Picked up a blue 83 Venture today. Going to be known as Papa Smurf. Looks better in pictures than it does close up, but he is 29 years old. Serial # shows it is the 45th one built in this series. Its not a Royale, but the serial number is a different prefix than my standard 83 Venture. But it does have a Royale instrument cluster on it. Lots of aftermarket chrome on this one. Has a 2nd gear problem, but I think I have a short block 1300 motor lined up to fix that. Don't know what I am going to do to this wonderful machine, can't see letting it languish in this state though. One of the first things to go is going to be the drivers floor boards. I can't see liking that heel toe shifter. Probably won't due much with it for a while. Speedy (soon to be renamed Tweety Bird) is getting prepared for a new paint job, going to be bright yellow soon. Second Gear Question
Jayceesfolly posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hello: I am looking at a '85 VR to buy for parts, and am considering restoring it instead. It runs well, just needs cosmetic work. Anyway, I am not sure if this bike has the second gear problem and would like to know if I can trace the serial number to see if it has the problem. The owner does not have any info on the problem and is not familiar with the second gear problem. I thought I saw a discussion in this forum about serial numbers and model years but can't find the thread, either in General Discussions or the 1st Gen Tech Section. Does anyone remember the thread and, if not, can I go to Yamaha with the serial number to check and see if this bike has the newer harder washers or pins installed? Thanks for any help Jim- 4 replies

I need a A-Coil for my Nordyne piece of JUNK. House A/C furnace Unit. Don't want to toss whole thing now but have leak in A-Coil. Only name I have ever known it by. AC coil that sits under the furnace in the inside unit. I think this is a bolt in item and could probally save bucks just to replace it myself. Going to have to be recharged anyway but I can't find the thing anywhere. The coil itself is Model # C30A-O24U-B Serial # C309902-57709 Furnace is a Nordyne Model #M1GC070ABW Serial # M1G990200397 Anybody Know anything about this? Getting hot here!! I've had to cut chasing the Warden in 1/2.

I have an emachine (yeah I know all the past unreliability about it before emachine was bought out). I bought it in 2005 and I will say that ever since I have owned it, it has been a very reliable machine (until now). Of course I don't use it for much else other than surfing the web and storing photos. I really don't have use for a computer beyond that. It started acting really slow. Antivirus and spybot didn't pickup on anything. So I decided it was time to wipe the hard drive clean and start over. I backed everything up (including the recovery partition) to my USB HD and used the recovery partition. For whatever reason it didn't work and the pc kept freezing. I also have Norton Ghost which I saved an image a couple months ago. I restored the image and that didn't work (usually does). I tried burning the recovery partition files to a dvd-r and see if it will boot from pc and recover from there. That didn't work. I contacted emachine to see if I could get a recovery cd as one was not provided when I bought it brand new. Well come to find out that if it was manufactured prior to 2006 (mine was in 2005) that they didn't supply recovery cd's. What I did find out that the last 2 digits of the serial is the year built. So for me the last 2 are 50, which stands for 2005. I guess my fault on not creating a restoration cd. They give you the opportunity to do it when you boot the pc, but for whatever reason I decided not to. I don't have $100's for a new pc, or a new HD and OS. I have seen the OS's on e-bay for dirt cheap, but honestly I don't trust them enough to buy from there in cases like this. So what I am asking is anyone else has an emachine if you can check your serial to see if yours was manufactured 2006 and after. If so can you PM me your serial so I can order a recovery cd? I have XP home edition. I can't use Vista. It is a system hog and my pc won't be able to handle it. I know how to get a free copy of XP, but honestly I want a legal copy. Thanks. Jerry

It's been my understanding that all the '83 1200TDK Royale's came in Gold, and the standard 1200TD's came in Red, plus a Black Midnight. That's what it also says for the colors in the tech section. Well guess what kimosabe?? I just bought a 1983 1200TDK in RED.... The born on date shows 10/83, but the serial number is a low DA000316. From the date I thought it might be possible to have a late '83 model that had received '84 clothing. But the serial number says it's the 216th Royale built? I like to play detective and figure things out by looking at the clues, but this thing has me stumped??? It's definately rare...

OK, looking through the manual, I see that there are different beginning serial #'s for the XVZ12. There is JYA26H (TK), mine is a 41R (L), 41V (DL), 47R (KC2), 47T (DKC2), 31M (TDK). Does anyone know the difference or what the different enumerators stand for? I'm just passing time and was wondering. Might help for parts ID. Dan

New tires built after 2000 will have a time stamp in the serial number. Example 1506 means the tire was mfg the 15th week of 2006. Good info to know when buying off the shelf tires.
