So today I may have done a monumentally STUPID move. My new Parts bike has very nice & comfortable heavy grip with the V on the end weights of I decided to swap them out. The parts bike grips came off fairly easy. I took off the OEM ones from the left side of my bike w/o issue. The one on the throttle would not really budge. I twisted it to full throttle & gave a little more umph. Nothing ridiculous, & I heard "CLICK" now when I turn the throttle I hear a scraping noise at a certain point. ( & yes it does bind slightly & not snap back all the way) BTW I did get the grip of by using compressed air & blowing it off. (shudda done that 1st) I am assuming that I may have snapped a few strands inside on the cable since it still works & what I hear is the broken strands scraping the cable cover. 1. How difficult is this to replace? 2. Since I heard the click after turning to full throttle, would it be the cable on the front of the grip? 3. How much of a PITA is this to replace & how much of the bike will I have to tear down AGAIN? It never ceases to amaze me how I can CREATE problems to fix. The plus point is I have the parts bike with full replacement parts on hand.

Okay. So I'm out in the garage doing the clutch upgrade. It looks really simple and straight forward. HOWEVER, the old gasket is brittle and stuck pretty good most of the way around. (like 99% of the way around). Does anybody have any old gasket removal tricks, or am I just stuck carefully scraping for a while? I'm gonna go scrape for a while, then come back and check for answers. I'm using a glass scraper (handle with a safety razor blade that locks in place. thanks. dana

Yesterday I went ou to run some erands and the bike was feeling great. On the way home apperantly I took the turn into my sub-division a little sharper than I ususlly do and it finally happened. I drug the right floorboard. In all the years I have been riding I've never had anything on the ground except the tires and my feet. It sure did get my attention. The scraping sound sent chills up my spine and I think my heart skipped a beat. Now I know what the limit is on my bike and what to expect when it happens.

I had a scraping noise on my '84 Venture earlier this sping. It was suggested that I clean and grease the driveshaft. Did that and it was needed. I thought maybe the noise seemed to go away but now its back. I can feel a scrape (in the floorboards) when I am crawling forward in first gear. Does my driveshaft need to be done again ? What about the U-joint ? Has anyone had this problem and traced it to a bad U-joint ? Any other ideas ?

My 89 VR is beginning to give an intermitant scraping in the rear brake. I'm not sure what starts it, maybe bumps in the road, or what makes it go away again. It is still there with the clutch disengaged, but goes away when the brake foot peddle is applied, returns when the peddle is released. The rotar doesn't feel scared, and the caliper assembly feels solidly attached. Is it likely just pads worn out? Is there anything else I should be looking at when I start taking it apart. I've got the rear caliper schematic so feel free to quote ref. #'s if you want. As well, any suggestions for after market or well priced brake parts online?

The weather finally warmed up enough to take my "new-to-me" '84 Venture for a spin. Everything seems fine except for an occasional scraping noise when the bike is rolling slow (coming to a stop or moving around in my garage). Not sure if it disappears with a little more speed or if I just can't hear it. Don't think it's the brakes. Anyone come accross this ? (I sure don't want to have a wheel lock up on me at 100 kph or something like that.)

Now that I have your attention:whistling:................ I didn't really get a new bike:whistling:, but I put the smaller size Avon tire on the front and it feels like a new bike:clap2:. Many thanks to member BREAKING PARTS for meeting me on a Sunday morning and mounting my new tire for me. Today is the 1st time that I have had a chance to play with the new tire in a parking lot (lots of rain here in VA the last couple of days) and all I can say is WOW, what a difference this tire makes. I didn't have long to play, but I was almost scraping floorboards in figure 8's and u-turns. With a little practice, I should be scraping floorboards soon. I was thinking of lowering the front end of the bike, but no longer think that will be necessary. I have read all about this smaller tire and had high expectations for the improved handling and those expectations have been met and exceeded.
