As my mirror on the right side fell of the bike in my hand today while I was trying to adjust it I figured what the hack I'll atempt to fix it instead of buying a new one. Turned out pretty good. First I removed the glass from the black retainer buy using an exacto knife to remove the front edge as i found out the glass is not glued in. Second I removed the black retainer by taking out 3 small phillips screws. Third I drilled out the bracket still on the bike to let a 1/4 inch by 1 1'2 screw pass through. Then installed the base of the mirror with the 1/4 in screw using two 1/4 inch washer on the inside of mirror. Pic will show 6 but had to take back apart becouse the black retainer wouldn't go back in place with all 6 washers.Next was the black base screwed back in place followed by the glass. As I removed the retaining ring with the exacto knife I used 5 minute epoxy to hold the mirror in place. I'll post back tommorow as to how well this holds up as we have a ride planned for a couple of hours by the Petty Museum. Hope this works as well as I think it will as it was easy enough for a non mechanic like me to do. Just take your time with the removal of the glass so as not to break it. David

Ok what I kneed is the size of the retainer screw that holds in the draincock plug. I had a leak that turned out to be a hose at the overflow bottle. In the process I noticed that the draincock was turned wrong at the dealors during the last repair work so I went to losen the screw so I could turn it to the prpoer positionand thats when I noticed no screw. So I need to know the thread size and length. Any help would be apreciated. . I intend on ordering the upgrade kit from skydoc but would like to get something so I can ride till then. Be as Earl is temperarily down. Tahnks in advance. DAvid

I tore down the front shocks on my 87 Standard to replace the leaking fork seals. I had a heck of a time trying to get the wire retainer ring back in place. (just beneath the dust seal)...It seemed that I couldn't get either the top bushing or the seal to seat down far enough to leave room for the retainer wire. I pulled it apart again ( a few times ) to figure why they wouldn't seat far enough, until I got smart and compared the new seal to the old one, and found that the Pyramid brand seal was about 1/16" taller than the old one, which was just enough to keep the retainer wire from going in. I got another set from Bikebandit, which matched the originals perfectly, and the darn thing went right together. I got the Pyramid (green package) from e-bay. They looked good, but the little bit of added height was a killer. Hope this helps someone avoid the cornfusion I went through.
