  1. Still having issues with a wobble in front end of 2007 RSTD with 93K KLM (57K miles). Have new front tyre balanced and fitted, new steering head bearings and everything seems nice and tight. Wobble happens at about 40kph (25mph). Not noticable whilst accelerating/braking but if speed is constant in a straight line and smoth road wobble develops. Seems OK at higher speeds. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.
  2. My Verizon contract is up and I'm considering switching to Straight Talk smart phones from Walmart. They offer unlimited everything for $45 a month. They also offer Android OS using either GSM or CDMA systems. Verizon is CDMA and they do have the best coverage out there. Does Straight Talk CDMA use the verizon towers ? I'm looking for opinions of Straight Talk cell phone users about how their coverage is with either GSM or CDMA phones when away from the big cities and interstates. My concern is not having a signal while riding the back roads.
  3. I rode my bike to work today and then left around 11:00 to make a run to my Heat Treat source. A Ground Hog came out of no where running across the road. I started to hit the brakes and even had my foot on the peddle and decided to hit it straight on without the brakes at all. I braced myself with arms and shoulders tight to keep the front wheel straight after hitting it. My teeth were clinched tight also:smile5:. I waited for the bump and jar but it never happened. I don't know if he went under the bike or right in front of the tire. After it was all over I was just smiling going down the road and then laughing. I can't believe how close that was. Real close.
  4. What would I gain by changing my final drive out in my 2008 RSTD to a V-Max final drive? Also what year would I have to get to do this and is it a straight out change bolt for bolt? Joe and
  5. Any one ever replace a clutch line ?? any thing special to be aware of?? Foundm a leak in mine thought it was the slavce cylinder (lost the clutch) but line leaking never replaced one and can't find any thing specific on it but seams pretty straight forward.
  6. Trying to change plugs on my '88 VR but can't get the socket into left front and right rear heads. The coolant line clips are creating just enough interference were I can't get the socket to go in straight (zero tolerence ) . Tried to move the clips, got them broken loose but won't slide up the hose. any ideas? thnx Markus
  7. Been out about 1-1/2 hr, not a cloud in the sky, 800# goes straight busy, and web site will not open.
  8. I sold out of the group buy fork braces late last year, but lately a few members have expressed interest in more... so I just ordered another 10 braces and they should be shipped out this Friday. If anyone is interested go to FORK BRACES for pricing and pics. For those newer members that aren't sure what an improved brace will do, they make the forks works together, improving straight line stopping, rough roads, and making it easier to hold a line when cornering. One of the best bang for the buck improvements you can install on your bike. Condor
  9. Those of you looking at HD pipes, looking for slash down style. The 2011 Road Glide Customs are slash down. No I am not looking at getting rid of mine. But I thought I might throw that out there if people like that style. I like them better than any others. Most that I see are either straight cut, or slash ups. There is a pic in my profile pictures that show the pipe enough so you can see what they look like.
  10. Just put the collector back on the bike last night from the repair, just had to fire it up without the mufflers....... it was 11:30 PM, inside the garage.......thought I had my sons small block Camaro in there with headers only! Skip 12 hours till today, was getting ready to re-hang the mufflers when I decided to run up and get gas first. WHAT AN EYE-OPENER! First , the local neighborhood Harley guys are now EXTREMELY jealous! You know, the ones who run straight pipes and think their stuff sounds good. Let me tell you, they don't hold a candle to a Yammy V4 with the open collector! As far as performance, lets just say that my clutches are tight, but not with this puppy opened up! Any amount of hard throttle would bust them right loose, kinda glad 'cause I didn't want the front end off the ground with the wind we have blowing right now. She sounds really good anywhere from 4-6 grand, you really don't notice you're running those higher RPM's it sounds soooooo good! Might just have to build a set of straight pipes like CTraylor did and let the wife get used to it......... Really don't want to put them back on..........
  11. just found a three inch long nail in my almost new rear Avon Venon. i pulled it and plugged it. what are your thoughts on plugging tires? the nail when in straight and on the 'leaning' portion of the tire.
  12. I am sooo glad I got to go to MD this year, and put the faces to the names. I got to meet quite a few people, although it might take a few more meets to make all of the names stick. You know as you get older, it's harder to keep 'em all straight...lol Great meeting you all, and wish I could have said goodbye to more of you. We'll be seeing some of you again in about 3 weeks at the Int'l Rally. Very glad to be a part of this wonderful group!!
  13. Put E3 on back of my 2007 RSV. After about 5000 miles its already squaring off and starting to make a high pitched howling sound. Been riding some twistes to round it up again and it is slowley getting better. I do alot of straight line riding but I didn't expect the tire to do this so quickley. I used to run E2's on my VR with the same type of riding a did not have this problem. Any one else have there rear tire do this?
  14. ...I had a retired feller offer me a 2006 VROD with 6500 miles on it as a straight trade for my 65 Comet, if I have the white parts painted blue... I'm still marinating on it...
