  1. We are supposed to get 6 inches of that white stuff overnight.
  2. Slow day at work so I went exploring. Is this the software's place for putting stuff like the tech library? Just curious.
  3. I am one of those that is spending Christmas Eve at work (surfing the web) while the rest of my family is eating and laughing and opening presents. But at least I was mean enough to not deliver my stuff ahead of time. All of those that are getting stuff from me will have to wait until I am there.
  4. Guest

    MSF Course

Hey, Started the MSF course last night, and gonna be there all day today and tomorrow. I've been riding since I was 12 and am still learning stuff... LOVE IT! Just want to encourage anyone out there who hasn't taken it - get it! Cheers,
  5. This is our day today. For you Southern folk, the thing NOT covered is a snow blower:cry: The covered one is an '07 Midnight Venture:mad: Hmm, maybe if I attach one to the other... We're lucky, some places to the east of us got over a foot of the stuff.
  6. Hello everyone. I have spent some time reading older posts regarding what everyone brings on the road. Naturally, people bring or leave things depending on the type of trip ( weekend vs. week, solo vs. 2 up, weather etc ) . This leads me to asking you savvy riders this: 1- where and HOW are you putting all this stuff in ?? The RSV has the presence of a lot of room, but it seems like I may have thought it had more then it does. I mean after the wrenches, tire compressor, rain gear, misc stuff such as flashlights, screwdrivers, oil, etc. what room is left for food, water and clothes. 2- at some point I will be taking a 2 up over night journey and again, where and how am I putting up stuff including spouse ( she doesn't think it would be fun stuffing her in trunk ) the rest of the general packing list and clothes for 2. Maybe it's just me, but I do not throw away socks and shirts after a trip. On the kawasaki , we use a T bag which fits behind the passenger backrest. This left both saddle bags for gear. I am trying to figure out the best way to pack this bike, for longer trips ( to me it means 200+ miles) and overnights which was the reason I picked up the bike. ( sadly time and responsibilities with the little ones do not allow me longer journeys w the wife) I learn so much from this sight, and many thanks to those that take the time to respond and reply both on the forum and through PM. I eagerly await your replies....
  7. To all our members affected by this Huricane, please know that your in our thoughts and were talking with the man upstairs for y'all to get your lives back to normal. PLEASE be careful, if you dont have to go out....DONT. This is nasty stuff mother nature is throwing at you. If there's anything we can do to help y'all please let us know....all the best to you folks.
  8. Hey guys, What's the best way to jack up a First Gen? Help me out. I want to check the front wheel bearings, steering bearings, rear bearings, swing arm and shock. You know... all that stuff that could cause major mishaps at interstate speeds. So I need to get the front and back off of the ground. Is there an easy way to get it up on to the center stand? That will help for some stuff. I can't seem to do it even with help. I have a Harbor Freight M/C Jack, willingness and ingenuity!
  9. I've been doing some cleaning. I know, scarry thought. I have a big box full of old aquarium stuff, pumps, filters, heaters, decorations, lights, lots of misc stuff, and the pile is still growing. I will give it free to anyone willing to come pick it up. It would take forever to try to pack it for shipping.
  10. REDNECK SENSITIVITY Three rednecks were working up on a cell phone tower: Cooter, Ronnie and Donnie. As they start their descent, Cooter slips, falls off the tower and is killed instantly. As the ambulance takes the body away, Ronnie says, "Well, shucks, someone should go and tell his wife." Donnie says, "OK, I'm pretty good at that sensitive stuff, I'll do it." Two hours later, he comes back carrying a case of Budweiser. Ronnie says, "Where did you get that beer, Donnie?" "Cooter's wife gave it to me," Ronnie replies. 'That's unbelievable, you told the lady her husband was dead and she gave you beer?' "Well, not exactly," Donnie says. "When she answered the door, I said to her, 'you must be Cooter's widow.'" She said, "You must be mistaken. I'm not a widow." Then I said, "I'll bet you a case of Budweiser you are." Rednecks are good at sensitive stuff.
  11. Just bought an '88 last night. I'm pretty excited. Is there anyone close that wants to meet to show talk about our bikes so I can learn the stuff that someone who owns one of these bikes knows? Thanks, Sean
  12. i just bought 12 pair. got them the other day, fast shipping. nice and toasty. made in USA! thought i would pass it along. hunters and stuff......http://www.ebay.com/itm/12-pr-Cabelas-20-Merino-Wool-Blend-Winter-Thermal-Socks-10-13-Gray-NWT-/360491837890?pt=US_Men_s_Socks&hash=item53eefce9c2.
  13. After the bike being on the lift for about a year she will be coming back to earth in a few days. Just got to add fluid to all the brakes/clutch and bleed, route some electrical accessories, install the tank and seat and it'll be good to go. Should be like a new bike with all the work that went into it. Should get another 10 years out of it. I dont need no stinkin "new" Venture anyways..... Lets see: rebuilt and deburred and polished the lower legs and beer cans. Progressive springs and Amsoil fork oil. Polished the R-1 calipers as well as the front rotors. Also polished the rotor bolts as well as the brake banjo bolts. Polished the lower tree as well. New neck bearings and races. Flanders bar conversion. Chrome switch housings. Polished the brake and clutch masters along with SS brake and clutch lines. Rebuilt rear caliper. Chrome front and rear wheels. Rebuilt said wheels as well with new bearings, seals spacers, dampeners. New saddlebag rails. VMAX rear. Saddleman seat. Assorted chrome accessories. (im still finding stuff that I have ordered while I was under the OXY spell) (no, for you newbies, it was for knee replacement, not a crack hoe addiction) And I did order much stuff..lol Even taught myself to mount the tires. I didnt want the shop to scratch the chrome. Im sure there is more stuff that ill uncover but thats all I can think of right now. I still need to strip and polish some of the old billet covers that the chrome has been fading off. Thats something that I can do as the winter sets in here in Florida. I was hoping that Eck would have invested in a new paint job for his future investment but, ah, well.........
