  1. Just wondering if anyone uses, an additive in there oil to help with the shifting? and/Or make the Engine run smoother?
  2. My engine sounds real loud while its sitting on the stand, is there a way to make the engine run smoother?
  3. My dad just bought a 1500. Its an 88 and silver, and me, being the persnickity young tyke wanted to take it out for a ride. Well, its less torquey than my 1200 VR. It does ride smoother though, but mine takes bumbs better What's your take?
  4. New guy here, just picked up my 2009 RSTD S today. Traded in my 2003 HD Electra Glide Classic for it. Road 100 miles so far and here is what I learned. Shaft drive is not as smooth. Forgot that. But it is reliable. The RSTD does vibrate some when applying power up hills and accelerating. Feels like it is coming from the rear /shaft. RSTD gearing is a little lower in fifth. That was a surprise. The RSTD stock seat is horrible. 1 hour and we were sore. Thought about the Butler mod but ordered a Mustang seat instead. Liked the one I had on the Harley a lot. The RSTD engine is very car-like compared to the chug - chug Harley V-twin. Very smooth and lots of power (which I did not sample much as I am in the break in period). The pipes are really quiet - that's a change. The RSTD seems to have a little more rake in the front end and turns a little different, but very nice and balanced. The shifting is considerably smoother than the Harley. The RSTD display is cool. I like it and it functions well. I always thought the Harley Guages were a little boring. The RSTD suspension is better. Smoother and takes bumps better. The hard cases are much nicer on the RSTD. The lids don't come off! The RSTD windshield is way higher, which I like because I am tall. The RSTD is a much tighter machine all around. The Harley is something of a bucket of bolts, even when running well and in good repair. I look forward to sharing more as I get used to this bike. I have already learned a lot from this site. Hope I don;'t get the chirp!
  5. It seems like the answer to every engine question on this forum is either "carb sync" or "Sea Foam". My bike is running fine, but at certain speeds/RPMs it seems kinda buzzy for lack of a better word, and I can feel a vibration in the handlebars. I think it should be smoother. I was wondering if there is a kind soul in the Knoxville area who has experience with syncing carbs and wouldn't mind helping me do mine.
  6. Hello everybody. Well I followed your advice about the vibration problem in the passenger seat. I bought the Morgan Carbtune Pro and I used it today. As you can see in the photos below, my #1&2 carbs were way off from each other as well as from #3&4 which were almost even. I also discovered the two vaccum caps were cracked and replaced them. Goose, I did what you said about working with them at about 1k and up around highway rpms. This carbtune works like a gem. It was well worth the $95 U.S. that it cost me. And that included Air shipment from Ireland which took only 9 days from the day I placed the order. The bike runs and feels totally different now. It starts easier, idles smoother, which had to be lowered considerably from where it had been, and now my RK pipes sound a lot smoother on deceleration than they did before. Hopefully I will also see some mileage improvement like others have after synchronizing their carbs. This bike had 24k on it when I bought it last August and I doubt it had ever even been checked. It has 28k on it now and I hadn't even thought about it until you good folks on this site put me onto it. I'll be checking it every oil change from now on as it will only take about 20 minutes to do it now that I'm familiar with the location of everything involved. Thanks again for all your help.
  7. I've been through the forum looking for info on oil for the 2nd Gen Ventures. I recently did an oil change and used Yama Lube and a Yamaha filter no probs. I've not seen much information of people using Synthetic oils in the bikes like you would on other bikes. (05 VStar has been running nicely on AMSOIL, smoother, quieter and cooler). In regards to the 'whine' of the engine, would synthetic oils quell this down a tad more? Or are synthetics not recommended on these bikes for a certain reason or another? CHeers
