Comming home from the farm, after a hard day of putting a new roof on a barn (with all the harnesses and ladders that entails) my hired hand and I encountered a rather erratic pair of bikers. The lead biker must have thought that weaving 15 feet off of my rear bumper at 55 MPH was going to impress me. Personally... The first thought I had, was to hit the brakes to get him off of my six... I didn't, as I ride bikes myself. They both passed on solid double lines and subesequently drove past them about 5 miles down the road, as they had pulled into a Bar...????????? Sorry for the rant... some of the "motorcycle accidents we read about" , are self imposed.....

Currently doing the second gear major and planning on solid motor mounts for the re-install. Is there a downside to the delrin mounts vs solid metal? They claim to be heat tolerant and provide all the advantages of solid mounts without the vibration. Sounds good but I'd like to hear from some who are using them. Thanks for all the good advice so far...

I am having a very noticeable rattle under the bike and I am trying to determine if it is a loose baffle. I have another collector that I had a sleeve welded on where one of the pipe connections had broke off and when I look into the muffler tube hole I can see what looks like a baffle. When I stick a foot long rod in and peck on the baffle, it is solid. When I pulled the right muffler off, where the knock seems loudest, and did the same thing on the collector on the bike, it also seems to be mounted solid. It there another baffle in there that I am not seeing or feeling that could be loose? RandyA

I'm boing through the brake system on my "83. Since it has been setting up for a very long time, the calipers are forze solid. What is the best way to break the pistons loose without damaging them?

between MK I and MKII? I got all these parts for the 83 and now I just bought 88 wondering if any of these will fit (I'm thinking yes to all) collectors? solid motor mounts? condor superbrace? carb diaphrams? antidive block off plates?

Well guys, I just got my new Rivco hitch installed on the Wing, along with a Rivco rack. Pretty slick. Installs not too bad, good instructions, and the thing is rock solid. The rack will work great for carrying a small cooler (or an additional bag for luggage if we need it. Great product. I'm very pleased with it! I'd been looking at the Packit Rack, which is pretty cool, but the Rivco setup does the same thing, is more solid and gives the "option" for hauling a trailer if I ever decide I need it.

Good day. I am about to tear into my bike to do a few, (hopefully last in a while), fixes and tunes. While I was in there, (taking the thing apart is getting old), I want to change to solid motor mounts. Where is a good place to get them for a reasonable price? Thanks.

For those of you putting the solid motor mounts in the 1st gens, I have encountered a minor issue with them. The solid mounts are interfering with the upper spacer that goes between them. The solid mounts are the exact same length as the stock rubber ones. They have a 1.10" dia. shoulder that fits through the mounting boss on the block. This 1.10" dia on the solid mounts is the same dia. to the end of the mount. This differs from the stock mounts. The stock set has another diameter reduction to .58" at .23" from small end. A comparison of the two mounts is shown in the 4th picture. On the upper front mount this smaller diameter is used to capture the Spacer, Engine Mount (2H7-15336-00-00, located in crankcase section of fiche). There is a welded on collar on each end of this spacer that fits over the small end of the stock mount. Shown in last picture. I really don't don't see a structural purpose for these two collars, so the solution seems to be to grind them back to allow the spacer to fit in between the new solid mounts. I think the spacer does perform a function by maintaining the distance between the two mounts, and not allowing the long bolt that passes through both mounts to pull the motor mount ears inward. Omitting this spacer could lead to one of the motor mount ears snapping when the frame is under stress. The other four mounts are fine as far as I can tell at this point. The block did require a very thorough cleaning to allow the solid mounts to be inserted. I used a dremel with a sanding drum on it to clean. This is a view of the upper mounts and the long bolt in place. The spacer rod is not installed yet in this picture. This is a view of the stock upper mounts with the spacer in place. Stock mount with spacer shown over small diameter. Spacer shown with solid mounts in block to illustrate length issue. View of solid mount next to stock MKII mount. MKI mounts differ slightly in that there is ribbing around the larger diameter rubber portion. View of spacer next to stock MKII mount. The welded on collar on the spacer is what can be ground down to allow use of spacer. Gary

