Can any CD player be used in 1st Gens? Just wondering cuz of the position it has to be installed in. Those of you who have them...any serious skipping issues or is that a thing of the past with newer automotive players?

I was out browsing at my local Yamaha dealership this morning and they had a 2002 or 2003 Venture sitting there, I opened the door for the cassette player and noticed that there's a small hole on the right hand side, probably where you'd plug in your iPod? Once your iPod is plugged in, can you operate your volume up and down from the handlebar controller? How about skipping over to next song, is that something else that is possible using the handlebar controller? Also, how would you rate the sound quality that's on the Venture's stereo? And is it loud enough to keep up with wind noise at higher speeds? It must sound pretty good I would think, especially since there's even a pair of speakers located at the back of the bike too.

My Bike does not have the factory CD player. I was thinking of putting one in but not quite sure I want to give up the space in my Trunk or saddlebags also curious how well they work on a motorcycle as far as skipping? Was wondering if anyone had any input on this like if you have 1 and had it to do all over would you install another?

I recently purchased an 83 Venture, and yesterday was my first real opportunity to put some miles on it. When I test rode the bike, it was not plated so I had very little room to drive... just around a small parking lot. Having been forewarned of the 2nd gear issue, I checked as best I could. During my short bursts of 15 seconds each, second was always there. So, I rolled my eyes a bit yesterday when I pulled away from the very first stoplight on my morning commute and then jerk/jerk/quick-reaction-to-shift-into-3rd/back to velvet smooth. My question is this : I found the rebuild thread and I am confident I could pull it off... but conceivably how long could I run this bike just skipping second all together ? In just one day of riding, it became second nature. Is there any further damage that can happen ? BTW, I LOVE this bike. I had my doubts, but WOW. It's sat for a while and still isn't fully tuned but I was astonished at how smooth and powerful it was.

Dunno what's going on lately but whenever I play one of those embedded vids, my PC totally freezes. No mouse, no keyboard....nothin. and the vid sounds like a music cd when it's skipping .... anyone else having this problem or know what's causing it? This only started recently.

My 83 standard has been skipping in 2nd, hasn't been i big problem kinda planned on fixing it this winter. Last night though me and wife went for a ride and i lost first gear. skipping 2nd is easy but skipping 1st and 2nd riding double is tough! I'm guessing it really won't be that much more to fix it all than just 2nd but i thought I'd see what people here thought about about it. I'd really rather have a royale with adjustable air ride for switching between riding double and solo. Other than the tranny though the bike runs great plastic has a lot of broken tabs but doesn't seem to be anything to bad. Biggest thing is i don't really want to quit riding yet this year and if i can get the parts to fix it i'm guessing i could do that faster than parting it and buying a "new" one.
