My '05 Tour Deluxe is having some serious front brake issues, need ideas on where to start. The bike has about 50k on it, I'll admit, the brake fluid is about a year over due on flushing. My problems are these: the front brake lever is hard to squeeze - meaning if I squeeze the lever with the normal force to moderatly slow down, I barely get any braking action, if I squeeze harder the brakes just about lock up; other issue- when I do find that sweet spot in the front brake lever for good moderate braking, the brakes pulsate pretty bad (like a warped disc) and the front end dances all over the place. Needless to say, this thing is scary to try to ride. I hope with all of these brilliant minds here, I might find an answere Thanks, Dave

As "Brown Sugar and I were playing with some twisties today I was paying attention to the shifting. This has been going on for a while but is getting harder and harder. Holding a rule against the end of the ball on the handle it has more than 1&1/2 inches of play before you start to feel pressure when you squeeze it. Time for the push rod and bushing?? I bled it out last fall. All new fluid. Hope its not the slace cylinder.

Thanks you RandyA and Squeeze your suggestions helped. My speedometer was off by 10 mph it dead on at higher speeds now at lower ones its just slightly off now. RandyA your speedometer fix worked very well my speedos pretty accurate now. Squeeze thanks for your suggestion on replacing the clutch pressure plate bearing I had a serious whine at all RPMS but now I just have it at 3000 rpm so for most of my ride if I stay off of 3000 rpm I no longer have the whine. Thanks to both of you.

Squeeze, A while back a comment was made about the hand-control for the back brake(for disabled riders) that SPEIGLER makes and you offered to help me if I needed it...........guess what?? I NEED IT!! It is going to be safer if I can put the back brake up onto the handlebars--as my right foot needs to sit where the brake pedal is. Can you get me any information about it:think: You said the factory was not far from you, and I would appreciate any help okay:bowdown:

Most of my problems with my bike have been carb related. As in float problems. When I got the bike it had two bad floats that had sank. I found after many inquiries that NEW or even aftermarket floats were no longer available. So I ended up buying a used carbs off eBay and stripping out the floats then dried them for several days and gave them a coat of airplane dope. A recommended and workable fix but it does add some weight to the float causing serious adjustments to get the fuel bowl level close to specs. So when I finished my winter projects I swapped out the treated floats for another used set hoping for the best. It was fine for a couple of weeks until one of those sank on me to. Geesh! So it was back to the drawing board and I turned to Squeeze, our friend and member here on the site. Squeeze is the V-Max guy and he had a set of carbs on his bench from a VR. He stated he couldn't see the difference between the floats and the carbs were very similar body wise. Squeeze gave me a part # for a float for an '85 V-Max. I then got ahold of Rick at Buckeye Performance and he only had one in stocks so I bit the bullet and ordered a set of four. They arrived yesterday and they are an exact match for the VR 1st gen floats. Dead on! So maybe this will help someone in the future. The Yamaha part # 1FK-14985-00-00 Float Here are a few pics of the old and new side by side. Thanks to Squeeze and Rick at Buckeye for all your help in figuring out a solution. Mike

Okay, followed the instructions found here on the web site that Freebird put for the Barnett Clutch. Now here is the issue, can't squeeze the clutch lever at all. Also, bike was in gear before removing the clutch plates, but now I can roll the bike and the green light for neutral is not on. The only way I can squeeze the clutch lever is have Mechanic put some pressure on the "plunger" that sits in the bearing. So anyone have any ideas as to what I need to do? :confused24:

As part of the tear down on looking for the engine rattle, I found an o-ring that was broken and looked like a worm sticking out. I mentioned this in my post and Squeeze was nice enough to post some very interesting information that was taken from a V-Max site, but the 1st gen Venture was mentioned a lot. Mine was just like in the pictures, except mine was not bulged out, but broken. There is a lot of information about the cause of this, such as the design, not warming the bike good before reaching RPM's above 3000 and running oil that is too thick. I have probably done all of this. The link that Squeeze provided is: http://www.angelfire.com/ia/z/vmaxoilring.htm RandyA
