The nice man in the big brown truck just showed up again at my house. This time he had a small box with a Hi-Lo beam HID setup for my scoot. It has all of the wire harnesses and is supposed to be plug and play. The system has a relay and a fuse already in their wire harness. It is a 35 watt system so I will have a little more power for something else. I will wait to install it till I can get out on a dark road to get a before and after pic of what the light looks like shining down the road. I'm sure gettin lots O new toys on the scoot this winter.

After a lot of work taking the front end off, cleaning things, and doing a bit of "personal touches" which included installing HID's, finally got part of the scoot back together. http://gl1800riders.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73978&d=1355696731&thumb=1http://gl1800riders.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73979&d=1355696733&thumb=1http://gl1800riders.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73980&d=1355696735&thumb=1http://gl1800riders.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73981&d=1355696736&thumb=1http://gl1800riders.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=73982&d=1355696738&thumb=1

Check this out... http://bc.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-touring-1998-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-De-Luxe-W0QQAdIdZ400373052 I emailed him to confirm "fuel injection" and he says it does have it. I've replied with "where was the conversion done?" Dang, wish I could afford another scoot!

Though she has dubbed it the "baby beast", my girlfriend has joined the world of the two-wheelers on her very own Vino 125. We have been seeing each other for a few years now and I felt that I wanted to give her something special for Christmas (the one that just past). She enjoys riding passenger on my RSTD, but I knew that she is more of a driver. After we came back from a trip to Paris for 2 weeks and having seen her have the dreamy eyes at the sight of many 'cute' Vespa scooters and comments like "ohh I wish I had one! Wouldn't it be great?" I felt that I wanted to make her wish come true. So back in September 2010 I started to look around for used scooters. I was shocked to find that the price of a used Vespa was too high, and also the amount of knock off/fake Vespa's was kind of dodgy. But then I started to find that Yamaha had a retro-looking scooter called the Vino, and the used prices were much more affordable. Then I stumbled on to a deal-and-a-half for a Vino 125cc for $400. It has a bigger engine than the 50cc scooters which can barely do 45mph, so I felt that this was a much safer bike to go with. The only catch was that this scoot was pretty roughed up with high mileage, given the engine size, of 14,500 km. All of the body panels were pretty scratched up with huge gouges on the front fender and front panel. The tires were shot, torn seat, very dirt, poorly maintained, but it seemed to run. So I bought the Yamaha Vino and decided that I would transform it into a 'cute' scooter. In the next few months before Christmas I pulled the entire buggy apart, fixed up all of the panels, repainted them, reupholstered the seat with new marine grade vinyl, replaced all of the fluids, cleaned the entire engine compartment (there was an unbelievable amount of dust/sand in there), added chrome trim to the panels, cleaned the carbs and replaced the tires with new white walls,,, all under her nose. I almost got caught a few times, but I was lucky every time to keep it a secret. I managed to turn the ugly ducking into a beautiful looking machine. Well, on to Christmas Day.. I had to bring the scoot to her grandparents house and I only had one way to take it there. No! I did not drive it in the freezing cold and snow. I can actually fit it in the trunk of my Chevy hatchback. Try doing that with a Royal Star! So I pull into a school parking lot a few blocks away and unload the little thing. I put my gifts for the rest of the family in the foot area and under the seat (lots of storage under there!) and put the key in the ignition. Hit the started,, and, nothing. Stranded there with the this beautiful..paperweight. Well fortunately I got her going after 10 minutes - god bless this machine that it also has a kick starter as well! I rode the scoot a few blocks down and parked it right in front of her grandparents door. I let myself in the house and was just in time for the present opening. Well I was pretty excited and nervous about the gift, but was also very cold since riding a scoot even a few blocks in -15C weather is enough to chill anyone right down. When it came time for me to give her my gift, I gave her a fake present (empty box with a card in it). The card instructed her to grab a coat and head outside. She was very curious and confused, but when she saw her new scooter she was so excited. She was completely caught by surprise and was so excited. She kept looking at it from the window throughout the day, unfortunately it was winter and she couldn't even take it out for a ride. So fast forward a few months and she got her motorcycle license, as you must get a full motorcycle license for any vehicle over 50cc. Although she was kind of intimidated by the motorcycle she had to learn on at the course, she did enjoy it. She was the best student in the class as she just seemed to do things naturally. We had the license and insurance completed and it was time to ride. She was nervous on the roads at first but she is absolutely LOVING her little beast. We went on a few riders where I would follow on my RSTD and she looked like a natural. Now I know that there is so much talk about when you get a motorcycle you will end up spending even more on the accessories, well the same is true with the scooter world. So far she got a really nice retro helmet, a beautiful stylist Italian scooter trench coat with hidden armor (just looks like a stylist jacket), a wicker basket for the back of the scoot, new chrome turn signals, a stereo system with an ipod near the front foot area, and a soon to arrive 150cc engine upgrade kit that is 'bolt on'. I keep joking with her that it looks like a baby Venture with all this stuff on it. She is loving it, but I just recently noticed an interesting and perhaps scary incident where I went to the garage and noticed that she was sitting on my RSTD playing around with the controls... hmmm.... Anyways, I thought that I'd share a few things with you guys, maybe you might consider trading in your Ventures for the Baby Model... New White Wall Tires - $30 each Monthly Insurance - $26 (first time rider, less after 2 years) Gas Fillup - $4 Gas MPG - 85~100 Now I know it doesn't compare to the Cadillac's that we ride, but after taking this thing out a few times I can tell you that it is a blast! Before Shot - The damage and torn seat is not visible from this angle. Clever photography by the seller. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/before02.jpg Christmas Day and one happy new Yamaha owner! http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03771.jpg Front shot http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03720.jpg Side shot http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03722.jpg Other side shot http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03726.jpg Rear end shot http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03734.jpg Front end shot http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03733.jpg Handle bars http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/Baby%20Yamaha/DSC03730.jpg