At one time there was a print of all the dimensions for the solid motor mounts noted on here. I made a copy of it, but I not only can I not find the copy I made, but I also can not find the post that had the print noted. Does anyone have a copy of the print that has the dimensions noted? Thanks, RandyA

Well I finally got some solid motor mounts, a "CondorBrace", and a new Metzler all put on. I also repacked the swing arm bearings, cleaned all the bushings and installed zerks in the rear suspension. I also bought a chin cowl from Alabamacameo and got it installed today after I wrapped the front header pipes with header wrap to help cut radiant heat. I also took out the Y.I.C.S. and I have no more popping or coughing going on. Then I got my carb synchronizer from the guy in the big brown truck, so I synced the carbs this evening. Hopefully I'll have some new to me pipes late this week or early next week. This thing feels like a whole new bike! Much better handling. The solid mounts didn't seem to add any sort of vibrations. It even sounds a bit quieter with the headers wrapped. This winter I'll be putting the original engine back in so it will be getting some new gears to avoid the second gear issue. I'll also be adding a higher output stator and a spin on oil filter adapter. I'll have to make sure the valves are adjusted good while its out as well. About the only thing I can think of that's left on my to do list is to make a header style collector similar to the ones made by Markspipes. Unless of course one pops up for a reasonable price either on eBay, Craigslist, or on here. Now I just have to find the time to give it a good/quick wash before the big ride in Durand, WI. this Saturday. The 12 hour night shift really doesn't help give a bunch of extra time on my hands. Well here a few pics of the chin cowl that I got from Alabamacameo installed. It's a bit different than the ones I've seen on all the other 1st gens. I think it looks a bit sportier. Thanks, Bill

I got my Superbrace in the mail today. It's already on and looks good. Now I'm just waiting for my new rear tire to get put on and my solid engine mounts. I'm going through the rear suspension in the mean time and greasing up bushings and repacking bearings good. OH... I CAN'T WAIT!

My 01 rsv has a hitch on it, looks like a venturedad one but I do not have a stinger for it. So do I buy one from wally world that is solid or do they make a hollow one like the 2" on my truck. Richie R

Hello Everyone. New memeber here! I've got a problem with my 83' Venture. I put it to bed last season and the back brake worked fine. When I got it out this past weekend I found that I have nothing...nada...no brake pressure nothing. I've tried everything. I've read over the forum, but I'm still puzzled. I've added DOT3 brake fluid to all the master cylinders. I've tried bleeding the rear with a MightyVac and I can get fluid out (along with bubles) but still not brakes. I've taken everything appart. I've blown through all the hoses. They all seem solid, no leaks. The only place that I think might be a problem is the piston on the pump. (if that's what its called.) It makes a strange "sucking" noise. I'm just not sure if that's what its supposed to do. LOL Any help or advice would be great! Thanks, Jack H. in Akron Ohio

Saw this on a dune buggy that was powered by a bike engine. Minor machining to adapt flywheel to back side of pinion yoke. Make starter support good and solid. Looks like it would work on anything with a driveshaft providing you have a mounting point for starter.

OK - I'm tired of sitting...I want to put together the first Southern PA M&E of the year and am thinking Gettysburg. My problem is that April is booked solid so I can't commit to anything before May 2nd. Who's interested?

Ok it looks like a solid motor mount upgrade may fix the wobble problem on the first gens. That the feed back I'm getting from the poll on the subject and other thread research. Is this a Yamaha kit upgrade or an after market product? What about cost for parts? Is this a winter upgrade project or a weekend job? Any Pros and Cons to the upgrade or is everybody happy with the solid motor mounts? I need part #'s.Is the kit the same for an 84 and 89?

I purchased a 2004 RSV in the Fall of 2007 and just recently joined this forum. I am planning some add ons for the bike to prepare for two up riding once the Canadian winter leaves. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations around any solid wireless communications options? Something that both riders could listen to an ipod/communicate/ and know if the cell was ringing? Any luck with Bluetooth? Thought I might try this before buying wired technology. Appreciate any advice
