I have a 2009 RSV OD at 30,000 I think my fuel pump has gone out. I can ride a quarter of a mile and then it will shut off as if it is not getting fuel. I stop and tap on it and it will go again. If your fuel line is disconected and no fuel in the lines should your fuel pump run and run or should it shut off after a few seconds. As this is what mine is doing. Thanks for reading this. Hope I can get some answers. By the way my bike is still under warranty, I just hate to take it to the dealership. Hal

I took the Brown fox for an Autumn ride today Ii got about 12 miles from home when I notice a cloud following me. I pull off the road and the fox is smoking like crazy. i shut her off and climb off to see oil dripping out of the(I think) tranny case rather quickly. Its running down onto the collector box and onto the ground. I shut the engine off and the oil stream slows an stops. I start the engine and it starts to flow again. I call a tow truck and take it home. The questions i have: 1.) is there a drain plug on the bottom of the tranmission and could it have worked loose. If not, outside of a possible cracked engine case what else could have caused this leak. To actually be able to see the underside of the engine i'll have to pull the collector box. before i do i need to know if its worth it and what i might find under there. Special note: For the last few weeks the engine started making an internal rattling noise while idling on the side stand.. If its not fixable then I'll either start piecing it out or sell it outright for parts. but before i do that I hope to know if its salvage able. Please help guys and gals.

Hello I am new here and was wondering if anyone has ever has had a problem with the starter not ever going off? I took my starter switch apart and am unable to figure out how to put it back together also. Even with the starter switch apart it still turns over and will not shut off! Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks you alll so very much in advance.

How do you turn a fox into an elephant? Marry It! What is the difference between a battery and a woman? A battery has a positive side. Why is the space between a woman's breasts and her hips called a waist? Because you could easily fit another pair of tits in there.. How do you make 5 pounds of fat look good? Put a nipple on it. Why do women fake orgasms ? Because they think men care. What do you say to a woman with 2 black eyes? Nothing, she's been told twice already. If your wife keeps coming out of the kitchen to nag at you, what have you done wrong? Made her chain too long. Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman? Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you. Why do women have smaller feet than men? It's one of those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink. Why do men pass gas more than women? Because women can't shut up long enough to build up the required pressure. If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, who do you let in first ? The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in. Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by90%.. It's called a Wedding Cake. Why do men die before their wives? They want to. My wife sent this to me so I hope we are at PG I think it is but it made me laugh

Went for a ride on Sat, and shut the bike down when I got home to the driveway. Opened the garage door and started the bike to pull it in. Got the bike in place, shut it down and then immediately tried to re-start it. I got a series of clicks and then all the electical shut down. No headlights, no spedo display, nothing. Waited ~20 seconds trying to think what the issue was, and then, all the electrical (including headlights) came back on. Trying to start it at that point, once again gave me the clicking noises and an electrical shut down. Waited another 20 seconds and once again, all the electrical returned (including headlights). I have passing lamps on the bikes and a Stebel air horn with a relay. No other electrical mods. Any ideas on what the issue may be? The dealer replaced the battery when I bought it the bike used in 2009. Claims he put a new battery in it, which would make this the 3rd season on the battery. I run ~10k miles a year, mostly in 1hr rides. I searched the forum for similar posts, but didn't find anything relating these specific symptoms. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions. Heading to Americade in 2 weeks, would like to get this issue resolved ASAP. Bob

Hi All, I'm in the middle of a 6000 mile trip on my 86 Venture. This morning I found that my entire dash readout stopped working. No fuel, temp, tach, or volts. No Turn signals or stop light either. Headlights and running lights work fine. Starts and runs great. Put 400 miles in the desert today without a problem. Now heres where it get quacky. It WILL come on once in a while. It might stay on for 10 seconds or an hour. If I do anything that require power (Stop light, horn etc.) it will shut down again. At one point I hit the horn and the screen came back on!! It should be noted that when it come on it goes thru the diagnostic test just like turning the key on. It seems to be acting like a bad ground. Any Ideas?

I finally got my HD pipes on last night, went smooth as silk and no I did not drill them out and kind doubt I will like the sound like it is.. Only problem is the bike won't shut off it just :Venture: I believe the bikes has more power than when I drill out the OEM pipes but that could just be me I would never drill another set of OEM pipes out..

Can you recommend a set of dial gauges for me? I think I am over the liquid sync type gauges. Watching that fluid go striaght up and needing to shut the bike off to stop it from sucking it in is a real pain.

There is a rattle in my exhaust that sounds like a piece of loose metal in the exhaust. While the bike is running, I was listening to the exhaust from both sides and it se4emed to be slightly louder on the right side. So I shut the bike off, and pulled the right side exhaust. After removing it, and checking for any debris in the muffler, I removed the left side and did the same. After ensuring both were clear, I fired the bike up while they were off. Without the mufflers, the rattle became more of a banging sound. I shut the bike off again, and raised it up. I took a rubber mallet and started tapping on the remaining parts of the exhaust and found that I could here the noise when I tapped on the exhaust chamber. My initial thought was that one or more of the inner pipes of the chamber had broke loose. I made the decision to try to locate a new or used chamber, so I could replace it and do away with the noise. I was unable to find a used one, and the new one I found was nearly $600.00. So I have ruled that out. I am wondering if there is any way to repair this or if anybody may have a spare. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

My other computer shut down and now when you try to turn it on it just says beeps and says Alert! previous shut down due to thermal event. Strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility. If you do F1 it shuts it back off. If you hit F2 it takes you to some wierd screen that tells about the computer. Does anyone know what is causing this and how to fix it?????

