Hello all Time for a rear tire and I want to pull the rear wheel off myself and take to dealer. Do i need to remove the saddlebags, exhaust, ect??? Never pulled rear wheel before. This is on a 99 RSV, Thanks!!!

I have a 2006 RSTD. I am installing the original mufflers on the bike. Do I have to remove the saddlebags to get to the back bolt?
-
Ive looked all over the site and I cant find information on adjusting the swingarm bearings on the RSV 2gen and I have misplaced my shop manual CD. Does anyone know the procedure? I'm assuming I will have to remove the headers to get to the nuts with the proper tool. I have popped the covers and I really dont know what I should turn first. I already have the mufflers, the saddlebags, and the rear wheel off the bike for a tire replacement. There is a noticeable amount of sideplay in the swingarm...im guessing its about 1/8 inch movement at the ends of the swingarm. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know of, or have seen anywhere a larger version of the hard saddlebags for the RSTD ? What I want (ha ha ha) is to have my '06 RSMTD bags be taller, or higher. The width, length, etc. is fine, but IMHO these bags are too small. I am used to much larger saddlebags, and a tour trunk. Since I have a bike that did not come with a tour trunk, and...I have removed the rear seat and passenger backrest to make my bike a solo ride...I have a need for much larger saddlebags. As for the idea from some of you that I could install a rear rack, and put a tour trunk on that...I already have a rear fender rack, in place of where the rear seat was...and bolted to that is a newer aluminum rack, and bolted to that is a Saddleman Leather trunk that is used to house my Aux. Fuel Tank (another 5 gallons). So there is no room for an additional trunk in that area. If I cannot find a suitable aftermarket saddlebag that fits nicely in place of where my original OEM hard bags are (and I do have the yamaha chrome rails that go around the saddlbags), then...my choice would be to either have a plastics manufacturer alter my current bags to be about 4 inches taller...simply the slice and paste method, which would still allow me to utilize all the OEM mounting system, the OEM lids and locking systems. All I would be doing is extending the height of the current bags, to raise the top of the lids up to the level of the rear fender. That would give me approximately 42.395 % more storage space (I did say it was approximate). Or...failing that...I could find a good leather saddlebag maker to make me a complete set of new saddlebags, hard formed...that would be of the perfect size, and that would be close to looks to match the bike. If they are hard formed enough, they would be as good as the OEM bags, only larger. So...all you longtime searchers, have you heard of or seen any larger saddlebags that will fit the RSTD ? If not...and if I have my current ones remade my a plastics (ABS) manufacturer into what I have described above (with pictures to follow), would anyone else be interested in having this done too? Thanks,

Does anyone have any experience with this product? https://www.denniskirk.com/slime/mini-smart-spare-kit.p282558.prd/282558.sku I like the compact pump. My saddlebags fill up fast when we are gone for more than a few days.

I'm about to have my ignition switch replaced again (44K miles). The first time was around half that mileage. The first time Yamaha also paid for redoing the locks on the saddlebags, trunk & helmet locks. This time they'll fix the ignition, but, said they won't do the other part. This really annoys me. They wanted to know how this has happened twice to me, never to anyone else. They think I must carry a wad of keys. I don't. Only the bike key, not even on a key ring. I don't want to carry 2 keys &, yes, I know I can have 1 key cut on one side for the ignition & the other side for the saddlebags, etc. That is what I will most likely do, as it's the cheapest way to solve the problem for me. Regardless, I still think Yamaha should fix the problem at their expense under warranty. I guess I'm looking for advice. Thanks in advance for any insight. I only feel a little better after venting this.

