  1. Well the pinheads have gone and done it now. In their infinite wisdom they officially started my PMS for the season. We had a trace of snow over night, not even a measurable amount, (to be considered measurable it must be at least 0.1 inches) and the salt trucks were out in force. The roads have salt everywhere. Dry salt on dry asphalt is almost as slick as the ice it was intended to melt. So for me PMS has officially started until we get a couple of good heavy rains to wash the salt off the roads. Maybe I'll actually get some of the things on my todo list done this winter........... I'd rather still be riding......... . . Is it spring yet? . . Now is it? . . How much longer???? From this point forward I can take no responsibility for my actions. I am not in a correct state of mind. WHY did they do it?
  2. On my way back from the west coast, just like last year, I stopped at the salt flats again, just to play. I found the track to be in much better condition this year, hard and smooth. I really enjoyed my day here...doing fun stuff in the HHR...you know, like seeing if an iPad, standing upright on the salt, supported between a pair of shoes will stay upright when I pass by it at 100mph.... 3. Getting ready for my 3700 mile trip at the end of June so I wanted to test a few new add ons. Put a new XL F4 Custom windshield with vent, and it works great. Left Salt Lake City headed to Las Vegas(425 miles) and it was 36 degrees Monday with a touch of snow on the ground. Ran into two big rain storms on the way and barely got wet. Was able to put RainX on the shield which really helped and the vent provided a nice flow of air when I got to hotter weather in Vegas. Towed my new to me Escapade trailer, and I didn't really know it was back there even in hard crosswinds and heavy rain. I'm not usually fan of tank bags but I picked a small one up from Motorcyclegear.com that's a perfect fit for the RSV. Holds my MP3 player, sunglasses, wallet and a few food bars, even has a map pocket, but I use a GPS. Head back to Salt Lake City on Saturday, weather looks better this time. I think I'm ready now. I will be doing an Iron Butt ride on the first leg, 923 miles. This will be my first. Longest one day total before was 793 miles.
  4. to go !......well, i had bike all packed last night, cloths laid out for the morning, all i had to do was get dressed, plug in my heated gear and hit the road for daytona, wanted to be moving by 6..................get up, look out window.....SNOW....and frozen streets......which means slush and salt later.......i hate winter....
  5. They are spraying liquid salt on the roads now
  6. Wondering if any of the members here can shed some light on the following... Snoqualmie pass "normal" weather conditions during late September (around 19th) Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Flagstaff areas normal daily high / low temps during September.
  7. Got off at 3PM today and ran home to go for a ride. Hit 40 today with the sun shining. The DC is finally seeing a little bit of a warm up. I only went out for an hour but boy did it feel good. Lots of salt and sand on the roads, at least along the sides so taking it easy is required in the turns but at least I was riding. Oh yeah, did I mention I got to ride today.
  8. Prevent Swine Flu - Good Advice Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital, Bombay Hospital, Saifee Hospital, Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W). The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know. The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is. While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu): 1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications). 2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap). 3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (try to use sea salt, not idodized table salt - about 1 teaspoon in a large glass of warm water, or use Liserine). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method. 4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.* 5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption. 6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc.; especially WATER) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm. I suggest you pass this on to your entire e-list. You never know who might pay attention to it - and STAY ALIVE because of it. A 15 year-old near here died
  9. doc said have little bad blood circ,to my right leg, after a wild week end with mama,s car[installed a new air cond evap coil]leg seams to be better today, maybe all exsice did more good than bad, yesterday was realy bad, think got heat exh, took sume salt pills,1 hr latter, felt like a new [OLD] man, looks like it is a day to day thing, for our trip to nelson,[colesgrandpaw],need to leave by thursdayso it's a day to day thing now
  10. Not sure on whether this is a good deal..... I have found a 2001 Yamaha Silverado for $450. It looks great from the pics. The down side is that it has flood damage (salt water) from Hurricane Ike. Is it worth the time and effort to buy a salt water flooded scoot?
  11. Ok gave up on ford ranger, they are going out of production, and decided to small a vehical. Started researching Chev. Colorado, truck, found front end , and tire problems, and few more problems. Gave up on that. Ok, so started shopping for a Silverado!! Great, truck, and really good deals, but then I found out about all the brakeing problems, from about 2001 to 2006 or so, and maby 07 and 08. Rust on rotors, and calipers, and lots of problems with the actuation system. And the kicker, GM was stonewalling untill the Feds stepped in. I know, this is old news, but I guess I missed it. OK, a salesman at dealer e-mailed me that all these problems have been fixed, on the 2009 Model, Silverado's !!! Can I trust him, ??? Does anybody here have knowlege of Brake problems with 2009 to about 2008 GM pickup truck ???? GM was blameing it on Road Salt. Funny their trucks are the only vehicals that were effected by the salt on the roads. Hmmmm ?? I can't find any confirmation, that the 09 models have had the Brakeing systems fixed. Or maby all those postings on " edmonds.com " are bull ??
  12. WENDOVER, Utah - A 47-year-old record-setting motorcycle racer from Montana has died in a crash on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Investigators weren't sure what caused Cliff Gullett of Bozeman, Mont., to lose control of the motorcycle Wednesday during a time trial. He was racing along at just under 385 kilometres an hour at the time. The American Motorcyclist Association said on its website that Gullett was competing in the 500cc Streamliner class at the Salt Flats. Drivers go for speed records every summer on the flats, an open space just east of the Nevada state line. Gullett owned Team Bozeman Motorsports, a motorcycle and snowmobile dealership. He had set a handful of world land-speed records and wanted to eventually become the first to reach 400 mph, or almost 650 km/h, on a two-wheeled Streamliner. Curt Lance, Team Bozeman's general manager, said "Cliff always told me that if anything happened on the Salt, he wanted it to be quick and not lingering. He died doing the thing he loved to do most - racing at Bonneville."
  13. The wife and I have a loooonnnnngg run planned late June. Salt Lake City to Roanoke and back. 3 weeks riding. My idea of a great time. Now... we need guidance. Out of Utah, down through Southern Utah, through south Colorado and then south down to Hyw 40 is pretty much planned. The rest... we have no clue. We just need to be in the Roanoke area in 5 - 6 days. We're open for input. Thanks bob & Lisa
  14. I number of members have talked about purchasing a new bike but you can't ignore the effect Sales Tax has on that purchase. In Salt Lake, 6.85% is added to the final price. So, which state has the best sales tax rate on a bike (new or used)?
