I'm considering rewining my stator since it does not seem too complicated. I have examined a XZ550 (Vision) stator that have the same number of coils (18) but is smaller. The copper wire has a diameter of 1.1 mm. Does the XVZ have the same wire size? Here in Europe I can't find high output stators. Probably because the XVZ did not sell in great number here. In UK the Electex company sells replacement stators for 90 £ (140 $) including VAT: http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Stator_Kits_424%2ehtml&WD=xvz&PN=G08%2ehtml%23aG8#aG8e They also have RR that seems up to date; http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fwww%2eelectrexworld%2eco%2euk%2facatalog%2fOnline_Catalogue_Regulator_Rectifier_206%2ehtml&WD=xvz12&PN=RR36%2ehtml%23aRR36#aRR36 I have read about the cooling kit but it's perhaps a bit overkill here in Sweden (not being so very hot...)? So back to my first question; the size of the copper wire on the oem stator, please!

I do not yet own this bike but I am looking at buying it. In the "known problems" thread, there is this: Stators. Early models suffered from stator failure due to over heating. Later models incorporated an oil cooling system. What years? On a 80's honda goldwings, you have to drop the engine or put on an external alternator kit which costs $600 and robs you of 6 m.p.g. It is so common of a problem, I don't want to own one. I'm going to South Mexico, and I do not want to face this problem. So. What years, and what is the fix? Do you need larger stators to take care of accessory lights and gadjets? Should I not add them? Is there anything else I need to look at closely on this bike?

I just noticed that Western Power Sports carries regulator/Rectifiers for all models of Ventures. No idea if the prices are good or not. Here is a link to page in their catalog" http://www.wps-inc.com/wps/WICATALOG1.pgm?Task=NEXT&CICID=ST&PRVCID=ST&PAGE=577&Rnd=1245745185364661 They also have the stators: http://www.wps-inc.com/wps/WICATALOG1.pgm?Task=NEXT&CICID=ST&PRVCID=ST&PAGE=579&Rnd=1116395901028910

Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum but not to RSV's. I want to install a higher output stator in my 1999 RSV (for reasons I'm sure everyone knows about). Stock output is 29A @ 14V @ 5000 RPM. The only two I could find are from Ricks ( http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=21-412H&pmc=MDBZYW1YVloxMzAwVEY= ) who state theirs puts out 40 to 45 amps for $160, and from Buckeye ( http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/p24.htm ) who states theirs puts out 55 amps for $239. The latter equates to a 83% increase over stock which I wonder if is even possible. Both dealers say they have their stators made up by an undisclosed third party. Has anyone had any experience with these two stators to determine if one is superior to the other and if the Buckeye is really better? I would be ticked if I later found out they both were the same and from the same manufacturer and had paid 50% more from the latter seller. Any help with this? Roadrider (Grant) PS. I posted this on another forum but the jury still seems to be out on the topic.
