1. Replaced my rear pads tonight and noticed somebody has done some modifying. Bike is a 90 MKII. Rear rotor is a vented disc and not offset. Somebody has added spacers to move the caliper closer to the wheel. Has been functional up to this point but I'm concerned about my braking efficiency. The rotor only measures about 304 mm. The rotor isn't large enough to make full contact with the pads, there is 5/16" of the pad not being used. Included are pics of the worn pads, rotor and caliper spacers. http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/pads.jpg http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/rotor.jpg http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x337/steve_roseman/Venture/caliper.jpg
2. So, you've removed the running lights to make repairs under the fairing and the 2 spacers between the bike's bracket and the lights mounting bar fell out. And then, you're fustrated trying to get them back in place when re-installing the lights. Not easy, huh? But, here's the million dollar's worth solution to simplify the process: First coat one side of the spacers with excessive amounts of "Silicon Ruber Sealant". Next, run the bolts through the spacers and just slightly attach the bolts to the bike's bracket. Then press lightly on the spacers to make total contact. Leave it alone now until the next day. Now, as the bolts are removed, the spacers stay in place and the lights can easily be put back in place. That's it! All ready to ride again! Owen.
3. I just purchased a Chrome Radiator Grill from ebay and learned that I need spacers for correct installation. Was wonder if someone with one of these might remove a spacer and post the diameter and thickness of the spacer. There is a Mclendons Hardware store near by and they have all sorts of spacers in various sizes. I would also think that a Nylon Spacer would work for it would be far enough away from the Radiator heat. If I can't find the exact size I might be able to find one long spacer and chop saw it to the specific length.
4. I'm replacing the pads on my rear brake and would like a quick confirmation/correction about the thickness of the spacers. I measure the spacers between the caliper and the caliper bracket arm at 4mm and the one between the swing arm and caliper bracket appears to be 3mm. (I'd have to pull the wheel to make sure.) Is this correct? Added question. should the disk be installed based on rotation or is that subject to which disk if at all? I notice the outside pad is not flush with the face of the disk, piston problem??? Thanks! Oh, if you missed it in my profile it's an '83
5. I found a decent set of saddle bag side rail guards for my bike. But there is no bolts and spacers to attach them to the bike. Sooooo, does anyone have a set of the attaching bolts and spacers to sell ? Or a total set of the bars and necessary hardware to attach. These rails that I have found have the reflectors on them. But I am reluctant to buy them with out knowing about the needed hardware to attach. The price seems reasonable. Fuzzy
6. Just changed the rear tire and confused about the assembly of the spacers on the rear wheel. I read the posts on the tech pages about the spacers but I have a thick spacer not shown in those photos. I've highlighted it below. Where does it go? (I have the nut and washer for the other side) http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/gaillarry/VentureAxleSpacers-1.jpg
7. I'm going to help a friend intall his rear tire on his 1986 venture, and is there a proper way of install the washer/ spacers on the axle. Does anybody have photo or a diagram. thanks in advance
8. Ok, been reading up on the install on the springs and there is some good stuff about installing progressive springs, the problem i have and cant find the answer to is how long and what size is the pvc spacer is, the springs i got came out of of a set of forks and they had no spacers in them, do you realy need the spacers ? it said to cut the spacer in half that came with springs, sence i did not buy these new and there was no spacer in there to begin with i am lost, does the space go on the top or the bottem, help if you will.
9. SO one of the spacers is missing (the bolt kindly stayed in the trunk) that stands the saddlebag off the frame... Anyone have a good replacement suggestion other than ordering one from the (notoriously slow and expensive) Yammy Parts Shop?? Can I get something similar at a local hardware store?
10. I sometime get tired of how quickly the trunk becomes a mess on a trip. Last year at the Roundup in Cody, Iowawegian (Gary and Deb) had some pouches in the trunk that allowed them to keep things where they could get them easily. I liked that!! I've been looking online for something that would go in my '86, with no luck. So, last night I decided to do something..... I took a piece of Lexan I had in the garage and cut two pieces to fit the width, height and curvature of the trunk bottom. I used adding machine tape rolls as spacers and with four bolts to hold it together. A little stick on velcro to hold it in place to the rear of the trunk but still allow it to be removed. (I was going to install only the rolls as spacers but Jan reminded me of how often we or someone asks if someone has a piece of paper and pen, so I left it on to use up on the road) This isn't everything I would want but in the mean time it creates two pockets in the back corners and three more between the plastic to help hold things in place and there is still room for my helmet inside. http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/?action=view&current=IMG_0684.jpghttp://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/86%20Venture%20Rt%20Faring/IMG_0684.jpg Dave
11. I am going to install a set of Kuryakyn 6261 flame ISO grips. I have the info from here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28613 that shows how to trim the grips to fit the weights, but what do I need to do as far as spacers and such? If I open up the ends of the grips, is that all that is needed? Do I still need longer bolts? anything for the throttle?
12. as many members here have done, i purchased the bolt kits for my saddlebags that make it easier and quicker to remove the bags from my venture without tools. however, after chasing the bolts and the washers and the rubbers and the spacers all over the garage floor as you move the bags from the bike to the bench for cleaning or whatever?? i came up with a simple sullution to keep the junk together! these are common to the automobile and bodyshops and called retainer clips that held the emblems on the fenders of cars, before they started gluing everything on. also called star washers, and can be purchased at most hardware stores. put all your spacers washers rubbers and stuff into place on the bags and then stick this retainer over the end of the bolts to keep everything together. works, and it's cheap!
13. I purchased a set of floorboards for my 88VR from a member here quite some time ago and just never had the spare time to put them on. I am taking a road trip next week and decided today to make the time to get them on so I could find out if they were more comfortable than the pegs (been reading the pros and cons in other threads). Well I removed the pegs and started putting the floorboards on and came to realize I am missing 2 of the chrome spacers that go between the frame and the floorboards. I got 2 of them, don't know if I didn't get them and lost them or just didn't get them, makes no difference, I don't have them now and I need all 4 to install the boards. I mic'd the ones I do have and 1 is 22.30 MM and 1 is 17.75 MM thick. I'm not sure what all of the thiickness needed are but if anyone has these 2 spacers I am missing and would be willing to part with them please give me a shout. The spacers are 25.30 MM across and have a 10.5 MM hole in the center of them.. I am attaching a photo of a set of boards I got from yet another member that was helping me to understand how to install these. You'll note in this picture there are a total of 4 spacers. I didn't get any of the bolts with the boards either but those aren't a problem as I can get those locally at Lowes or Home Depot. Thanks in advance for everyones helpas always...This is a great site.
14. Does anybody know if the 1.5 inch riser inserts (the ones that stack on the stock risers) will work on the 99 Venture? I see there are 2 rubber spacers between the handle bars and the faring. If I raise the bars the rubber spacers will no longer make contact with the bars. Is this a concern? And is there an alternative aside from purchacing new handle bars?
15. Seems like I remember reading a thread about passing light spacers. Can't seem to find it in search. I want to get one, so can any one of you point me in the right direction?