Hi Guys, I'm the new owner of an 85 venture. There is a weird thing going on with the neutral light. When you first start the bike it works as advertised. After you ride for a while and the bike gets hot the light will no longer work. Not only that but the bike no longer knows when it's in neutral. What I mean is even if the bike is in neutral and you put side stand down the bike will shut down as if it was in gear. If you let the bike cool down for a couple of hours and start it up the light works fine again and side stand will not shut off the bike if put down when in neutral. Any ideas??

I was wondering if I did shut off the headlight would the red light start flashing and would the high and low beam icon also start flashing....

I got home from our long trip to PA where I experienced a weird shut down which turned out to be a weird fuel pump issue. I was emailing a friend about it and he details to me how his bike is shutting down on the side of the road but restarting again after a few minutes. Strangely enough, I asked him if his signal lights are flashing fast to which he replied he 'thought' they had but they are not consistent. He's pretty sure they flashed rather fast when he was pulling over onto the shoulder when the bike conked out. I sent him the info of what happened to mine so he can see about getting his fuel pump checked out. I'm tempted to call the Yamaha tech reps to find out if these fast flashing signals are a trouble shooting diagnostics.. Hmmm I'm happy to report that after the fuel pump was replaced on my bike, it's been awesome and working so well that we even climbed Mount Washington on the way home.. Just had to do it because it was there.. (note: it's a much easier climb up now as they paved the last part up to the summit now.. there is only a short dirt section left.. but it's so easy to climb now.. )

Argh.. I have the bike tuned up, oil, air, plugs and synch'd and today experienced yet another mysterious shut down while riding.. First time was a few days ago while cruising 70 mph in 4th.. it simply switched off.. Pulled over.. started up again and everything was fine. 3/4 tank of gas, no incident with the next 5 tank fulls and 4 days.. Earlier today while doing errands, in city streets, the bike up and quit again.. huh? Wait a few secs on the side of the road and flashed it up OK and no probs riding it after that.. Highway, back roads and so forth.. In both instances I did not 'accidentally' hit the kill switch. The bike simply died. When it dies, it's almost feeling like the engine isn't making power and then nuttin.. bleh, dead. I'm heading out on a road trip to PA this sunday, I'd really like to know what gives.. Is it possible it's shutting down due to a thermal shut down switch or something? Engine getting too hot? I have plenty of green fluid in the bike.. though I seriously doubt it's ever been flushed since 06 (I'm the 3rd owner)..

My tape deck door will not stay closed anymore. Is this part of the deck or the faring? How hard is this going to be to fix? Or should I just glue it shut? Anyone have this problem before that can help would be great. I don't want to take it to my dealer.

We were on the return trip from MS and about 50 miles from home, doing 76 in the left lane - all of a sudden - the bike no-go no-mo. I thought at first the bike was out of gas, but switching to reserve made no difference. And the last I checked I had 3/4 of a tank. So as I eased over to the shoulder with a dead engine, I shut it off and turned it on again - nothing. Once stopped, I checked the battery - all connections were good and the battery was at 13.5v. All the fuses, including the 30 amp main checked out as well - nothing blown. I had no dash lights, headlights or turn signals with the key ON, but on ACC - the radio worked. I suspect it is the ignition switch, in part because when I had gassed up earlier and was pulling out from the station, I noticed the speedo, clock and fuel gauger were not working. I shut it of and turned it on and POOF - they all worked. Odd, I thought - but everything seemed OK. Then as I was going down the road, a couple times I felt a lack of of power - like she was missing or something. Then maybe 50 miles from home - she died. So the question is - is there a "brain box" on these bikes that could be out? Or is the ignition switch the most likely culprit? Or is there a bad connector or wire that commonly comes loose? I remember reading something on the site here about these switches going funky for other members. And if it is a bad switch - for those that have had it replaced - what is the cost range I can expect? (just so I can decide which arm & leg I can live without) And, as luck would have it - I broke down on Hwy 151 N - directly across the street from the Honda/Kaw dealer, and the owner happened to be in the shop on Sunday and came over to see if he could help. Not wanting to disassemble the bike completely on the side of the road, with a storm moving in, he went back and got his trailer and loaded my bike & trailer and put it in his shop. I'm awaiting the diagnosis from them today. Nice guy - he went out of his way for us. Beaver Dam Honda/Kaw for anyone nearby the area - if their mechanics are as good as the customer service the owner showed my wife & I - I'll drive out of my way to give him some business again. On purpose next time. So - useful insights, please - from those that have experience this issue.

There have been several members that have been burned by a fellow member in the VR classified section. I am sure that 99% of the members of this forum are good, honest people. I hate to see the other 1% screw up a good thing. My question is...should I mention this individual's name so that others can use caution in their dealings with him? Or, should I keep my mouth shut and not flame fellow members? I wouldn't be so bothered by this, but some people have lost considerable amounts of money to this guy. Let me know what you all think.
