    Learn my lesson today

Had a leaking valve cover gasket dealer said they could do it or I could, if they did it, it would have been cover under warranty, like a idiot I said no I would do it hardest part is remving the tank.... WRONG....All day doing that gasket just putting on and keep in the slot as I installed it was a PITA....Never again it will be at the shop next time.. Never seen one that hard to put on I'm sure there is a trick to it..
  2. I just discovered a wiring slot inside the right side of the faring (89 VR) to the outside towards the battery so one does not have to cut a hole in the faring. Has anyone else found it also or was I just blind.
  3. I decided a few months ago that I wanted to get the tall OEM windscreen out of my way temporarily and allow the wind to cool me a bit during the summer months. After riding for a few weeks with no windscreen at all, I decided I wanted at least something mounted on the fairing to fill the slot. A secondary thought was to maybe mount a shorty windscreen for appearances sake. Not really having any desire to purchase a brand new full-size windscreen (to cut down), I placed a "part wanted" ad here on the site for one that I could cut down to the size I wanted. A Venture brother in California saw my request and shipped me an old one for the cost of shipping. I received his old one and measured off an 8" rise from bottom to top on the older screen. I overlapped my OEM screen over the replacement and used the upper edge of mine to grease-pencil the upper curve to provide me a cut-line. I cut the excess screen off using a high-speed abrasive cutting disc and a die-grinder, leaving about 1/8" extra outside my grease-pencil line. I then polished that down exactly with another abrasive sanding disc, in the same die-grinder. I then rounded all edges with an air-sander and mounted the freshly re-sized windscreen to my fairing. It looks great and does exactly what I want. Allows enough air to keep me aerated, yet fills the slot and keeps the appearance sharp. Just finished and mounted it yesterday, so I haven't had it out for a major highway ride yet. So not sure if it's low enough to avoid throwing a buffet into the middle of my face, but it can be shortened again if necessary. I'd rather have it too short than too tall. I'll post pics ASAP
  4. I just got a Monster brand iEZclick Ipod remote and it works GREAT. Waterproof and has a thick rubber body with a slot down the back to make it easy to mount. http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:gJQhAkZMAe3nNM:http://www.freshpilot.com/wp-content/images/monster_iezclick_ipod.jpg I'm making a bracket that slides into the slot in back and bolts to one of the mounting bolts on the brake cyl on the throttle side of the handlebars. Simply rotate a thumb up and press the button you want. Glove friendly buttons as well. got mine for $18.00 on amazon.com I'm thinking of getting another one to mount one back by the queen seat to give her the ability to change songs.
  5. Ok - How many have installed their MAC mufflers? I got mine with the last group purchase. They came in pre-rusted for me. Condor got them sent back for another set. The second set won't hang correctly. I had to die grind one slot (left) to get vertical alignment. It needed to go up. Would have rather ground the right to go down but there would not have been a slot left! Now as I look, the left muffler sticks out from under the bumper about an inch. The right is recessed under about the same. Maybe I am too picky. However I notice it when I look at the rear of the bike. Anyone else encounter problems or am I looking crooked? The stock mufflers fit perfect, I put them back on just to measure!! JB
  6. Seems like this shouldn't be too difficult, but I am having a terrible time trying to loosen up the timing plug on my 83 VR. Any tips? I tried fitting a nickel into the slot, fit well but ended up bending the nickel instead of backing the plug out. Appreciate any help!
  7. Hi fellow RSTD riders! There's a projector on the bottom of the stock seat that should slip into a slot on the frame. This stabilizes the back of the seat. I have had the darndest time getting the projector into the slot. Its almost impossible. Its so hard to see whats going on, but just wondered if anyone else had a problem like this and what might be done about it. Thanks, Jim:confused24:
