Hey folks, I need your expertise. Today my wife and I took a quick ride to grab a bite, and basically clear the cobwebs before we start another weeks work. As I was pulling out of the neighborhood, going through the gears getting up to speed, in 4th gear the bike revved a little and it sounded like clutch slippage. It was so quick and faint that I wasn't sure that I had actually experienced it. then we stopped at a red light. As we pulled away from the light, in 3rd or 4th, I can't remember which gear, it did it again. This time I felt for sure that it was clutch slippage. A mile or so after that, we hit an entrance ramp and got on the freeway. After I clicked it into 5th, and was throttling up to 70 mph, it revved again. From that point on it never did again. While we were eating, I remembered that a couple weeks ago when I rode it last, it had done the same thing once as I was pulling out of our neighborhood, but then didn't do it again the rest of the day. I thought then that I had imagined it, but not today. I know what I experienced today. So, my question is, 3 weeks ago I changed the oil, and for the first time I used synthetic oil, could the synthetic oil be causing slippage? The bike is a 2007 RSTD with 24k miles and has been perfect up until now. Please advise.

Ok. I just experienced a wierd feeling in the clutch which i assume is "clutch slippage". I have a 2000 with 34,000 miles. I have done some reading on here and am wondering a few things... 1. Will a new spring stock sping make a difference? I read one post where someone tried the "heavier" spring and ended up replacing it back with a new "stock" spring. 2. Do i need to replace more than a sping? It only has been slipping in 5th gear with a lot of throttle. 3. What exaclty causes this defect? I have owned old GW and never talk of clutch slippage. Thanks, Larry

I rarely post as I search all the time! Since I've joined, I have had help syncing my carbs, learned where to get a backrest (Utopia) just ordered, Found out about the slight clutch slippage and ordered Skydoc_17's upgrade kit and just had fun. Thanks for being such an easy going site.

I have been experiencing a weird problem with my 1st gen, and I need some input from the pros . did a full cleaning , flush and rebuild of the system. the clutch is fine , after about 200 miles the clutch pressure builds in the system causing no release (high lever) and clutch slippage, I break open the bleeder and let a little out and I'm back down the road with no slippage. I have rechecked , reblead, and have no leaks. all stock levers and MC. no air in the system. any Ideas guys ?. to me it seams like a venting problem ? any one else ever have this ?

Just changed my oil in my 87 Venture and got it down the road and started to have clutch slippage. I have reserched the site and have seen that you are not to use auto grade oil ( I used Castrol 10w-40 auto). Can I simply drain this oil out and replce it with Rotella Diesel oil or are the friction plates ruined and need replacing? Please let me know. Thanks!!!

I have noticed slippage from what i think is the clutch when i shift from 1st to 2nd under hard acceleration (full throttle). If i back off the throttle it is ok, seems like it grabs then it is good to go. This also will happen going from 2nd to 3rd but only under the same conditions. I usually ride conservatively but sometimes I like to hit it once in awhile for a little stress relief. My bike has 30,000 miles on it and it is an 86 model. Time for a new clutch? If that is needed then I take it that it will need new springs and a pressure plate also. How tough will it be to get to the slave cyl that seems to be buried in the block, since i will rebuild this also?
