I think I finally got it altogether. What you'll get: 2 side covers, laser cut, mirror stainless 1 stainless bracket for left side 2 spacers glued to the back of the right side cover 4 stainless screws to attach the covers (metric) 2 replacement bolts to attach the left side bracket 2 washers for the above bolts 2 spacers for the above bolts 1 banjo bolt, if you need to replace the one sticking out from the rear brake master. 2 crush washers for above banjo bolt. Instructions: On the left side you need to remove the 2 bolts on top of the middle gear. You can store these for another purpose. Install the 2 new bolts from the package with the bracket as shown. Spacers go down first, then the bracket, facing out, and the the supplied washers and bolts. Torque to 17 ft lbs. On the right side you might need to remove the banjo bolt that is facing the outside from the rear master cylinder and replace it with the thinner headed banjo supplied. The supplied crush washers are also thinner, so use all supplied components. This is necessary as the OEM banjo sticks out too far to make a nice flat installation. You will need to bleed the rear brakes again, so before tightening the banjo, pump a bit of fluid through the joint to eliminate as much air as possible. Total cost will be $150 or less, including shipping. Please indicate if you want to join in the party. Once I have a count, I can then get a firm price for the stainless, let you know the actual cost and get your money before we make them. This will be a one time only deal. Sorry about the dirty scoot, I've been too busy trying to put this together to worry much about it.

I am getting ready for the winter months and buying ahead for some upgrades and fixing stuff that was done in one manner and after looking at it found a better way to do it. Anyways I have been digging through the different sites and catalogs and came across the McMaster-Carr site and I'm in connector heaven here. I found almost every type of connector, plug, socket and sleeving one could want and at the right price... cheap. I know this is a contractors catalog and some of you guys may have been using these guys for years but for the less informed on where to buy folks this is a great site. I was looking for the stainless bradded sleeving and found it in various sizes from 1/4 up to 1 1/2 for very reasonable prices ranging from 2.10 - 7.38 per ft. As far as the connectors go it looks like the sky is the limit here. They also carry those hard to find Stainless steel screws and bolts in English and Metric thread. http://www.mcmaster.com/

I had a 2foot by 2foot sheet of stainless steel I laid down on my wood garage floor to put the bike on the center stand for an oil change. While walking to the tool box I bumped into the bike and it moved about 6 inches. To my surprise I can rotate the bike 360 degrees with just one hand on the stainless plate.I took another piece and put under my 84 now I have 2 turntables.Works great.PS....I tried a sheet of aluminum but I guess it is too soft and did not work for me.

OK, I'm still rebuilding the BUB's and want to wrap the baffles with some stainless screen to slow down the packing from disappearing. I've looked all over and locally can't find the stuff anywhere. I've found it online but they want to sell me enough to cover the whole bike. Anyone know where I can find a small amount??

I found this Ebay seller located near Toronto. The brake lines are stainless, covered with PVC. After shipping it would be about $40 per line. I haven't even looked to see how many lines we need but it seems a long way from the price offered in the classified. In fairness. it's comparing apples to oranges because of course this vendor is not offering the de-link kit. Not sure if I want to de-link or not. Any thoughts on the product, price or comparison? Any thoughts on to de-link or not? http://cgi.ebay.ca/YAMAHA-XVZ13-VENTURE-CUSTOM-STAINLESS-STEEL-BRAKE-LINE-/190403794950?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c54f35806

Has anybody done the upgrade to R1 brakes on a 2nd gen? I went with stainless brake llines shortly after I bought my bike, 'cause the brakes felt awful "soft" after my FJR and Duc. The stainless lines really helped, but I am curious about going to the R1 brakes. They "should" help quite a bit. Ideas?

so i was going to do the needle/shim mod @ a year ago and ran into the same prob as 84xj, i just put it back together stock and forgot about it. yesterday i thought id try again and went and got the washers from ace and same problem, the needles had no play in and out, a little side to side but none in and out. i remembered this post and searched for it. my needles do not have any adjustment?!? so looked a little closer and discovered the prob/solution. not all washers will have the exact OD measurement and sure enough the ones from my local ace are too big. i think the area inside the slider that the needle/ clip/ washers fit into is tapered and so it all seems to fit fine at first but when you start to tighten it down there is not enough room for the washers to seat proper. I could feel it when tightening, but was unsure why. i went back and found nylon washers 1 the same thickness as two stainless washers but with an OD just a bit smaller and all works perfect. now there is free play in and out like stock. I did try and slide the slides into the carbs with the stainless washers and i could feel the needles rubbing in and out. dont want to cause alarm but if you dont know if there was free play with the needles id check. and i bet Eds washers are spot on so the carb mod kit he sells would be worth it. attached pic is of a stainless washer STUCK inside the slide. im gonna go for a ride this weekend and enjoy checking the fuel mileage. At least that is what I think they are. If you have a royale, these screws/bolts are holding your radio controls to the handlebars. If you dont have a Royale, there are plastic plugs over the holes in the clutch and brake reservoirs. I am trying to mount something in those locations and cant find what bolt goes in there. Plus I'm sure the right hand one is left and thread from the looks of it. Anyone know of a store online that may have metric fine thread left hand bolts in chrome? If not chrome then stainless? if not stainless then anything? I'm sure finding a set of stock ones is like finding hen's teeth.

Has anyone tried the braided stainless steel brake lines on the RSV? I've got 'em on my Duck and they are FANTASTIC!! REALLY made a significant difference in brake feel...will it do the same on the Venture? Seem's to me like the brakes are a little "soft", at least compared to my old Duck or the FJR I traded for the Venture. I really like "solid" brakes. Any ideas? THANKS!

While rebuilding the carberators on my 87' VR this past weekend, one of the hardest things was getting those phillips screws out of carb. covers! What a pain. I destroyed over half of them removing them. I searched all over town and bought a few boxes of Stainless Steel metric Allen Head cap screws and some really nice Stainless Steel flat washers to give my rebuild a nice "Custom Touch". After I bought the cap screws, I polished the heads of the cap screws on my buffing wheel to a mirror finish. I have a few sets of these cap screws left over and If anyone would like a set I have placed an ad in the Classifieds, the link is below. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/1643 I think you will find the quality of this hardware to be excellent! It was purchased from a Marine supply house and to top it off I have hand polished the head of every cap screw to a mirror finish! For our members North of the border, the shipping might be a bit more but I will only charge the actual shipping cost, nothing more. Paypal is prefered, Checks take a while to clear. You will get 16 cap screws and 16 washers, enough to do all 4 carbs.! Shipping is included to the lower 48 states.

was trying to get a harbor freight tire changer. well they are on back order. i bought the bottom part and i am making the motorcycle part. i did a little innovating along the way. so far it really is going good, and i'm only in for $2.75. i did have some donations of materials from one of my good friends who owns a machine shop. all he had was stainless steel tubing so stainless it is. any way i could'nt drill the stainless for the pins (burned up a new titaniam drill bit), so i redesigned it. it is going to have an infinate wheel dia. setting now. i will have pic's when it is complete. bill

Saw these on e-bay. The guy has sets for many bikes and has misc assortments and individuals as well. I'm tempted, but wonder if the stainless is strong enough that they won't have a problem being torqued. Stainless is typically a bit softer than regular steel isn't it? Anyone tried them? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150111682796&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1

I've seen a few places that sell kits, but I'd like to get some stainless lines that aren't necessarily standard. Anyone know of a place that sells open stock of stainless lines of various sizes with banjo fittings (reasonably priced ideally) so I can make up my own set(s) or replace pieces as budget allows?

I've noticed people selling stainless steel bolt kits for the ventures. Although they are bright and shiny as well as easy to maintain, I wanted to through a word of caution to those not familiar with the characteristcs of stainless. Stainless does not mix real well with aluminum and has a high possibility of galvanic corrosion. In other words the aluminum can corrode like crazy if moisture gets around the threads. Also stainlees steel is more brittle than other steels and can break under stress where carbon steels will flex or bend. Saw some on ebay and wanted to let folks know before they through their dollars out there.

Anybody have a source for polished T304 Stainless Steel Sheet 20 or 22 GA. in #8 or Super #8 mirror finish? I am looking for a cut piece of 24"x24" dimensions. I usually get my specialty metal through onlinemetals.com, but they just offer #4 brushed and no possibility of ordering small quantities of #8. The local steel yards will just order huge quantities for architectural purposes. Thanks in advance, Klaus