With riding season rapidly approaching (although I do commute year round on the scoot) I decided to make a sojourn up to the wilds of PA and visit Skydoc. So a call was placed about three months ago to start the planning and make sure everything was ready for my arrival. So the following was done to get the scoot back to my standards: 1. Valve Cover gaskets replaced with 2nd Gen gaskets; oil is meant to be on the inside. 2. Speedo cable replaced becuase I "lost" the center portion of the cable. Actually the cable came off and the center section is somewhere on I-95 between DC and Woodbridge. 3. Anti-Dives replaced with Skydoc's block-off plates. This really cleaned up the front fork section and got rid of an annoying clicking I was having when the forks were compressed. While we were there we went ahead and replaced the fork oil with 15 wt stuff. 4. New to me mufflers installed. The ones I modified (butchered) were in rough shape before I hacked on them so I was happy to replace them with the ones Skydoc had "lying" around. Heck after a little Naval Jelly and elbow grease this things came out looking damn good. 5. Carb tuning and sync; still chasing a small idle circuit demon and an occasional backfire when slamming the throttle shut from WOT but all in all this is a huge improvement over the way it ran when Skydoc pulled it into the garage. 6. Mink oil treatment to seat; this was a Mrs Skydoc (Jean) special and it really helped the looks and softness of the seat material. Also has the added benefit of repelling dirt and water. 7. Radiator mount repair and drain repair. I can honestly say this is the best the scoot has run since I bought it back in August 2010. A special thanks to Skydoc (Earl) and Jean, they were perfect hosts and I truly felt spolied while I was there; much to the chagrin of the wife . Also, the spare parts (where all First Gen VR Mk II's go when they die) bikes came in handy for the misc connectors and parts. I really could not have picked a better place or people to help get my scoot back to near perfect operation.