  14. I am building a little Tear Drop trailer and want to sheath the sides with aluminum .040" thick just like I did on the other one I made, so here is the question. I want to glue the aluminum to the wood sides of the body but the glue should not harden and become brittle it should stay tacky and pliable. The glue I used the last time was to thick and lump, so I was looking for alternatives. The stuff I use should be easily spreadable and lay down a thin coating. So do any of you have some suggestions on what kind of glue to use. I was thinking on using spray glue like they use on car interiors/upholstery (spray trim adhesive). From what I remember about the stuff it stays tacky and gooey and never hardens. It should hold the metal down but still allow it to move a little. Any body got any suggestion (that would be helpful)?
  15. Anyone related to or know someone related to Mrs J.D. Ritchie. I was going through some of my parents stuff and found this old diary from J.D Ritchie.
  16. Roadside Marine in Williston VT. When I did my clutch upgrade I must had either pinched the gasket or didn't scrape it off good and now I have a very small leak. I stopped to get a new gasket and the one they had was broken but he gave me a tube of stuff they use and said try this with the broken gasket and just drop the tube off when I have a chance. He gave me the broken gasket no charge. They are great people there.
  17. Just made our finale plans for our trip. Big Mike and I will be in Sturgis on Aug. 5th . We have been talking about doing this for 10 years and its finally going to happen . I can't wait to get out there. I was out there in 1971 and need to refresh the memories of some of the stuff I seen at six. Now I need to make some 47 year old memories. Are we going to catch up to any VR members there for some fun ?
  18. Kind of strange , our last child is going off to another collage far from home just finished up loading the truck . I have mixed feelings but she needs to move on and have her own life.! Anyways, I am leaving now to get the rest of the stuff into her new place! WoW no more kids in the home.. Umm what will I do ? Gunna be kind of quite Jeff
  19. I don't usually endorse a product like this but I just couldn't resist!!!!!!! I went to Wally World Saturday and they had this stuff on sale Turtle Wax black box waxing system. So I said what the heck, my 02 midnight Venture is due for a full waxing I'll give it a shot. It is marketed as being for black vehicles only and shes black. It is a 2 step system. Put on cleaner conditioner, let dry, spray with a black detail spray(everything is black in color),buff off,put on wax,let dry, spray again with spray, buff off and!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my god I have never seen anything like it. The paint looked 20 layers deep with a mirror finish I AM IMPRESSED! Now the fun part, not being one to stop at one, I proceeded to do my wife's (BLUE) Suzuki Burgman with it and..........same results! Guess the black vehicles only is the gimmick. But THIS STUFF IS UNBELIEVABLE if you haven't tried it try it REALLY it's worth the 15 bucks. I figure I will get about 5 or 6 waxing's out of it!
  20. I've been playing with this for a while and finally got it worked out. We old Maytag 1st genners are seriously short of handlebar space for mounting all those lil dodads and gizmos. Got that handled without drilling into the bodywork or fabbing up something to bolt onto the bike. I had to farm out a bit of work to our friend Dano to get the holes drilled square into the round stock as I had no luck with the hand tools I had available so, thanks again Dan. I first got the idea from Dingy when he welded up a nut to go on there to make his GPS mount. Pretty simple idea. Remove the nut recessed into the risers that retains the hand controls and remove it. Replace it with the stud extension to add the space needed. Roll an o-ring into the recess to keep out the grit and water and it's done except to mount on the handlebar clamps for the needed mounts. So from this day forward these shall be called "Snagglestuds". I made a pair for both sides so now to buy more stuff to mount......... Mike
  21. Only 2nd time its been on a trailer. My wife didn't want to ride that far, plus not enough room to take all our stuff. We are on our way in the morning. Staying at the Micromotel. Gary
  22. ok i went on a search on flebay pinwalls stuff and found a set of carbs for an 05 to 07 RSTD does anyone know if they are the 32 mm carbs i would need to do the carb swap for my 99 RSTD so i would (could) try to catch some of those 1st genners if it is and will work i can get them for 89.00 plus shipping just have to save up for that maybe by next week then come the intake boots and other stuff needed
  23. Anyone else see these? I don't see them on other threads. Also, a few days ago I noticed a round image of some kind infesting many posts. Just wondering what this stuff is. I'm on my new iPad, so, I'm pretty sure it's not a virus on my end.
  24. I read the VR tech article but it seems to have a lot missing, particularly when reinstalling. If my memory serves me correctly, although probably incompletely, there are quite a few hints or tips scattered around the thousands of threads on this forum thatt I don't recall the details and can't seem to find. There is something about: - using Locktite but was it the red stuff or the blue stuff? - what about torque on the 3 inside bolts and the 2 outside ones? - using a spray gasket remover instead of a scraper? - properly aligning the shift shaft or it won't work after getting it all together - the washer that fell out when I pulled the stator cover off? It has a lip on the inside edge and a couple of bends that would work like a compression spring. Which way should it go in? - before sealing, is it better to just pull the new wires through the case grommet in place or remove the grommet from the case first? There may be more but that is all I can think of now. Only 5 days before I want to leave for Nelson Kruzen the Kootenays. No pressure.
  25. You'll see them somewhere in the vid ... nevermind all that other "stuff" that's going on.... check out the twisties man!! http://player.vimeo.com/video/31481531?autoplay=1