  15. Well, yes because my searches didn't reveal to me threads that are close enough to my situation. I bought a pair of '06 RK mufflers. Both pipes have a restriction in them (not straight through). I was thinking these wouldn't have the catalyst in them, but I guess they may. Is it necessary to remove the cat? Since neither is straight through, how loud will these be compared to the stock RSV mufflers if I don't bore them out? I want just a little more rumble; I don't want these to be as loud as the V&H on my Kawi. I looked at them again and one pipe has just baffles on both ends and the other has a baffle on the outlet, but the inlet has what lookes like corrugated metal in it. I had read that the cat was a yellow material and that is not what is in this pipe. If I knock out the baffles and cat, will I have to rejet?
  16. Went to surgeon today and everything fusing together as it should. No more back brace and time to start therapy. Asked the Doc if I can ride the bike now. At first he said no, but I told him I don't ride a Harley, that I ride a bike like a Goldwing where I set straight up and have a back rest. He said OK. So soon as I get the bike back from Pennsylvania it will be riding time. :big-grin-emoticon:
  17. My 83 venture seams to want to vear off from side to side going down the road at any speed. All I can find is the front pressure keeps going up to 22 psi. I set the guage to manual but it keeps going to auto and build pressure. Would this be the problem of the weaving or is it some thing else. The scoot went on craigslist the first of the week. Going to down size.
  18. I'm moving on... Thank you all, especially to Free Bird, and perhaps others the keep this site going that are unknown to me. Sold my Venture and bought an FJR. The Venture will always hold a special place in my memory like my R5C and TX650. An awesome bike for long straight roads. This site's tech info got me through a clutch upgrade and valve adjustment. Thank you again. Thank you all. Ride on, Slab Pig
  19. I just ordered a Clearview XXL clear w/vent for '00 RSV. I looked on another post that showed how to remove windshield. Seems pretty straight forward. I was just wondering if its acually as easy as it looks. Thanks, can't wait to get the new shield.
  20. I got home yesterday from a 10 day business road trip out west, my wife and my daughter are sick, I'm fighting off a cold or something?, my dog has a terrible case of the fleas, & I find out due to "Corporate Restructuring" my job is in serious jeopardy. I finally get home in the evening, no beer in the house:bang head: , and I sit and watch my beloved Tarheels drop their third straight game. At least my hotrod is still in the garage, I think I heard it crying last night wanting me to take it for a ride. OK, I am finished venting. Thanks for listening. Dave
  21. double whammy here! First, my '83 is not tracking straight when I let go of the handlebars. I recall from my commuting days that I used to sit on the back seat of the Virago with the thumb lock on and my hands in my pockets and ride for miles going down I20. My VR ('83) won't do that, she falls away to the left. What would cause this? Warped frame, tire out of balance, left side of my rear too big??? And after that of course, how do you fix it and is it worth the effort? Second and the main reason I bring this up, now that I have a sidecar attached, I am trying to attain neutral steering by adjusting the toe in. In theory I should be able to adjust sidecar toe-in to achieve the rig to be steering neutral, but that might come at the price of increased tire wear. Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks!
  22. i think i have figured out the source of the chirp in the primary gears on yamahas. this gets tecnical. my rstd had the chirp about as bad as it gets. both my v-star 1100 and my 1300 in particular, have a terrible amount of primary gear noise. i always attributed it to the straight cut gears which are the noisyest gear pattern there is. my wing has straight cut primary gears and they are totally quiet. my 1600 nomad has straight cut gears and has a barely audible hum. you have to consentrate to hear it. i always figured gearlash either to loose or to tight was the main cause. this will make a difference in the noise level, but i think the real cause is the curvature on the face of the gear teeth. yamaha has picked a pitch that just happens to make noise. the only real fix in my opinion is to go to their engineers and have them try different pitches on the surface of the gear teeth untill they hit the right combo. or go to honda and kawa. to see what pitch they use. just my opinion. i think the clutch basket change is just a bandaid. it tightens the clearance up to a sweet spot that may or may not last depending on tooth wear. think about this the tranny gears don't sound off, and they are all straight cut.
  23. I was riding Saturday and came up behind a group of guys on bikes, mostly harleys, they were running a little slower than I was but not enough for me to pass the on a 2 lane. So I just rode along behind, and began to notice how they rode, sitting straight up, heads held up chin up, first thought was these guys ride with good posture. So I straighten up out my normal slouchy postion, but then as we went through intersections they looked straight ahead not really looking at the cars coming up to the intersections. At one crossroads a pickup appeared that he was not going to stop, he actually had to slam on brakes and slide to a stop, not one of the 7 bikes in frount of me made any adjustment or preperations to avoid the truck. last bike on the right missed the frount bumper of the truck on a few inches, I had allready moved left and slowed to be ready if he came out. But the others rode on as if they never saw him. This is way many bikers get hurt, they ride like they own the road, yes we had the right-of-way, but he was in a 3/4 ton four wheel drive. I thought of RANDYA's signs off, Ride as if you are invisible not invincible words to stay alive by. thanks RandyA and mine now, You might have the right-of-way, but ride like you don't. Gregg
  24. I am looking to install a LED integraded license plate frame and a brake light flasher. Both are from Signal Dynamics. The installation looks pretty straight forward. Any "watch outs" before I do?
  25. Ok, if anyone knows how to stop the rain PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE make it so! We normally on a average have about 6 inches of rain a summer. This year we are somewhere around 30. It rains everyday or everyother day. We've had 4 days straight without rain all summer. This s##ks. If this is what climate change means. I'm planting rice next year. OK, thanks for letting me vent.
