I got a leak from the oil plug. I don't know if it is the plug or the oil pan threads that are stripped but I would assume that it is the oil pan threads. What do I have to do to fix this? I have a 8 hr trip to Sioux City planned for Friday. Iowa Guy

Pro Fix Stripped Threads The way I have always done stripped bolt holes is to install a HeliCoil. It is a thread replacement device that you drill out and tap the hole for the Helicoil to be installed. This lets you use the original size bolt. You can pick up a kit that will contain the Coil, Drill bit and tap. They are available at most Auto parts stores. If unsure what size you need take a bolt with you and match up. The link below is a site that gives good info on use and installation http://www.repairengineering.com/helicoil.html

I have my 84 Venture stripped down as I was doing a bunch of work on it getting ready for my first season - coming up soon! YEAH! Anyways, has anyone taken one of these bikes and stripped it down and ridden the bike without all the extra plastic? Does is look ok? Any opinions out there???? Thanks

Maybe someone here can help. Does anyone here know how to remove stripped and seized air screws on the venture carbs? I have had a lot of trouble with my carbs and found a decent set of used ones. I cleaned them up replaced the needle and seats, new slides and diaphragms, as I was getting ready to re install them I saw the air screws had the heads stripped off and they wont move, I want to see if I can fix these any suggestions? Thanks Rob

Hi group, Dunno about everyone else but been chasing missing bolts, and having problems with the hex / allen key heads stripping on my 03 Venture. While stored in my garage for our great Canadian winter, I noticed both sides saddle bag rail's front bolts missing. Anyone know the part number or a suitable replacement? Also noticed 2 small leaks of coolant under the cooling fins that cover the cylinders on the left side. Took it to a shop who removed them and told me it was the coolant plugs - a quick fix. I got the bike put away just before the snow flew and finally picked up the replacement plugs, figuring I would replace all 4. Well, I did 3. Why? Because the shop who discovered the leaky plugs must have stripped the head on 1 of the 3 bolts. Frustrated that every time I go to do something on the bike, there is always 1 allen/hex headed bolt that is either seized or stripped. I removed the backrest due to getting sore knees from the forward leaning position I was in, despite adjusting it all I could....and had 1 seized bolt, that I stripped the head from trying to remove. Tried removing the saddlebags to switch back to stock exhaust from Barons Custom Bag Slash....stripped 1 bolt each bag. Got the quick release ones (Butlers?). Frustrating.

I liked the first one so much ,I bought a second, my first "big" bike was the 88 VR, now just bought a 87 VR...... we will call it "HIS" and "HERS"....... except HER doesn't drive....oops... I guess I'll keep it around for a spare..... already have it stripped down to the frame and motor, rest in tupperware bins waiting for a "rainy day"...... the 87 is on the right

Any ideas how to remove a stripped Allen bolt? My plan was to remove the saddlebags so I could install the Saddlebag rails that I purchased. The Allen bolts where so tight.. That I stripped one of them…what would be the best way to remove that stripped Allen bolt?

Went to take the tank off this evening; one front side Allen head bolt removed with ease; the other one stripped like butter. Now what? Can't grip the head with vice grips; tried three different styles/size with no success. Cutting off the head would do no good because the bolt sticks out about 1/2 inch into the gas tank mount. The gas tank mount doesn't seem to have much give to pry it from the bolt if all that was removed was the head. Any ideas?

I need a lower shock bolt.. the long one that goes thru the bottom of the shock.. I was wondering if any one has one that they would be willing to part with.. i have all of the bushings but my bolt is stripped on the end where the treads are.. it is for an 86 venture royale..:smile11:thanx

On the Master Cyl Reservoir cap for my front brakes one of the screws is stripped out. It looked like the Previous Owner tried to open it and butchered the head and stopped. I noticed this so I bought 4 stainless replacements for the Clutch and Front brake reservoir caps. I cant get this last one out. I gave it a small squirt from some WD-40 and let it soak for a couple of hours, but it still stripped out. Any ideas on how to get the screw out without damaging the reservoir?

Hi, Thought I'd ask if anyone has a better solution than the one I am about to try. The previous owner of my bike stripped the crap out of the oil filter bolt and I am unable to get it off. My plan is to cut a slot in the bolt head with my dremel and then use an impact driver to see if I can get it undone. Any other ideas? Anyone know if the bolts bust off in the block since these are hollow? I already have a replacement bolt, oil and filter. So it shouldn't be bad once I get it off. Thanks, Ian

Hi everyone For some reason unknown to me, I seem to have lost my antenna tip, that is the part that is up from the black device on the antenna. It seems to have affected my cb because I can no longer hear anything on it. The allen screw was stripped while I was losing it. Could I just replace the top part with a small whip antenna that are sold at auto parts or does it need to be OEM? Don

The moneypit has about 87000 miles on it. Is there a time limit on the life of the stator? Will be painting starting this weekend, and want to know if I should replace it before putting the bike back together. Also, is there anything else I should look at while it's stripped down? Any advice?

Never, NEVER, work on your scoot when you are mad at the freaking world. I have a ride this weekend and was going to change the oil. Spent over a decade in the USN as a dang knuckle dragger so you'd think I would always know righty-tighty lefty-loosey. Over torqued the drain plug and she's stripped. Now what? Options??