Has anyone purchased a different seat that was made for a taller rider? Mine is not comfortable on long rides . I would like to be higher and able to scoot back further. dave

But if you read the ENTIRE article...you will see a little mini-gripe about gear whine...huh? If you want gear whine, you sure dont have to spend 25 thousand dollars!

for my 83 rear, plan on E3 and looking for MU90B16.(recommended from dunlop fitment guide) Dennis Kirk has a MU90HB16 listed here http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/search/search.jsp?searchString=mu90b16&store=&resultType=subCategories&x=13&y=7 Question, what is the H in MU90HB16?, For that matter would be interested to know what all the letter/number positions mean. Best I can tell from dunlop site info below is MU90=140/90 H=speed rating 130mph B=unk? 16=assume rim size? Without getting into tire type discussion, would this work on my scoot? I'm contemplating dumping my Sirius radio in favour of an mp3 player. I know nothing about these things as I've never had one so am looking for a little guidance. What do ya'll use? Does it plug into the aux port on the scoot? How do you keep it charged up? How did you mount it on your scoot? How much did it cost? Any other info you can provide? ...and I am cheap so don't want to give up my arm and leg for one. Thanks

I use one of these cargo nets on the scoot and have been asked where I found it. I couldn't give an answer as it came along for the ride on one of the bikes. Well here it is. If anyone is interested. http://www.harborfreight.com/motorcycle-cargo-net-67010.html http://www.harborfreight.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/370x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/i/m/image_1985.jpg

AHHHHH! Finally got back on my scoot today after not riding since early Aug because of all the eye issues I have been having. Since the end of June Ive had 3 eye operations on my left eye because of retina tearing and scarring, but I think things have finally turned the corner today when I got the ok from the surgeon to go back to work 1/2 days next week and to finally take my scoot for a spin. It felt so good! The temp was about 80f and bright sunshine and a great day for a ride. The bike ran pretty ruff right off the bat but i poured some more seafoam in and went for a cruise out thru town and out on the hiway to shake out the stale fuel and finally after about 30 minutes things started to run better. it was great!!!! its the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend and the weather forecast is looking great so I will get a chance to finally put some miles on! Brian .

As some of you may know, I got rid of my 97 RSTC months ago when the word "baby" came into the picture... Well, after budgeting things out for the new baby boy, (who is due to get here in December) we came to the conclusion that I can afford another scoot! So, we plan everything out and decide that I've got to keep it under $6k, in order to stay within budget on the monthly payments for a loan, which means I am right in 'The Zone' for another late 90's Tour Classic. We head to my favorite financial institution to do the paperwork, spend a few minutes talking about everything and right as everything is coming together... (Insert loud derailing scratching record sound here) Apparently I'm a victim of identity theft. I owe LOTS of money to people and places I've never heard of. I'm no dummy to the credit game, so I'm taking appropriate actions, but whoever has been doing this to my credit is good at being a ripoff, so I'll be caging it for even longer. Unfortunately, I have to wait at LEAST 1 year after the last derogatory item is removed from my Equifax report before either of my loan institutions will allow me to take out a loan. It's company policy that cannot be bent, broken, or moved. All 3 bureaus are 'working on it' and a credit advisor said I may have to contest some items several times before they get removed, and request 'proof' in writing where I opened the accounts. Anyhow, sparing the rest of the details... No scoot for me. I'm mad and sad at the same time, because I truly miss riding, and some a-hole is cruising around with a total of $13k worth of merchandise purchased in my name and never paid for it... and I can't even ride. On a side note, here's Gibson Lane Henninger in 3D, one of the few things that help keep me sane through a time like this.

I'm talking about pulling a trailer in the rain. My first gen gets very slippery riding two up in the rain. Now add a trailer behind that plus your scoot is tracking in the grease spot. My first choice is to pull off and wait. I find just traveling on wet pavement I run much slower then say others in the group. I'm not going to compromise safety above common sense and good judgement. Were leaving for Bristol Virginia Tomorrow then on to Asheville Friday. Coming back home on Sunday and guess what. It's calling for rain tomorrow and tomorrow night with heavy rain on Sunday.I told the wife we were taking the pickup and she agreed. I think my retirement scoot may be a trike.

I grew up with the enduro class of motorcycle. Those were great for riding country back roads, and trails during my early teen years. I put a lot of miles on a kz-250 when I was teen.Today kids are into the ATV thing and you never see a dual purpose bike around here. My youngest just turned 12 but he is a big boy and looks more like 14 in size. I would like to get him started into motorcycling soon to get the off road experience and skills early. So what should I look for in a scoot? If I opt for a dual purpose licensed capable scoot then Ramona could ride it around the camp and short highway trips. That Big 16th Birthday will be here soon and I noticed a few spare 1st gens in the shed out there.
