Has anyone out there put on the aftermarket 4" shorter by 2.5" wider windshield? How does it compare to the OEM?

The other day I posted about a recent project I had done. My handlebars extention studs for the 1st gen bikes. I had a few responses that some of you were interested in them. It turned out Bob Myers had done something much like my studs back in '08, much shorter than mine are at 4 inches and he made his at a much higher level of quality than I was able to. He actually has the right tools!!! So I contacted Bob and we talked about it. He has offered to make some of these sets for the guys interested, if there are enough to justify setting it up. So in the exchange with Bob the questions discussed where the material and the big one was how long should they be? Bob is looking at using 1" aluminum in stead of the 7/8" I did mine out of. The one Bob did for his bike is the 1st picture. Mine are the second shot. Which one looks better? Hello Mr. Myers! With mine at 4" on the bars there is exactly 4" between the inner ends. Some of you were interested in shorter ones. So for those that are interested in a set, or one, or a handful post your preference for for how long you would want them on this thread and we shall see what the choices are and what can be done to get this rolling. I can't give any idea of what the cost might be until we hit on some specs for Bob. By the way..... these will probably not be available in wood at this time. Sorry. Let us know. Mike

Are the stock mufflers for an 83-85 different than the stock mufflers for the 86-93? If they are, what is the difference? Is the earlier ones a tad shorter than the 86-89?

Well it looks like my riding season will end on the 13th of september.. I will be going in for rotator cuff surgery. Riding season is short enough here in wisconsin this just makes it shorter.. :sick::sick:

and the living is easy. Well, summer got here at 1:16pm EDT today, but, it feels like it has been summer for weeks with this hot weather we are having. Now, we get to look forward to the daylight hours to start getting shorter. RandyA

Just lowered my 06 Venture front forks 1.5 inches had already installed the Barons lowering kit on the rear. Now the bike is finally level and handles like a Harley Ultra without the engine heat. I ride alot on the BlueRidge Parkway and use the scenic parking lots to park which are not level ground by no means. Does anyone know of another Yamaha kickstand only shorter that can bolt on an 06 Venture. Please don't recommend the Baron shorty stands--- they don't have the ground foot like Yamaha.

I just got a 99 RSV coming from a Kawasaki voyager. really like the bike so far. Now to my ?? The bike has 4' K40s on the bike now. I want to know if I can just swap them out and put on the Firestik 3' fireflys and a 3' firestik amfm3 for the radio. The antennas are working fine only to tall for the garage so I wanted something shorter, plus I like the look of a shorter antenna. Can I just unscrew the K40s from the Valor fold overs and install the firestiks?

Hello everyone. I'm brand new here. I have a 2006 RSV, and it's nearly perfect! I am thinking about getting a shorter windshield for summer riding. I love the big shield when it's cold, but I would like to feel a breeze when it's 90 degrees. I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on the shorter shields. I'm 6' tall, and I'm looking at either a 6" or an 8" windshield (measured from the front where the chrome meets the plastic). I'm mainly looking for guys (about my height) that have put on short windshields. I don't want to get a bunch of buffeting around my head, but I would like to "feel" some airflow. Thanks for any info.

I am thinking of putting a shorter windshield on our 08. I am sure that some of you have already done this modification. So my questions are. How short is your windshield ? If you ride two up, how does the shorter windshield effect your passenger ? Any other advise will be considered.

The only thing I do not like about my new (to me) 2006 RSTD is the very high windshield. I have always set my shields up so my line of sight is about 2 inches above the plexiglass for an undistorted view. This windshield seems about 5 inches too high for my 5 foot 9 inch frame. Have any of you folks cut down the stock shield? I also found out Yamaha makes a direct replacement unit that is 7 inches shorter....anybody have any experiance with the shorter shield?

after much searching and reading It would appear that I'm shorter than most (5'7" with a 28" inseam). Is there anyone close to my size who has either the Ultimate or Mustang seat and if so, what are your views. I'm also interested to hear what your passengers think of these seats. thanks Greg:97:

i am looking for new front tire for my 1st gen and found this ? Dunlop Elite 3 130/70HB-18 Front GL1500 i know 1stgs use a 130 / 90 but dos a 70 have a shorter side wall than a 90 ? what do every body think ? Thom

Does anyone ride with a shorter wider windshield? I am considering the purchase of a wider and shorter tinted shield but i'm not sure I will like riding on long trips with it. Also I am not sure of the way it looks. If anyone here rides with one can you please post a pic, and tell me what height it is possibly? Maybe some pro's and cons of it too? Ordered a 1200 # lift and after 5 weeks finally got it. Well here is the problem it's roughly 8 inch's shorter then the 1000 # lift. The bike won't fit in the vise and fit the table. I didn't know this until I tried it out for size. A buddy has the 1000 # lift and the bike fit just fine. Called him about the size and he confirmed it is 8 inch's shorter. Has anybody bought the 1200 # lift and made it work? I think I might be able to modify it but I'm concerned that the vise will have to be moved too far foward and create a front heavy tip hazzard. Any ideas or input ? I don't really won't to go thru the hassle of returning it and getting another lift.

Well after 9 weeks my now clearview shield came in today. I bought the Med. 3" shorter then stock. I took it out of the box and it is a bet shorter then I thought it would be. It is hard to tell until I get it installed hope it not to short .Now for my question, there was 2 small pieces of rubber about 3" long could anyone tell me where these go? I think it may be on the short lip that is on each side of the shield but not sure. has anyone installed on on there bike lately? :7_6_3[1]::7_6_3[1]:

1) Do you deal with a squeaky front brake? If so, how do you fix it? 2) Does anyone have the Clearview Shield? I am curious about the one 4" shorter than stock, and if there is increased buffeting for either yourself, or your passenger. I am looking at the shorter one so I can see over it if I need to. The stock one is just too high for me, and here in Alabama, it gets dang hot in the summer time, a little wind in the face would be nice.

This includes the dual touring seat and both passenger and driver backrests. They're used but in very nice condition. They'll sit you a little lower and back from the stock seating position. The seat is narrower in the front so it may help guys with shorter legs reach the ground at stops (I'm 6'1" so I can't say for sure how much it would help a shorter rider). Hi all, My '83 VR came with a pitted windshield, which can't be bettered with anything that I've tried. Whatever it is, it is there to stay. So I am interested (depending on what the cost would be) of replacing it. However, the present shield is of a height which is a little uncomfortable for me. The top edge of it cuts smack-dab through the middle of my sight, and I find myself either raising my head to view over it, or lower my head to look out beneath it. I would like to get one somewhat shorter than the one I have. Would anyone know of a place where I might be able to get a hold of shorter, used one? And maybe offer direction to where a new one might be looked into, providing that there is no info on a used one. Advanced thanks. -
Hey Guys, I have a 2007 RSV.....would like to change up the antennea as I find them too tall and i bang them in enclosed trailer when i pull it in. Questions are...what is the black round thing mid way down on one of the antennea? and can i just go to Canadian Tire and replace them with shorter car antennae? Will i loose reception when I change them for smaller ones? Is there any disadvantages by changing them out. And does anyone now where to buy shorter ones? Thanks again for all your great responses over the years. This website is so powerful.

I am now using the Sirius radio and so far I really like it. One thind I do not like is the Antenna length (Cable) One that came with the unit has a cable about 20 ft long. Way too much speghetti on the Handle bars. Anyone know of a antenna with a shorter cable or is there a way to shorten the cable down to about 1 ft or less just for the bike? I noticed they make a shorter one for the XM (which I dont have) but will the antenna work with the sirius? Help!
