I live in central Fl and we would be starting our trip from Charlotte NC. Are there some good roads or routes someone might give me a heads up on. This is so far out right now I dont even know if we will have enough days to ride up and get back home before the next weeks work. But I'm hopin we can swing it.

Hi Guys, I've been trying to put some custom routes into my nuvi 765T. I can do it by scrolling through the GPS itself and reordering the points manually, but that takes forever on the small screen. Especially with my big fingers! So I tried using Mapquest to put my custom routes into it. Selecting and/or editing my route on Mapquest works great. But when I "Send" the custom route to my GPS, it comes out as the route the GPS selects for me and NOT the route I laid out using Mapquest. I'm using Firefox and even added the "Garmin Communicator Plugin" to my browser, but no luck. Anybody here know a simple or easier way to get my custom routes into my GPS? Software, website, etc. Thanks, Bill

Since many of us are winter bound and looking forward to riding again, I found an article to wet your riding appetite. If you can't ride then at least we can plan for the next ride. It turns out I have been on 2 of the article's chosen routes (#7 and #2). I definitely want to check out some of the other routes too like the Million Dollar Road. Personally, I think 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff through Oak Creek Canyon is on my top 5 best routes but not listed here. Also Mingus Mountain through Jerome AZ was another one for me. What is on your top five list as the best routes you have motorcycled on over the years? http://motorcycles.about.com/od/placestoride/ss/The-15-Best-Motorcycle-Roads-In-America.htm

I sent my bike to Florida this year with a friend who was taking his truck and trailer down with him to his winter home. It will be down there until April when he will bring it back, unless I ride it back. His home is in the Titusville area. We plan on flying down a couple of times through the winter, the first one being in early December for around 10 days. So I am hoping there are some Florida members or others who could offer some suggestions for routes and neat things to see (other than the normal Orlando stuff). We plan on doing the Florida Keys for sure and wonder whether following the Atlantic shoreline down would be worth it or if we should simply follow the Florida turnpike or I-95. We are also considering heading North towards Jacksonville and Savanah Ga and then over to Macon, Ga and back down. I always try to avoid interstates, so if anyone has any ideas for routes to and from these areas I would love to hear from them. Thanks JR

Trying to find Freebirds thread on restricted viewing for non-members. Some of us have expressed interest in meeting up with others for rides to MD's and the International Rally. Would probably be a good idea to make these arrangements in a non public viewing area as I'm not really comfortable broadcasting that I'm going to be away from the homestead especially for a week or more... on all our threads we have our state and town and bike we ride so... it wouldn't be that hard to connect the dots... for an unscrupleous individual... So my question is... is there an thread area, members can view to see another members routes (if they want to list) and willingness to ride in groups? The most logical place would be the calander/ event area but not sure if that would be a lot of work for someone??? I believe Venterous had started a thread with the info that would be needed for these meetups...

Just returned from seven days of riding the Ozarks, Missouri and Oklahoma. Some of the best riding I have ever experienced (not scenery but roads, the scenery ain't bad). Twists, turns, up hills down hills, switchbacks. Ft Smith, Harrison, Jasper, Mt Judea, Pig Trail, Eureka Springs, Branson, Yellville, Tahlequah, Sallisaw. 2,500 miles of fun. Had no idea such great riding existed in that area. I have 1,300 pictures and over 5GB of videos. It will take me some time to sort, edit and post them. The folks were "Texas friendly" and the prices for food and lodging were very reasonable. Now that I know a little bit more about the area I'm going to ride it again. We had mapped out all the routes on our GPS prior to the trip but changed plans once there taking the routes suggested by the local folks. We used these the most often: Let's Ride Motorcycle Riding Guide of the Ozarks PDF Map files Next time I will stay in the Jasper area.

I'm beginning to plan our next big ride for next summer. We're planning to make our way to Eugene OR and take 5 or 6 days to ride along the coast to Monterey CA. Does anyone have any suggested routes or must see places that we shouldn't miss. We'll probably travel in July. Thanks, Dennis

Couple of questions about the new unit: 1) With NavWeather, it shows you the current radar image. Does it indicate direction of storm movement and speed as well? 2) The Garmin website says it is NOT geocaching friendly. Just wondering if it can also be used on battery power for things like mountain biking routes, hiking routes, etc. Thanks for the info...JR

Hi guys, sometime early next month, my buddy and I are heading out on yet another long road trip and we thought of trying something new. Entering the USA at Houlton Maine, we would be proceeding south on the I95. We're thinking of hitting Mount Washington in NH and then down to what we heard is one heck of a nice ride, the "Skyline", the "Blue Ridge Parkway" and then the famous Deels Gap (dragon's tail) If you have detailed info as to where these routes start, how to get there etc via town names to plug into the GPS, what to expect, especially if you yourself have had personal experience on these routes, please do drop me a line. As mentioned, we would be coming from the north heading south.. Thanks in advance.. Cheers

I have Garmin Zumo 660 and am using Garmin Roadtrip on a Mac. I am having trouble uploading routes to the device. Someone sent me a GPX file and I was able to get that onto the device. I tried making some routes on my own but have been unable to get them to appear onto the device. If anyone is using this gps/computer combo, any advice would be much appreciated. I plan on having a buddy send me another gpx to see if it will load. BTW I have an 8gb micro sd card in it and tried putting the gpx on the card and into the internal memory. No joy either way.

Hi folks. Am looking at buying a garmin GPS unit but am not sure if I am comparing apples to oranges! The GPS Garmin I have now is a 265WT and I made a trip by saying 'Go to' (note that I am in Swift Current, Sask. Canada) to Jasper, Alberta, Canada. I then added North Battleford, Sask. Canada as a 'Via' route. However, by doing this the GPS wants to take me into North Battleford town (not necessary) and will not let me choose the route through Edmonton, Alberta. I have created this trip with my choses routes through Edmonton and a little jog in the highway between Edmonton and Jasper. I made it at mapquest.com and here it is. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Swift+Current&1s=SK&1y=CA&1l=50.292759&1g=-107.800552&1v=CITY&2c=Jasper&2s=AB&2y=CA&2l=52.873638&2g=-118.082649&2v=CITY#b/maps/m:map:8:52.818052:-108.391253::::::1:1::::/l:::Swift+Current:SK::CA:50.292759:-107.800552:city::1:::/l::Provincial+Route+216+W;+Anthony+Henday+Dr+NW:::::53.456428:-113.344398:latlng::2:::/l::Provincial+Route+22:::::53.722831:-115.130195:latlng::2:::/l:::Jasper:AB::CA:52.873638:-118.082649:city::1:::/io:1:::::f:en_US:M::/bl:/e Kinda long address isn't it. Could someone who has a Garmin GPS that can download routes do this on their machine and make sure that all the particular streets (in Edmonton) etc do come through? If it does, then I think I want a GPS that lets me download routes so I can plan my motorcycle trips all winter and then download them with all the correct turns etc rather than letting the GPS decide which highway etc to use. Thanks guys and it sure will help me decide what GPS unit to buy.

OK everyone the International Rally 2009 is getting even closer now. And some maybe wondering what to expect as for Rides & Route's. Some of the Route's have been posted in the "Rides & Rallies" section for the International Rally. After you see some of these Route's you will see why motorcycle Rider's keep coming back year after year. And one of the reasons why AR. was picked for the International Rally this time around. ColesGrandpa will have more info. & maps for every one to see and check out at the Rally. And for the Knowledge of this area I would have to say Colesgrandpa is one of the best around. Everyone ride safe and we the Committee of the International Rally 2009 look forward to seeing each & everyone of you. God Bless
