it is my opinion at this point that a Superbrace on a VR is a solution looking for a problem, and not the solution to the small problems I do have. Jeremy

Ok - I won a Superbrace off e-bay about a month ago. Tried to install it and it would not go between the forks. So, I raised up the front tonight and loosened the pinch bolt and front axle. Still wouldn't fit. Loosened the lower fork tube clamps and same thing. Air pressure at 6 psi. Progressive springs in forks. It is a 2" thick early model brace. Can't get my calipers in to check the spacing. Don't think the forks have a problem. Anyone have experience with these? I think I will hand it off to Lowell and have him check it to a couple of his bikes. I tried to contact Superbrace and received very canned answers. I asked for the tolerance and measurements and got no answer. Next thing on the list: I retorqued the front axle to 75 ft. lbs. as indicated in the manual. Dang that was a lot tighter than when I took it apart!! I have noticed a very minor twitch in the front when starting and turning sharp at the same time. Maybe this was the problem. I will find out in the A.M. when I run to work. Retorqued pinch bolt and top tube bolts. Front tire feels ok-maybe a bit stiffer to turn. Say 3-5lbs. force needed to rotate the wheel. Thinking of pulling wheel and replacing bearings just for the heck of it. JB

First the superbrace would not fit on a 1990 model because the rubber fork boots I believe mount different than earlier models. I ended up machinning the brace to make it fit. Second if you look at the picture there is barely any thread engagement compared with the original brace. I cant believe people are riding around with such small thread engagement it cant be good. Im going to the store to get a longer set for safeties sake. Anybody else check how much the threads actually engage the forks?

The wife and I went out on a ride last week. I hit a pothole which made the forks bottom out soooooo I said enuff with this. So in the last few days i have replaced the fork seals because they were starting to weep, new brake pads on the front, AND put in a set of progressives. What a change!!! Now the forks are sturdy and the ride is much better. Might do a superbrace next year but for now I'm RIDING:322: Thanks to this site i have probably saved 500 bucks just by reading on how to fix it myself.
