I recently installed progressive springs and all seems to be fine with myself as a single rider. A bit stiff but expected. Yesterday my wife and I went for a ride and the ride definitely was smoother. I did hear what I thought was spring noise when taking off from a dead stop after a decent descending stop. I think the coils probably compressed about ½ inch to maybe an inch. My wife and & together riding gear and with some stuff maybe pushing around 350 lbs if that makes any difference. When I say spring noise it sounded like something was grinding lightly or rubbing against the springs as it was expanding. But I can’t imagine a ½ to 1 inch movement could make that much noise. The sound lasted about 1 full second. I did not hear anything during the breaking as the springs were compressing. I’ve heard that one is supposed to install the tight coils first which for that helps with spring noise, which I did. What does spring noise sound like. The OEM springs made no noise. Is what I’m hearing normal? Is there a breakin period?

I am electrifying a tank bag. I want to give the bag rigid walls so I can affix power ports, etc. What can I use to build walls inside the bag? I've seen instructions to use aluminum, but I don't have access to a metal shop. I have in mind something like my poly kitchen cutting board. It is a millimeter or so thick, flexible enough to bend, but still stiff. However, it isn't long enough (I think I'll need something 3-4" wide by 3' or so long) and I'd like it to be a single piece. Being white or a light color to help brighten the interior would be a plus. What can I use? Dave

I have the 86 and it is doing ok. It has sat in the garage for the last 5 weeks while I recover from another hernia surgery. Ok throttle is a little stiff. Also have to really crank hard for wide open throttle. Cables appear to be in stock location. There is a differance if the bars are turned left or right. I have not checked anything much yet really. I did notice when I put the carbs back on the attempting WOT the bracket at the carbs actually deflects and moves some. There is nothing stuck or stiff in the carb assembly. worked great by hand when rebuilding and reinstalling them. Am planning on lubeing the cables up with my cable ease stuff. Wondering what all fairng pieces I have to remove to get to the cruise control cable box and if people have issues with the routing of the cables especially in the triple tree area. Thanks everybody.

Morning troops! Here we are at Carl & Marca's. Went out to dinner last night with a few canuck venturer's...and will meet a few more today at Carl's Venture In. Great folks'--just not too sure about Charlie [E-fishin-C] :rotf: The flights to get here were interesting, with most problems coming from seating for me and my stiff leg.

I was bleeding the brakes the other day and ran into a problem with the rear fluid reservoir. The problem is I could not find an easy way to top it off. I tried using a funnel, but the "spout" was too large to fit. My GF came up with an idea: Use a stiff plastic tube and a funnel. Check out the attached pics.... The tube is the perfect size to thread into the plug hole, it is stiff enough to hold the funnel upright, and transparent enough to show fluid level. Who says women aren't smart? Y'All ride safe...

I posted in Watering Hole, but thought it should be here?? Does anyone have any passenger floorboards for the right side available?:icon_smile_question I need them to so I can attach them to either floorboard on the right side when I am riding--this will give me the extra kick-out I need for my stiff leg. But it also means they can be removed if Big AL is riding my bike, or so they can't be stolen!!!!! Happy to pay reasonable price and shipping

To all my fellow riders in the very deep southern parts of Canada like Texas and Arizona :rotf:you don’t know what you’re missing. The temperature in Ontario hit a blistering 5 Celsius (41 Fahrenheit) and I couldn’t stand it anymore No one wanted to ride because it was to darn cold. The sky was cloud free, so I mounted the iron pony and set out though places like the Niagara escarpment, Beaver Valley, River Road and Osler Bluffs. Three hours non stop, and I was frozen stiff when I got home. It took 1 ½ hrs to thaw the smile off my face. Thank god winter is only 6 months long or I’d have to move to southern Ontario around Jacksonville or Tallahassee. I'm sure glad spring is here. Ride safely and enjoy the season.

Made the modification and it worked out fine - see http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=20293 . I even found the bracket you used at Menards. Also tried a different approach with an "L" bracket - didn't work out too well - was, in my opinion, just too stiff and might cause some cracking in the ABS - was also just butt ugly (see pictures). Thanks for a good write up on the subject. Jinksy

two days ago, rode the '86 VR and it ran great. Got on today and the clutch lever is super stiff. Slow to pull in and slow to come out, doesn't take forever to come out, maybe a full second, but doesn't snap out like it did last ride. System was worked on and fluid flushed last fall by Yamaha dealer, has been perfect all summer. What happened in the space of less than 48 hours sitting?

Hey everyone I have a question. I pulled the bike out yesterday (87 Venture) as I hadnt had it out in 2 weeks. I washed it and then went for a little scoot. When I rolled it out of the garage I had a little trouble hitting neutral to fire it up. It was stiff and hard and and just kept going from first to second without hitting neutral. Finally found neutral and down the road I go. The gears were stiff and hard to shift, almost like the clutch wasnt in all the way. Had a problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd and then to 4th, almost had to do it a few times to get into the other gears. Downshifting was the same thing had to shift pretty hard and a few times to get it to want to downshift. The bike ran fine other than that and when it was out last 2 weeks ago it was perfect, and I did nothing to it other than wash it before I went for a ride yesterday. It was dark when I got home so I didnt even look at it I just pulled it in the garage and and parked it (the penguin game was on). I figured I would look at it today. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know where I should look first? Thanks, Paul