I just installed the subject trailer hitch and it installed in just one hour. It was a perfect fit and so easy to install. I did not even have to remove the saddlebags to perform the removal of the support arm and then installing the trailer hitch. It is recommended that one remove the saddlebags to prevent scratching the bags accidently when removing and installing the bolts. Being very careful, it really easy to install without removing the saddlebag which really cuts down on the time for installing of the trailer hitch. The service was great with no shipping or taxes. $150.00 covered it all. A special thanks to MarkVentures for the service and an excellent part. It fit like a glove, little to no effort and installed in "one hour". Would highly recommend this hitch for anyone riding a Venture. DanC

Hey folks I just thought that I would put this out there. I just purchased a set of the leather saddlebags that came standard on the 96 RSTC. They also fit other years and models. These bags usually run in the $500 range and this dealership in Ohio has a bunch of them and are selling them "Buy It Now" on Ebay for $184.99 plus $19.30 shipping. That's a total of $204.29 shipped to your door from an authorized dealer. I have never seen the price on these so low. Just put this in the Ebay search engine..."Yamaha Tour Classic Saddlebags Plain 96-01 Royal Star" and it should pull up.

The leather saddlebags that came with my recently purchased Tour Classic could use a good cleaning and then some type of protectent. Does anyone have any recommendation for what products to use for cleaning; and then what to use for protecting the leather? Thanks!

Well .......when I shut the bike down for the season I removed all the plastic and took it into my little basement shop with the intentions of repairing minor cracks and fabbing up some new tabs that were broken. Got that done. Now with all the winter weather we have been having I've been staring at pieces of my bike for a few weeks now. I hate that! So with some spare hours and some serious self pep talks I took on a new project. Lining the trunk and saddlebags with trunk liner. So today I finished the lower trunk body. Pretty happy with the results so far. Now onto the trunk lid and the major challenge......the saddlebags. Like they couldn't add a few more curves to these things! Geesh. Got to go find a Sunday paper. Need to make more patterns. Mike

Under those saddlebags.. Where did you get them and about how much are they? they look like THE rear lights to have.

Friend of mine picked up some MC part while clearing a foreclosed property, then turned and gave them to me!! They're from a Mk1!! Entire rear subframe, w. fender, sadlebags and trunk, roll bars; stock exhausts; left side engine cover; left side inner/outer front fairing, the "knee fairings" and the radio/accesorry covers for both sides. Also fuel tank, carb set and valve covers plus some small schtuff I haven't quite gone through. From what's there and scuff marks on the right saddlebags, I'm thinking the bike may have been wrecked. Wouldn't have minded the rest:whistling:, but I'm not complaining. Now what am I going to do with all that stuff :scratchchin:and how am I going to open those bags:cool17:

Hi from France ! Can you tell me if the rear frame is the same on the first and second generation because I want to put the 2nd gen saddlebags on my old 1200 venture ! Thanks for all ! barry-only-n7

Anybody with a RSTD have the Protac drivers backrest? I picked one up used but just can't see how it connects to rear fender. Just won't line up. Does it go behind the chromepiece for the saddlebags? Pics would be helpful. God Bless. Mike

I just bought my RSTD last wednesday and I really enjoy it. Had an 1100 Vstar for 9 years had to upgrade. Anyway was wondering if anyone knows if they make a chrome cover for the black plastic section around the lock on the saddlebags. Also if any of you know someone that has an 1100 Vstar Custom, I removed all my accessories before trading in and am looking to sale. It was a '99 model.

My wife has a 2004 Vulcan Classic 1500. She would like a set of Leatherlyke saddlebags. The Model # is T-422 I believe. Anyway, I have been serching the net to find the best price on a set. Anyone have an idea of where I could get a set? I hate to pay full price for the bags since that takes money aay from me to spend on my Venture. LOL Thanks for any help.

I got to wondering.. I've seen references here, to the Tour Deluxe, the Tour Classic, The Tour Classic II and one or two others I believe. What were/are the differences between them? My '98 says Tour Deluxe on the title, but Tour Classic on the side of the leather saddlebags. Not a big deal...just curious more than anything!! Thanks autopilot

I am in the process of ordering parts to repair my 2005 R S T D. I am looking at switching saddlebags. I want to replace the O E M hard bags with the leather covered Royal Star tour classic saddlebags part # STR-4NL73-02-00 These fit the 97-2001 Royal Stars and current Road Stars. I can make some modifications if necessary, but am not as handy as some of you. I thought they might make my bike look a little different. Anyone having experience with these bags please jump in. Thanks in advance.
