I know that there are other threads for adding lights. I will be using what I feel are the best of the ideas that I have found on this site and others. This is going onto my 88 Venture, (not a Royal) you may need to modify this procedure for your scoot. This project may last all winter as I acquire parts and install them. I will post pics but some buffoon left my camera on my desk at work. The first project is to illuminate the reflector that is on the trunk. I plan to make it a combination of running stop and turn lights. Step one is to figure out how to get the reflector off the trunk. It is mounted with 3 small screws from the inside of the trunk. Sounds easy huh, NOT!!! There is also a piece of double sided tape at each screw plus one more pirce at each outer tip. They used some REALLY strong tape. After a bunch of head scratching and a few failed methods what finally worked was to slide a sheet of .008 thick sheet steel up from the bottom and use the sharp corners to cut through the tape. This worked great and got it off with no damage to anything. Next getting the reflector off of the back. More head scratching to do.

20 hours to tentative departure (minus time to post this) for 3 week east coast trip and I find a missing piece of plastic and cracked plastic around backrest to trunk connection last night. I've read of this problem somewhere, should have payed closer attention to these threads. Get right to it, looking for any advice next 12 hours for temp fix to get thru trip & NYRally. Materials I've picked up : A pint of 2 part Dominion Plastic repair Rigid Flex Bonder, JB Weld putty stick, PF230 pinch&bond weld primer, 14 gauge sheet metal. Plan is to cut 2 pieces sheet metal, one for the missing piece and a large one to replace the existing metal plate and cover the entire cracked area from the inside. I've worked on small areas prior with the Dominion plastic. Not to sure about the long term affects on plastic using the PF250, so might drop that step. Any suggestions welcome (1st gen one liners:no-no-no:) Off to cut up some sheet metal... Will check back periodically. thanks Max

I know my 84 has Mikuni Carbs. Is there a series, model, or part number for them? I'm trying to locate which rebuild kit to get and secondly (and most importantly) some sort of instruction sheet on how to rebuild. I have seen something on Mikuni SBN seres but I can't tell from the pix if this is what my 84 has.

I had a 2foot by 2foot sheet of stainless steel I laid down on my wood garage floor to put the bike on the center stand for an oil change. While walking to the tool box I bumped into the bike and it moved about 6 inches. To my surprise I can rotate the bike 360 degrees with just one hand on the stainless plate.I took another piece and put under my 84 now I have 2 turntables.Works great.PS....I tried a sheet of aluminum but I guess it is too soft and did not work for me.

Based on the finding that Vmax exhaust valves are adjusted to a different setting than Venture exhaust valves I have created a separate Excel work sheet for those that use the Vmax heads. Attached below. The Venture work sheet is in the Tech library at the link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43410 Gary

I updated the speed calculation sheet I had posted a while back. I can't find the thread so I started a new one. I added a feature to be able to display speeds in Kilometers/Hour. Also modified the tire size inputs a little. I got a new rear tire and found it was easier to measure circumference accurately than it was to measure diameter. Added correction factor for wheel slippage in each gear. The password to unlock the sheet is dingy if you are an excel guru and want to play with it. Only locked it as it is easier for user if only cells that need input are editable. Gary

I had a good idea and showed it to 86er when he was in Arkansas. I ordered a trunk back rest to match the one on my 86 VR off ebay. I cut a square piece of sheet metal and attached it to the Yamaha driver back rest on my bike now both match and it is alot more comfortable. Had to grind the rivets out of the bracket of the small back rest to bolt on the larger rest. Just an idea....

I bought one of these items a few years ago. Never used it on the road. So I decided yesterday to try it on an old section of tire, just to see how it would work. Seem's to work great, just followed detailed instruction sheet. I took photo's, of the process, might be of Interest to those folks who are pron to haveing flat tires.

Anybody have a source for polished T304 Stainless Steel Sheet 20 or 22 GA. in #8 or Super #8 mirror finish? I am looking for a cut piece of 24"x24" dimensions. I usually get my specialty metal through onlinemetals.com, but they just offer #4 brushed and no possibility of ordering small quantities of #8. The local steel yards will just order huge quantities for architectural purposes. Thanks in advance, Klaus
